The station itself is rather basic with just a ticket office but there are good shelters on both platforms. Unfortunately the footbridge is rather high up and exposed to the elements! The station is the junction for the Ealing Broadway and West Ruislip branches of the Central Line. During peak hours some additional city-bound trains start from the centre track and you can sit on board while you wait for departure. In the evenings there's an 'Evening Standard' newspaper vendor outside the station.

Richmond station serves as a terminus for zone 4 district line services and also as a stop for many national rail services out of Waterloo and into Surrey. You can get to Hammersmith on the district line in around 15 minutes, or into Waterloo in around 16 mins on the main line fast service, of which there are around 2 per hour. This makes Richmond very commutable. The final piece of the puzzle serving North London is the Silverlink service, which, if you can brave the crack addicts can get you all the way to Hampsted in around 40 mins. It feels like the slowest train in the world right now, although TfL are taking over management so perhaps it will improve. There are 7 platforms, 1+2 for main line services, 3+4 for Silverlink, and 5-7 for district line. I would advise skipping the ticket office and machines in the entrance hall and going to the ones on platform level which are much less busy. There is a front entrance onto Richmond High Street, and a handy back entrance onto Church Road which is much more pleasant, but floods everytime it rains. It was recently voted South West Trains 'Station of the Year 2007' in mysterious circumstances. If you're hungry, I would advise popping into Source next door and getting a take out, which you can scoff on the way into London...

Transport for London have just renamed the sliverlink service 'London Overground' and there is new trains on the way in 2008 or 2009. I personally find it to be slow but quite good for getting to Camden, King's Cross etc without going into Zone 1. There is a new Marks and Spencer where the Door shop used to be by the ticket barriers in the entrance hall. I still think Phil is right about going to Source though instead though!

Transiting from the Underground to the train platform is extremely easy. My only complaint is that there are very few seats for waiting. There is an AMT Coffee (they're everywhere!) and a few other shops for grabbing a quick sandwich to take on the trains.

Only opened in 1899, it is one of London's youngest mainline terminal stations. Beatles fans will recognize it as the opening location of their first film, A Hard Day's Night. Though much has changed since 1964, any true Beatles fan will enjoy imagining the Beatles running for a train with a mob of screaming birds in their wake. Walking the historic platforms, only recently expanded, I was overwhelmed with the everyday beauty and usefulness of a national transit system.

The waiting room stink of piss all the time , people gob in there, leave their rubbish. The only good thing is the heater in there, but stinks worse when it comes on. Also the massive 2 ft gap between the train and platform is very dangerous.

Watford High street serves the London Overground trains. The station is clean, and has two tickets…read morebooths if you want to be served by staff, and two tickets machines if you want to do-it-yourself! It's also,very handy they have a cash machine, which does not charge. Their is lots of travel information leaflets plus the Metro Newspaper stand. Their is a cafe right next to the station. On the platform the have a waiting room. Also in my experience I find the trains to be punctual. You have trains going towards North West London to Euston and also Watford Junction. Their is a cafe next door to the station, plus the station is situated in the perfect spot being less than a five minute walk to the Watford High street, with the various eateries around and Intu Watford shopping centre.

Balham Station has both an underground stop and a National Rail station…read more For the underground, the only option from this station is the Northern line. The main problem with this line is that it can be quite packed during the morning rush hour. It gets to Balham fairly packed and leaves completely packed. I really don't know how people in Clapham actually get to work. For the National Rail station, you can get the train to other major train stations in London. Depending on the train you catch, you can get to Clapham Junction in one stop. A downside of this station, as mentioned in some other reviews. Is that the lines to refill your Oyster card can be quite long. You definitely want to avoid doing this during the morning rush hour. On the plus side, there are places to get a coffee, both in the entrance and on the platform of the train station part. Also, the station is well situated in the area with plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs nearby. You can likely pick up whatever you need without making a big detour on your way from the station to your home.

The staff are generally helpful but the station building itself is nothing of any speical…read moresignificance. I have not braved the toilets yet but know they have reduced hours due to some graffitti. The overbridge is also a little treachorous, with some of the stairs a little uneven. That said, it is fairly well lit when coming home and night, and as there tend to be a fair crowd of people getting of the train late into the evening I have never felt unsafe even when the station is unmanned.

Close to South Ealing station - you can see it from the Northfields platform. Last station on Piccadilly line in Zone 3 on the Heathrow branch. Northfields is also a depot so beware trains can abruptly stop there. Good if you live in the area, not so good if on the way to Heathrow. There is a small shop selling newspapers, magazines, confectionery and drinks and a flower stand that has a good range of flowers, bouquets at reasonable prices. A cash machine and toilets are also available. Station was renovated a couple of years ago and has improved train displays indicating trains on the way (not necessarily how long they will be - but then again London Underground minutes are not known to be too accurate).
