The premise was some sort of literary critic dinner party where some guy went back in time to steal Edgar Allen Poe's writings and sell it to current time readers. There is a critic who then gets murdered and several different authors are being criticized on their writings. The critic ends up being "murdered" by one of the other​ characters and it was our job to try and figure out who dunnit. In a word, it was Lame. It took waaaay too long to get through the story line and overacted as well. The food for dinner was meh and dessert was in my opinion Store bought. We actual had a better time talking to the couple that sat next to us on the train than trying to be entertained by the performers.

The operation first began at the tram circle inside Hersheypark. After a successful run, the operation moved its base outside Hershey's Chocolate World two years later where it still runs to this day. Hershey Trolley Works operates a variety of different tour experiences throughout the year, including seasonal tours. Visitors on the tour will learn about the life of Hershey founder Milton S. Hershey, see historic sites around the town of Hershey, and be entertained by a group of musical theater actors who take on the roles of the trolley conductors. My family and I recently visited Hershey while we were visiting our cousins in Pennsylvania. My wife and I had both separately visited Hershey when we were children, but this was the first visit for our own children. We thought that a ride on the trolley tour sounded like a good way to start the day and see all of the various Hershey Chocolate-related sites around town. Tickets can be purchased right inside Hershey's Chocolate World. The employee behind the counter informed me that the Historical Trolley Tour is about 70 minutes, but that the Summer Family Trolley Tour lasts 45 minutes and is more family-oriented. We decided to opt for the latter and we were glad that we did. Some of the sites we saw from the confines of the trolley bus included the original historic Hershey Factory (converted to corporate offices in 2015), Milton Hershey's birthplace, Highpoint Mansion (historic home of Milton and Catherine Hershey), Hersheypark, and the iconic Hershey Kiss-shaped streetlights on Chocolate Avenue. Our conductors/actors were wonderful and entertaining! Throughout the tour, attendees were given samples of Hershey Kisses, fun size Hershey Bars, and fun size Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Our sons both loved the tour and never complained about being bored. For any families looking to visit Hershey, we recommend starting your visit with a Hershey Trolley Works tour!

One ticket that gets you into all three parks is $84.95 if you buy it by walking up to the gate. there are discounts for seniors/juniors/military/veterans, , or if you buy your tickets in advance online. You also get to come in for free the last two hours before closing the day before your ticket, , to give you a preview. Also, In town, is a Hershey Museum, that goes into the history of Milton Hershey in more detail. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to see it. At the center of it all, is Hershey's chocolate world. (separate review.) that has a lot of different activities, as well as lots of shopping. All except for one of the activities costs, so I decided to just do the trolley tour. The price of the trolley tour is reasonable. It's the same price for all ages, but they do offer military/veteran discounts. The trolley tour was lots of fun. It takes you throughout the town of Hershey, they tell you about the story of Milton Hershey, and you get to see different spots that are part of the Milton Hershey Legacy. It takes you past the Hershey mansion, which he built in 1906, for only roughly $50,000, not including landscaping or furnishings. Imagine that in today's money... It's a pretty little town, and there is just so much to see. The narration can get a little "hokey", but I'm not complaining, as it's "hokey" in a fun way. Plus, there's free chocolate! Mr. Hershey was a philanthropist, who believed in giving back to his community. He founded the Milton Hershey school, which continues to this day. It's for children 4 through 15, from low income families, and it is all free of charge. Every once in a while you drive past a place so many times that it almost becomes part of the…read morescenery. That was the Turkey Hill Experience for me. I'd driven past it countless times over the last few years but either didn't have enough time to stop or couldn't convince anyone else to stop with me. During my Lancaster Adventure Day, though, all of that changed. I purchased a Single Scoop ticket online ahead of time for $16.75 and reserved the very first time slot of the day at 10am. I figured a late-summer Thursday morning would be the sweet spot, and it turned out to be a great decision. It was busy enough that the place felt lively but not so crowded that I had to wait for every exhibit. Parking was plentiful, and I somehow managed to snag a spot right in front of the GIANT cow out front. Honestly, my day was already off to a fantastic start! The only hiccup of the visit came during check-in. Even though I'd already purchased my ticket online, I still had to wait in the same line as everyone buying gift shop items, purchasing admission and asking questions. Since there were only a two employees working both the registers and admissions, the line moved a little slower than I expected. If I could change one thing, it would be creating a separate express check-in line for folks who already have tickets. Once I finally made it inside, though, everything became easy peasy! The exhibits are completely self-guided, so you can wander at your own pace learning how Turkey Hill makes its ice cream and iced tea while playing with interactive displays along the way. One of my favorite parts was creating my own virtual ice cream flavor, complete with custom packaging. I also wanted to film my own Turkey Hill commercial, but those stations stayed busy the entire time I was there, so that'll have to wait until another visit. Naturally, I made a beeline for the tea sampling station. As someone who appreciates sugar-free options, I was thrilled to find both Zero Sugar Sweet Tea and Zero Sugar Fruit Punch available to sample. Both were fantastic! Then it was time for the part we'd all been waiting for...unlimited ice cream samples. One thing I really appreciated is that they weren't tiny little "blink and it's gone" samples. You picked two flavors, and they served actual scoops in a bowl. For an attraction centered around ice cream, that felt exactly right. My only tiny complaint? Wooden popsicle sticks instead of spoons. They definitely got the job done, but they made eating melting ice cream a little more awkward than it needed to be. Still...free and unlimited ice cream? I'm not about to complain too loudly! I spent about an hour wandering through the exhibits, playing with the interactive displays and enjoying the air conditioning on a hot August morning before making one final stop in the gift shop. Prices there were about what you'd expect for a tourist attraction, but there were plenty of fun souvenirs if you're looking to bring a little Turkey Hill home with you. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend visiting the Turkey Hill Experience at least once. I don't know that it's somewhere I'd return over and over again, but it was a fun, interactive way to spend an hour learning something new, eating entirely acceptable quantities of free ice cream and escaping the August heat. That sounds like a pretty successful adventure day to me!

