Needless to say, I was not thrilled by this theatre going experience. Here's the problem... no one is as good as Michael Jackson at being Michael Jackson. Tell his story, explain his rise to fame, act out his childhood... but for crying out loud, don't try to imitate him! (Or God forbid, act out his music videos.) While I did love the two hour montage paying homage to his greatest hits, and while I was impressed by the astounding dancing skills of those on stage, I just left disappointed that no one will ever live up to the King of Pop. The dancers couldn't sing like he could, the singers couldn't dance like could... so overall it was a compilation of people trying to imitate one man whose freakish talent is what made him so compelling and untouchable. ... For TWO hours. Painful. In fact, it left me wanting the real deal so much that I had to go home and re-watch all of MJ's music videos on YouTube to satisfy. I then watched This Is It for the umpteenth time to really seal the deal. Once I was done with my own ritualistic tribute, I found myself wondering why I spent £60 to effectively watch two hours of X-factor style MJ karaoke, no matter how well choreographed and vocally challenging it was. The show is super boring despite the performers tried hard. The whole show was terrible. Not sure why the girl sang most of the songs. Karaoke session for 3 hrs. I was so excited to see the moves of dearly departed MJ. All the billboards ads capture iconic MJ dance sequences and classic outfits. If you are expecting this and to hear his all time hits in the familiarity of his voice, THEN DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS SHOW. Mind as well buy his album and listen to it on your couch. First, the costumes were horrible. They didn't represent the era of his songs. Nothing was reminiscent. They had the first hour of the show with cheap/lame/tacky costumes, and one scene mixed with 70's and late 80's fashion. This show was not cohesive at all. Stage and artistic direction POOR. Second, They had total of 5 Michael Jackson impersonators to sing and dance in leu of MJ. It was so confusing because some were dressed and looked the part of MJ, the others was so random...they just sang like MJ, then 1 was a female. She sang ok for karaoke, but I didn't think she added any value to capturing a show that's dedicated to MJ. There was only 1 "MJ" that was AWESOME. He moved, breathed, and mannerisms all Michael Jackson. He was clearly THE SHOW, but he only came out like 5 times. It was SO BIZARRE. I wished he was dancing the whole time. Who cares about Michael Jackson singer impersonators, I want to see the MOVES AND THE DANCE! They could of just had background signers and have his original voice play, and have this ONE Michael Jackson character dance all night. He was amazing. But he was hardly on stage! So, if you want to see this show, that means you want to see 1 girl sing the whole time basically, which keep in mind, she doesn't dance. She's sluggish and only knows how to move her shoulders from side to side and wear 7 inch heels. Impractical and disappointment. This show was like watching an amateur talent show. For a West End London theater show, this show did not represent at all. The stage lighting, costumes, set props- all as if a high school musical. As a longtime MJ fan, I've seen this twice. Why? Its the music and the dancers. True, the King is gone, and no one will ever live up to it, but the way this show has been made and is performed, lets you live the music, the moves and the hits once again. You're never going to see the real thing again, but this is a great second-choice for anyone who loved the music and wants to see it loud and large. So disappointed! I thought I was going to see the various stages of Michael Jackson sing and dance-maybe a recreation of his videos. It was more like karaoke and cruise-like quality entertainment. I loved when the impersonator sang and danced but he only performed a few songs here and there. Go in with low expectations and you'll have fun. We sat near the front and got full view of the amazing moves by the MJ impersonator. There were about 4 singers rotating through the music, and the lady singer was definitely the best. At some points during the show, we were on our feet clapping along. There is no plot and the dance moves are obviously a bit cheesy but it was fun watching and hearing all the songs come to life. read more

I took my other half here for his birthday, he's a super fan of MJ, having collected everything of his from tshirts, to posters to even keeping his last concert ticket. However, I own one of his dangerous vinyls, so you could say I'm also a fan :) I managed to get the best seats in the house, and what a view we had of the stage. From the songs to the interaction with the audience, I'd definitely say hands up to these guys who make it happen and authentic too. Took me down to memory lane from my childhood days. Well the king of pop is dead, so this is probably as close to a live show as you are going to find. The dancers were good and the singers better. They rotated 5 different people to cover the MJ songs. It is amazing to think that MJ used to do it all by himself. They played all of the hits, and the performers looked like they were having the best time. It is contageous. There is not story or plot. It is a 2.5 hour tribute to the king of pop by playing all of his hits. For sure these performers cannot compare to MJ. I dont think that was the point. The performers do a good job covering his songs and the live performance adds an energy that music videos just do not. Good show, if you can get half price tickets...better show. Warning, the seats are really tight. If you are in Orch, you will have more room, otherwise prepare to squeeze in. read more

