I feel like a little kid every time I visit this sweet shop…read more It really does take me back down memory lane. Everything is presented beautifully and the choices are amazing. You can buy sweets or chocolates that you haven't seen for a while or stock up on all your favourites. I love the clear packaging your sweets are wrapped in to take home. They have a few sugar free items too so not everything is bad for your teeth. They have goody bags for kids and hampers as gifts. Located in the heart of the Chester city centre, a must for tourists or the locals.

Its also a great place to go to get those last minute gifts you forget about. they have sweetie gift sets made up, and some hampers, all at reasonable prices. these are usually seasonable so for example, at halloween, you can find little sets with halloween sweets and the same at christmas. It may be quite a small store, but the vast array of different kinds of sweets more than makes up for the cramped surroundings. the staff are really friendly and know everything there is to know about their sweets. which is ideal if you are buying fro someone with allergies.

Prices are reasonable, the frontage is pretty and inside there's an eloquent, old-English vibe, thanks to intricately carved wooden décor and large sweet jars on each wall, both of which circle the shop's central counter. On my visit, the staff greeted me with smiles and I was instantly overwhelmed by the lashings of lush confectionary on display throughout the store. Everything inside looked absolutely delicious and the strawberry sherbet I purchased definitely fulfilled my expectations. This friendly, high street sweet shop is well-stocked, gorgeously atmospheric and definitely worth stopping by next time you visit Boldmere High Street. I can safely say that I'll be visiting again myself very, very soon.

Jens is even decked out like sweet shops were, bright, colourful and mouth watering. Every time I'm in there, I feel like I'm in the opening scene of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory in the sweet shop where the bloke sings Candy Man while dishing out sweets to the kids. Jens is just like that. The real beauty of the shop though is the large selection of sweets on the shelves. Traditional and original sweets, party bags, kiddies favourites there are over 500 different types of retro confectionery Jen tells me. She caters for kiddies parties and weddings. So, if like me you fancy a trip down memory lane when we had proper sweets, get yourself over to Boldmere and pop in to see Jen, she always has a smile on her face, well who wouldn't working there.

I was so excited when I finally found this little shop after wandering around the time zone that is Afflecks Palace. This place sells all the favs from dip daps, nerds and wham bars to 10 flavours of bon bons, midget gems, pineapple cubes, lager tops and so on and on and on and on..... all priced at 75p per 100g! They should change the saying from "cheap as chips" to "chip as the sweets in Retro Sweets in Afflecks Palace". A big surprise was the selection of Wonka sweets available. I have only ever seen a few varieties in Selfridges but this was just simply amazing! I can't even remember the names of them there were so many! We came away with a bag full of sweets for only £4 and were well happy! :) Shall be my new fav sugar haven.

I hopped into this little chocolate shop because the placard was so enticing, and when I walked in the counter lady had her back turned and said "hello" without turning around. I browsed for a few minutes, decided what I wanted from the case, but she still hadn't turned around. So I browsed some more, then stood in front of the case, right behind her, for an uncomfortable few minutes, with her still not turning, shuffled to make sure she knew I was there... then sadly turned and walked out. It was about 15:20 on a Friday, so it didn't seem like any kind of closing time to me... I couldn't figure out what was up, but... that's probably something that needs to be addressed. Shesh. I love giving my money away for chocolate, but I'm not going to beg you for it.
