It's a good market for a small town. Found everything we were looking for quickly. Veggy department is good. All the staples there Pricing is fairly reasonable for peak of the summer tourism season. Parking is available. Good to find a supermarket of this quality in Parksville read more

Now the reason for my 5 stars. We bought some shrimp at 2 for one sale day which is a common thing at Thriftys. The shrimp we bought was from India we found out when we got home. No big deal.... but when we opened the package it smelled like ammonia. I went back to the store to get some better shrimp mentioning the shrimp we got and to expect others might give them the same message. Not complaining. So... the kind person at the fish counter set me up with some local shrimp with a smile on her face and said she would not charge me anything. The shrimp were more money and absolutely delicious in our soup. Can't say enough about the friendly service here. The prices are very reasonable and make sure you park out back there is lots of room. So happy to shop there you will too. PS we are guests in Parksville. read more

Just moved from the mainland to Parksville, lots of parking, store is pleasant to shop in.I was looking for Q-tips and asked an employee and was told that they didnt have any???? Supposely they are going through some transistion and did not carry them? I thought that was very odd, a big chain store that doesnt carry Q-tips, other than the inflated prices on most items it is a good store to shop in. read more

A nice Thrifties location for a small town. I haven't been to the "brick and mortar" store for awhile (but when I have been there, always found everything I needed and recall getting through the tills quick), but I have purchased a number of flower arrangements/gifts over the phone lately for family the area. I am always SO impressed with the service. A real person answers the phone right away, and I'm transferred to the right department. Where someone else answers the phone right away and is always incredibly polite and helpful. The delivered product is always excellent, on time, and great value for the money. No problems, ever, at all. So it keeps me going back. Highly recommended. read more

As soon as you walk in the smell of the seafood overpowers the senses and it's not Good. If they put any more ice in the seafood display case it will leave no room for the seafood. Obviously a daily clean up system is not being implemented. Major U.S. food retailers stopped using ice years ago. The bottom levels of ice in display cases are too warm and harbour too much bacteria. They now display fish in s.steel Drip trays that are washed every day. On positive note there is a good variety of fish And looks appetizing. I still cringe when I see cooked product displayed alongside the raw seafood. read more

I would like to thank all the staff at Thrifty Foods in Parksville for helping make Our Christmas special! The produce, dairy and baked goods were as always fresh and flavourful! The meat department went above and beyond to make sure we had just the right fresh turkey to suite our needs and were so cheerful and pleasant even in the face of having fewer turkeys come in than they had ordered. As ours was a little smaller than ordered we added a spiral ham from the wonderful selection available to the dinner and oh what a nice combination that was! So very good that I think we will do the same again next year. Not to be forgotten are all the cashiers and front end staff who handled all the lineups with a smile! read more

My wife picked up packaged sushi today. When we tried it we found it was stale and didn't taste right. Upon checking the best before date we noticed it should have been removed by yesterday at the latest. Very poor quality control. Don't they check this stuff and realize the dangers of food poisoning especially with spoiled fish. Disgraceful. Hoping we don't get e-coli. Will return to the store tomorrow to return the un-eaten sushi and packaging to the manager read more

Especially love the vegetable varieties, like the purple cauliflower, and many other fruits and vegetables I seldomly see. Very wonderful they sell whole lobsters and giant crabs here. read more
