Tai Chi KC has one teacher who is adept in the Yang 37-posture "short form" as taught by Professor…read moreCheng Man-Ch'ing to Ben Lo. The form is taught in three sections, with the first section taught four times a year and the middle and last sections taught twice a year. Review sessions are held approximately every other Saturday morning. There is, at this time, not a regular push hands group at the studio, but the instructor is very knowledgeable in the practice of push hands, as well as the form. Beginning first-section form classes are usually filled to capacity, but middle section and final section classes are smaller. Learning the Tai Chi form requires memorization of the postures and the ability to connect them in a flow, so it is common for students to take the first section class sessions multiple times before enrolling in the middle section and last section classes. Tai Chi is best approached as a life-long practice which offers the opportunity for continued improvement, not only in the form but also in mental focus and decision-making in other areas of life. The instruction in this studio includes information on martial arts applications for the postures, but the focus is on relaxing and performing the postures without force or aggression. For advanced practitioners, don't hesitate to contact the teacher regarding push hands and sword form. He is very approachable and dedicated to the continuation of the Tai Chi in this lineage.

Ben Lo, in turn, was a student of Cheng Man-Ch'ing, the creator of the 37-movement style of Tai Chi. Andy's dept of knowledge of Tai Chi is amazing. He is able to share this knowledge in a relatable way to all levels of students. He consistently relates the principles of Tai Chi to practical application. I would highly recommend studying with Andy. Whether you are new to the practice of Tai Chi or a student of many years, Andy will impart new insights and help you refine your practice.

After taking classes with him for 4 months, He told me that he hated teaching the style which he had me sign up for. I also have a daughter which asked me if she could take lessons together. We both signed up for 2 classes a week. His assistant which was assigned to teach me frequently did not show up for classes. After the this month of this, when it was time to pay for the next month of classes, I kept my daughter's classes t twice a week, but lowered mine to once a week, since I had been paying for classes but not getting them d/t instructor not showing up. When I lowered my class time he told me don't bother with him anymore and it would be a waste of his time. It was a waste of my time taking off from work and paying for classes, and driving 30 minutes to his school, only to find out that my class would cancel. Advertising and getting paid for classes you don't offer can constitute as fraud, but I never brought that up. Also, there were other people taking classes at the same time, but the main instructor was teaching them since they had been with him for over a few years. This was very disappointing. The most disappointing part in all of this was that my daughter worked her butt off, only to be turned away since the instructor wanted to throw a fit. This does not show integrity nor a good moral compass. He also has sudden mood swings-some days he is okay to be around and others he will belittle those around him. Until he gets temper under control and show some integrity, we will not go back. Prospecting students- You have been warned!
