Love this grocery store it's my absolute favourite I'm there all the time the food, produce and service are always amazing.

Thrifty's had a sale on this week for $1 oysters. This location is under construction and upon entry, there's a big sign advising so and complimentary ear plugs for customers. Oysters are fresh and only one died on our way home. Ate them raw and also grilled - delicious, especially grilled with sour dough baguette! Look forward to seeing the new store location and seeing the renovations. read more

My rating is with respect to the White Rock location. I refuse to go there eventhough I live next door. Perhaps their attitude towards their customers has improved but don't want to risk it. Instead I drive to Save-On-Foods or Safeway just to get the better customer service and better pricing. read more

It's interesting when you read the Yelp reviews about the Thrifty's in White Rock. Some reviews OK but equally some not so good. It's also interesting when you start to see a pattern with complaints about management and customer service. I personally find their customer service for the most part lack luster ...not all the time but frequently and all you need is a few bad experiences to leave a bad taste in your mouth. Such was the case this morning on August 27th , 2025. I went to buy some Lotto 649 and when I said I didn't want the receipt, the brazen and impudent attitude from Tammy (who was handling the cash register) instructed me that if I won, it would not be valid unless I kept the receipt. I told her she was incorrect and she challenged me with an attitude saying that it was the rule of BCLC. I went home and told my husband. He told me that he experienced the very same while trying to purchase some lotto tickets from an male employee a week ago. He went on to say it was almost combative aggressiveness on their part. At this point I decided to phone BCLC 1-866-815-0222 directly and spoke with Serena. After explaining what happened, Serena was quick to point out that Thrifty's was not only incorrect but shouldn't have been rude while relaying incorrect information. She will file a report internally. After that phone call I went back to Thrifty's and spoke with the manager (Tim). He was a stone faced as they come. He didn't care that the employee was arrogant to me. Tim goes on to say several times, " all this over a receipt?". He didn't care for one minute that it had nothing to do with the receipt but rather that I had to experience the rudeness of his employee. I'm a 70 year old women and don't want behaviour such as this in my life when I go grocery shopping. I live in the building right next to Thrifty's and will not go there again. Other than I find their prices are inflated, this sort of behaviour could also explain why I see their store frequently empty when I go there. I was advised by a number of people in the building that they have had similar experiences and that I should report it to the company's corporate customer service and if it's still ignored, I should file a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Mainland British Columbia or a provincial consumer affairs department. read more

My daughter bought me a b'day cake from here. I always thought they did their own baking and therefore would be reasonable ingredients. I was aghast at the list of toxic and poisonous ingredients! Absolutely horrific. The cake is going in the garbage and lets hope a rat doesn't get at and kill themselves. Shame on them for selling this garbage! read more

WHITE ROCK STORE Just one negative instance witnessed but worth mentioning. My husband and I noticed the manager being quite rude to a disabled man in a wheelchair who came in to purchase a couple of items. The manager was intolerant of his service dog and refused him service. in this day and age this type of intolerance is really unacceptable. Life is challenging enough for ones with disabilities. We truly felt he could have been much kinder and allowed him to make his purchase despite the man having forgotten the dogs service vest. read more

Fantastic customer service when I stopped by to buy a piece of dessert to take home. I bought an Oreo cheesecake to take home after dinner. Staff were friendly from from the person behind the bakery counter to the cashier. I wandered around the store beforehand and I was impressed at their meat display. They had a great selection on food and grocery items. The only thing they need is a nicer seating area for people to dine and eat in store. read more

I don't really understand the logic behind the branding / naming of this supermarket. Apparently, it's supposed to sell higher end products, like Whole Foods organic produce, yet the name is called Thrifty? Either way, this is a great alternative to Save on foods and the higher price point is pretty unreasonable. read more

We've shopped here for 9 years. Excellent butcher, deli & bakery. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Smaller than many local grocery options but for us it has all we need. Overall we love it. read more

Wow this place has really gone down hill....... The bathroom is disgusting, it doesn't look like it has been cleaned in weeks. I brought my daughter in there and was afraid she would catch something!!! Theres no hot water from the sinks, and no feminine sanitary disposal in either of them, soap dispenser broken.... I asked a staff member if anyone takes care of them and he said that a company "sweeps the floors" every night but that is it!!! Public bathrooms should be professionally maintained throughout the day!! horrifying especially with karona virus going around.......... will NOT be returning..... read more

Consistently unfriendly checkout staff, over many times, many years. Because I've got into the habit of tapping everywhere, Thrifty's is one of the worst places to tap my credit card. I now only buy the minimum at Thrifty. Not seen staff attitude problems at other stores, except Safeway, but I have seen people stuck in an un ion job, they do not like. read more