Prospect Hill Cemetery in York, Pennsylvania is a historic cemetery that was documented by the Historic American Landscapes Survey. Founded in 1849, is the final resting place for soldiers from every American war. When my adventure buddy casually asked, "Hey...do you want to ride The Pride of the Susquehanna on…read moreSunday?" my first response, surprisingly, wasn't "YES!" like it usually is. It was..."WAIT...THAT THING STILL FLOATS?!" I distinctly remember riding The Pride of the Susquehanna probably 30 years ago on a school field trip, but somewhere along the way I guess I just assumed it had quietly retired into the history books. Nope. She's still cruising the Susquehanna! And I was WAY more excited about that than a 40-something-year-old probably should have been! My adventure buddy grabbed our tickets ahead of time through the website for $20 per adult and we picked the 2:00 p.m. sightseeing cruise. The Pride offers a variety of cruises throughout the season, from narrated sightseeing trips to specialty cruises and private charters, making it a pretty unique ways to experience the Susquehanna River. We arrived a few minutes before departure, checked in quickly, and walked aboard. Instant nostalgia! It was exactly how I remembered it! Downstairs featured the same warm, dark wood interior with a bar, while upstairs offered the open-air deck where you can sit back, relax and enjoy some beautiful views as the only authentic stern-driven paddlewheel riverboat operating on the Susquehanna makes its way upriver before turning around for the return trip. Naturally, we made a quick stop at the bar before heading upstairs. Two beers and a bottle of water came to around $12, and with drinks in hand we settled in to enjoy the sunshine. Was this the most thrilling boat excursion you'll ever take? No. Absolutely not. You're not racing through rapids or spotting whales. You're simply enjoying a peaceful 45-minute cruise along one of Central Pennsylvania's most recognizable rivers. And honestly...that's kind of the point. The breeze coming off the water, the sunshine, the familiar skyline of Harrisburg and the gentle rhythm of the paddlewheel made for a wonderfully relaxing Sunday afternoon. Sometimes slowing down for 45 minutes is exactly what you need. Parking on City Island is plentiful and free, and the dock is conveniently located near the baseball stadium, exactly where I remembered it from all those years ago! One bonus tip...if you're looking to stretch your afternoon into an even bigger adventure, the Harrisburg Beach Club is just a short walk down City Island after your cruise. It makes the perfect follow-up stop for food, drinks, live music and soaking up a little more sunshine. The Pride of the Susquehanna may not be the flashiest attraction around, but it's one of those classic Central PA experiences that somehow manages to stay charming decade after decade. I'm really glad it's still floating. And I'm even happier that I finally climbed back aboard!

We had the privilege of joining Bill and Bonnie on one of their horse-drawn carriage rides around…read morethe farm. Their hospitality leading up to the ride was fantastic, the weather was a bit 'iffy' so we ended up pushing back to later in the afternoon. It was still a bit cold and overcast when we arrived and we ended up being the only couple to join them. Blankets were in the carriage waiting for us and we were greeted as soon as we pulled up, the ride was enjoyable and informative... we learned about the farm and a bit about the battle, both Bill and Bonnie were super friendly and it was a pleasure to meet them! After the ride was over we had the opportunity to go back to the barn and meet all the horses. We learned more about each of them and got to feed them carrots, absolutely worth the price and a ride we would definitely do again, hopefully under better weather next time!

The evening event, Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz, featuring the unforgettable performance by the Steve Rudolph Quartet, was rescheduled from Friday to Sunday due to Canadian wildfire smoke affecting air quality in the Harrisburg area. The Steve Rudolph Quartet (Steve Rudolph, piano; Hassan Shakur, bass; Larry Marshall, drums; and multi-instrumentalist Thom Strohman, sax, piccolo, flute, and clarinet) did a tremendous job featuring Jazz compositions by Benny Golson, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, and Charlie Parker. All that was needed was a blanket, chairs, and picnic treats on this perfect smokeless, not hot or humid evening. There is always plenty of parking, and restrooms are located in the Centennial Barn.
