Thoroughbred Construction are dishonest bullies. I was contacted by Chad Dowdy to build them what he said was a gift to their company's owner, Michael Roth. Despite it being a reported gift, it was paid for and commissioned by Thoroughbred Construction. I provided no timeline estimate for the completion of the items, and none was requested. He placed a deposit through a company credit card. This was right in the middle of the busiest time of year for me, compounded by moving across the country from the east coast to California. I regrettably missed three messages on social media from Chad asking for an update on the project over the course of 11 days. At that point he flew off the chain, emailed me threatening that his boss (Michael Roth) was growing impatient waiting for his gift and intended to have their lawyer file suit, presumably for the $340 deposit they had placed. He also written a negative review for me online in which he accused me of being a fraud, and actually contacted my wife, who has no role in the business and no idea who he was. Chad played it as if it was all the owner that was being impatient, and not him, trying to justify his own intentionally hurtful, dishonest, libelous actions. After seeing his email I provided him an update on his project which was close to completion, and offered him a refund. He did not want a refund, despite accusing me of being a fraud and scammer in his online review that he had already made. He said if I just sent him a picture of the items in their current state, perhaps that would be enough to keep his boss at bay and keep him from contacting his lawyer. I obviously had no actual concern of a lawsuit and knew this was just a bully trying to throw his weight around to get what he wanted. He refused my offer for a refund, and wanted the items completed and delivered instead. I sent him photos, which he said looked "awesome", completed the project entirely about a week later. Thoroughbred Construction paid the remaining balance, the items were shipped the following day and delivered successfully by UPS. At that point I contacted Chad about his libelous review that he had left, and as of this date, 3 months later, despite another request, have not received a response. In kind, I am sharing my experience with Thoroughbred Construction. Chad is a bully, and his boss, Michael Roth is as well, unless Chad misrepresented the entire scenario in order to make it seem like his boss was the bad guy, and he was just doing his bosses dirty work. Thats entirely plausible, but who knows. Chad appears to be integral to the day to day operations of Thoroughbred Construction, and thus this review reflects the company as a whole and not just their Vice President Chad. read more

DO NOT go with this company unless you record every verbal conversation you have with them. This company promised us a warranty on the chimney flashing & metal work done on a section of our metal roof but they lied. They just said that so we would hire them. Also, everyone that's gotten work done by this company should go over their bill. They overcharged us & this mistake went unnoticed by several employees (they said they would mail me a check, hopefully they do). I went with this company because of the Facebook reviews & I agree, Chad & Neal are very nice when we first met, however that has changed. We're still having a leak & Chad says that there's no warranty because we didn't purchase a whole roof but they will send a crew out with a $28 tube of concrete to fill in the cracked/missing mortar for free. This company says the re-flashing & metal work they did to stop the leak was done properly & the leak is actually coming from the chimney cap area where there's mortar issues. When Chad & Neal first came out, I explained to them the mortar issues & they said the mortar & chimney are fine & that it's definitely 100% the flashing. So we let Thoroughbred Construction Group re-flash the chimney & replace some metal panels because they said that would stop the leak. It keeps leaking after the re-flashing so they sent a crew out last week & they admitted that we didn't need the re-flashing, we just needed a new custom metal chimney cap because the leak is coming in from the bad mortar. We paid Thoroughbred Construction Group $1,411.36 for a service (re-flashing) we didn't need & it didn't stop the leak. Now Chad says we can have the concrete in a tube for free & they can make us a custom metal chimney cap for $200.00. I rather pay the $228 than $1,411.36 for a service/product that didn't work. Thoroughbred Construction isn't offering to make it right or to correct their errors besides offering a free tube of concrete worth at most $28. If you're thinking about hiring Thoroughbred Construction Group, please make sure that you record every verbal conversation because even when they say you have warranty, you might not. I recently hired Thoroughbred to install "Flintlastic" SBS modified bitumen roofing material suitable for use in accordance with CertainTeed specifications for low-slope roof system application. In the beginning, Neal was very professional and did a very in depth assessment. He was able to pinpoint the exact location of our leak. Neal took a series of photos and provided me with an excellent written report with an estimate. It was apparent from Neal's report that another roofer took numerous shortcuts that resulted in the leak! The work crew from Thoroughbred seemed to be knowledgeable when they came to do the repair within three weeks. I am currently awaiting the written warranty information which I asked for from the beginning as I already have a 5-Star lifetime warranty through CertainTeed for the rest of the roof (shingles). Once I receive the written warranty, I will change or re-do my review to 5-Stars. Please find below the back story of our problem roof. We had a leak in our disabled daughter's bedroom. The roof above is a low-slope roof that was recently repaired incorrectly (using a rubber membrane) by another company.
