Staffed by community volunteers, the pride and passion is on display and you can't help but get drawn in by the volunteers who help find treasures in the bounty of offerings at Pebble Creek. I purchased some clothing items and an Omaha Royals vintage lunch box. I may be back to purchase the Easy Bake Oven that I spotted in the toy room. Everything is tastefully displayed, easy to navigate and overflowing with finds from designer purses to bicycles, nursery furniture and antique school desks. Furniture is housed at their downtown storage that is open by appointment--a photo album can be viewed to select from the offerings. All proceeds from Pebble Creek goes back into the community. Hidden in plain sight, we drove by the store twice before we saw the signage. The building is an unassuming former implement building on highway 275 as you go through Scribner, You will find it, but you may drive by a time or two like we did. If you are a college kid or are looking to furnish your first apartment--this PCV would be a great place to start.

Instead of charging me, she simply smiled and let me have it. It was such a small gesture, but it really stuck with me. Beyond that, the store has such a unique vibe. It's big on the inside with various items: women's/men's clothing, a small selection of children's clothing, ceramics (plates, mugs), some smaller furniture items. There was a nice, small purple couch for $600; there's a very small amount of items that seem to be curated and in good condition. There's a large quantity and variety of items, however the selection is poor. A lot of the clothing items had stains or marks. It reeked of mold, and smells horrible. The clothing items on the racks are packed very close together so it can be tough to sift through. Cashier with a beard and glasses was extremely rude! We walked in and there was no welcome. I would go so far as to say we received an annoyed look that we came in. However, when there was a busload of white women that came in and were loudly patronizing the store the whole time, they received a warm welcome with a smile. I entered this store with family (aunt and 2 cousins) as a visitor from out of state. When we approached the cashier, my aunt paid for her items: 1 shirt, 1 pair of pants, 3 bracelets, and a mug which totaled around $33. My aunt asked the cashier about the prices of certain individual items after she paid, because the bracelets and mug didn't have price tags on them when we brought them to the register. She wasn't given a receipt nor was she asked if she wanted one when she checked out. The cashier responded in an annoyed tone, "Oh my gosh, I'll just print you a receipt." The cashier should've asked if she wanted a receipt after she paid! We decided to just leave after the interaction, but my aunt and cousin went back in the store to take some photos of the store. My aunt: "You should've given me a receipt instead of saying 'oh my gosh'. It was rude." Cashier: "I was just trying to give you a receipt because you couldn't count it up." My aunt: "You were being rude and should've given me a receipt from the beginning." After that, my aunt walked away and the cashier proceeds to tell the customers in line that he was trying to "help" my aunt in their original interaction, which is incorrect. He was unfriendly and rude towards our whole party, no customer service skills for customers of color. Don't shop here if you're a person of color. It's not worth the stained clothing merchandise or withstanding the stench of mold in this basement shop.

Today I came in with my aunt, who had a service dog in training for veterans. The dog was well-behaved and remained under her control the entire time. He tugged on the leash a couple of times, but each time my aunt quickly corrected it and put him into a sit-stay, keeping him calm and under control. Nothing he did was disruptive or noticeable to others. When we went to check out, the worker was extremely rude and told me that the dog should not be brought back until he was better trained. This was frustrating for several reasons. First, service dogs in training in South Dakota have the same public access rights as fully trained service dogs. Second, the dog did not cause any problems. Third, it was not even my dog, and I was not handling him in the store, so any concerns should have been addressed directly to my aunt, who was the handler, rather than speaking to me about it. This dog is regularly trained by a professional and attends weekly training with someone who works with police dogs, so he is very well-behaved and actively in training to serve retired veterans. I have seen negative reviews about the Civic before but had never experienced anything but kindness until today, which is why this interaction stood out. Because of this experience, I am now hesitant to return to the Civic and cannot recommend it to individuals who have or rely on a service animal. People with service animals deserve to feel welcomed, respected, and treated fairly, and this interaction did not reflect that standard. I hope management takes this seriously and ensures staff are properly educated on service dog rights and respectful communication moving forward