Nicer, cozier atmosphere than a Safeway, and being local helps, think they're from Victoria. Lots of selection, especially with their produce on the right side. After that, I checked out their ice cream on the other side, not too shabby, a tad more expensive. Bakery good size too. Sushi to go boxes nicely displayed. Clean washrooms on the left. Paper bags? What is this, Super Value from the 80's? Hey they get green points to save mother earth so I'm down with that and they also bag your groceries to boot!!! One of the best locations for food shopping by far. The entire store is always clean and spotless, the produce section makes me buy fruits and veggies all the time, very organized bulk bins where you place the bag over the end and pull the handle down so no more kids and old people sticking their fingers in the bins. I really enjoy the bakery and deli area as they make actual pizzas cooked in a cool looking oven. The Thrifty card is super cool how you rack up points so you can rack in savings. Lots of organics for the hippies and gluten free items too. Staff is always helpful and also have one thing other store lack, a sense of pride. Shop here for super fresh produce and some neat baked goods like the scones. read more

Our choice of grocer in the area. I think the produce is fresh and I like their meat and fish section. It definitely feels more like your neighbourhood grocery store than Wal-Mart. They really encourage reusable bags which I think is fantastic. They don't have plastic bags but they do have paper bags. Another perk of shopping here is their car shopping cart. If you got a kid, you know how hard it is to shop for grocery with little ones. My little guy likes the car shopping cart. He pops in and buckles himself in and it makes it a smoother experience for both me and him. If you shop here often, sign up for their Thrifty card. It gives you points and discount off your grocery bill if you have enough points. read more

Clean, well stocked grocery store that is neat and tidy. Staff are always friendly and helpful. They always have specials in the front section by customer service for you to look at. As well they stand behind their products have a problem with a purchase they will return it with additional money- never seen that before. There floral department isn't as expansive as it is to be which is disappointing. Great seafood selection with fresh crab and lobsters!! read more

A few years ago I switched to shopping almost exclusively at Thrifty's several times a week because of the variety of brands they carried. I didn't have to go to several stores to get what I was looking for anymore. I'm a foodie, love cooking and look for quality ingredients. I'm so disappointed every time I go now, more brands off the shelf. They don't even carry san marzano tomatoes anymore, their canned tomato selection is at least half of what it was. If Sobey's model is the brands Safeway carries, that's sad. There's a reason I don't shop at Safeway! I'm not the only one upset about this. read more

If I was comparing them to 7/11 I would give them a five but as a "major" grocery store they just keep getting worse and worse in my opinion. Of late they have been reducing the selection a great deal. I try to use them for my non essential shopping but it is becoming impossible. And if I do find what I need the prices on these items is way out of line with the competition. I find it becoming harder and harder to make the effort and come away disappointed. read more

The strip loin steaks used to be the best you could buy anywhere. In the last 3-4 months they have been horribly tough. We usually buy multiple packets when they go on sale so I don't know if they are using cheaper steaks for the sales. Stay away. read more

This is the best grocery store of all the chains. The selection for everything is great. They have clearly marked gluten free foods throughout the store and have a handout to make your shopping easier for that. The staff is all so friendly. I have not had one bad experience and am always stopping in. read more

I used to come here when the guy I dated a long long time ago used to live in the area. It is new-ish...kind of but it has been around for a while now. Here is the issue, They're called Thifty Foods, however, found some of the price comparisons, especially on baking supplies and ingredients to be just as expensive as Safeway. I am all about the paper bag nostalgia, however, depending on how they were packed and how much produce they would rip. read more

They have a nice selection of gluten free foods clearly marked with pink GF labels on the shelves. The day I was there they had one brand of GF pasta on sale, 2 bags for $4 which is a great deal. I found the layout a little confusing, but then I haven't shopped at a Thriftys much as I have just moved here. Nice friendly staff too :) read more

My husband and I love Thrifty Foods and shop often, although when we bought some sushi the other day, we were VERY disappointed. We thought we were buying "fresh made right in the store" because you have a set up that looks like it is made there, when we got home and read the label, it's made in CALIFORNIA - that is not fresh!!! SO disappointed, the rice was dry and what the label said was 'shrimp' was actually some kind of 'whiting' fish. Do you really think you can get away with this. There is a sushi restaurant two doors down from you - contract a local supplier. I'm sure it will be FRESH and not full of preservatives that need to keep it from going moldy for the trip from California. DISGUSTING. We will not shop at your store any longer. read more

I used to work across the street from this place for a year and a half. Its where I bought my meal everyday. Their deli foods are simply delicious. I loved when the salad bar was fully stocked (which is not always the case, but I suppose it depends on what they have). I had a pizza from here once with artichoke hearts, and it was delicious. There are also some really good deals for food items some times. It is also really useful to get a store card. Once you have enough points, you can take $5, $10 etc, off of your purchase. The con would be wait times in line. Even the express lane goes unbearably slow at times. It should be common knowledge that the fastest cashier should go in the express lane. A hint is to ask the customer service desk to just pay there if you only have a couple items. read more