I have to admit it was very entertaining, I had fun and I realised that I actually know some of his songs(thought that were by someone else) . I went to a matinee performance of the show on a Sunday and by the end of the first half, I felt slightly underwhelmed, but by the end of the show, they had redeemed themselves. While I am a Michael Jackson fan and watching this made me realise just how many awesome hits he had, I feel that they missed some amazing hits for lesser known ones - maybe to appeal to the die-hard MJ fans, who knows? The dancers weren't in sync, the choreography was slightly lacklustre at times and there was low energy from a lot of the performers. Considering Michael Jackson was pegged as the greatest entertainer of all time, some of the performers needed to up their game - and most of them did in the second half, but it would've been good to see that throughout. On a positive note, the man they cast as the King of pop himself was phenomenal and had the moves down to a tee. One or two others of the main cast members and the kid who played the young MJ also gave it 110% which definitely picked up the show and made me enjoy it, but overall I think the show needs a bit more pazzazz and magic. read more

I was rather disappointed, especially after the first part. It was a tribute concert not a musical, but still I expected more... There was something missing. They sort of made up for it in the second part with the choreography for Dirty Diana, Billy Jean, Dangerous and Bad... All in all, nothing out of the ordinary. But, then again, hard core Michael Jackson fans seemed to be enjoying themselves like crazy. It just wasn't my cup of tea, I guess. read more

The show itself is not so great, not many well-known songs and no narrative, the dancers frequently looked confused and were not in sync and many of the singers lacked energy and I experienced boredom during much of the show however the 5/5 stars is due to Sophia MacKay - an amazing performer oh my goodness, would have paid double or triple for just a show with her. Since basically everyone sang the Michael Jackson songs, they really didn't need the person who played Michael Jackson. It really shouldn't be called Thriller...It should be called "A Compilation of Michael Jackson's Body of Work". A great show and the staff at the show are truly remarkable and friendly. We watched the first half of the show and unfortunately I had to leave due to being on the larger size. When leaving we were stopped by a member of staff and asked why. When told they found me and my wife new seats. I'm so glad we were able to see the 2nd half of the show. I can't recommend this theatre more the staff really get customer service everyone we dealt with were really friendly and helpful. read more

So, this show was clearly developed for a diehard Jackson fan. I myself went to see it as a fan of musicals and musical theatre, so I was more than disappointed to discover than there is absolutely no story to go along with these songs (unlike mamma Mia which is what I initially thought it resembled). The performers were ok, the dancers certainly gave it there all but the singers to me felt unprofessional and more like something you'd see at a tribute act (aside from the person who played Jackson himself). People often seem to talk about how "well staged" this musical is but unfortunately I can't agree, though yes, it's staged well, I don't think it's enough to make the performance stand out from anything else currently running in the west end All in all, the show was decent, nothing more nothing less, a Jackson fan will love it, and the theatre atmosphere was excellent. The first half of this performance could be completely done without. And there were some performers that were cringe-worthy. But these two faults were almost 100% redeemed by the female lead singer and the dancing crew. This is probably the best you can do to relive one of the best performances in pop history. read more

I was totally underwhelmed UNTIL the live band was evident (this only happened once 6 tunes or so had been done and that included some of Jackson 5's early bests including I Want You Back) before which one could think the dancers were performing to recorded music, by way of the backdrop sliding open revealing the most incredible LIVE BAND. But alas, the back drop closed again and we were left with the dancers alone. This to me was tantamount to having one of my senses cut off. The performance only became enjoyable again when the backdrop slid open when all at once we were presented with the full performance again. I'd give it 5 stars were the directors to make this one massive adjustment. KEEP THE MUSICIANS VISIBLE all the time but this would mean having to ditch the disco light backdrop for a lot of the show which I would have been happier with if just to reveal the presence of the amazing live band . Shame the lyric doesn't have an orchestra pit. Great singers, great dancers, outfits were wonderful, great stage show, but superb musicians. Bring them all out from behind the screen!! read more

I went around the time MJ died and thought it would be good to go and see what sort of show it was. This is more a less a tribute show, there isn't much structure to it and some of the arranged pieces I would've done better. The power of the Jacksons shines through though and the music is what keeps you entertained. read more

Save your money; you've been forewarned! I'm so mad I wasted my one night designated for Theater, while visiting London, on this crap. The only redeeming feature of this high-school quality production is the outstanding singer Alex Buchanan. It is quite an embarrassment to see the terrible wardrobe, the outdated choreography, the silly special-effects coupled with atrocious make-up (Black men doing blackface? and yet they were ashy gray!!! Did they ever test to show out with their friends... do they have any friends that cared enough to tell them how terrible their make-up looks? Where was the director in all of this?) Everyone around me was looking at each other with this baffled, embarrassed look in their eyes; we all knew we wanted to leave but at the same time we were all upset at the fact that we had paid so much money to see this terrible production... arrrrgh! Why do they have to resort to a woman singing most of Michael Jackson songs? Why was one of the primary performers a ghostly looking, halloween pantomime, with a plastic wig that covered most of his ashy face? I live in Los Angeles, and I see way better looking Michael Jackson look-alike's posing for a dollar on Hollywood Boulevard!!! read more
