I do believe I have been changed for the better! I love the story of Wicked and what a magical opportunity to get to see it in London. The theater is right next to a major tube station making it really easy to get to. I purchased my tickets well in advance and sat in Circle G34 and 35. In my opinion, these are some of the best seats in the house because they are in the first row of the section but they are a two-seater. If you're coming as a couple, it feels like you have complete privacy with some of the best views. One thing to note is that the actors in the show all speak and sing with British accents. It wasn't something I thought about but for some shows, they speak in American accents, but not here. Someone had advised me that that bothered them, but it didn't make a difference to us! 800th review! I cannot explain how much I adore this musical. No joke, it may or may not be the best musical I have ever seen and I have watched Broadway shows, musicals that are on National Tour, the Muny (in St. Louis), etc. and this is the best one I've seen. I've always loved the songs from Wicked and never got the chance to see it until now and I have definitely been missing out. Bought tickets pretty close to the stage for around $50 at a half priced ticket booth in the West End. I looked online and they were all $100+ for the seats we got so I thought it was a pretty good deal. When we came, they initially sat us near the far right aisle but we soon moved closer to the center when we saw how many empty seats there were. Honestly the theater was more than half empty which is just so sad but good, I guess, for the guests so they can get a better seat. The musical itself was amazing. The performers were such great singers and actors, the ensemble were amazing dancers, and the set was absolutely mind-blowing. I think one of the most impressive parts was when the dragon on top of our heads on the stage began to move, I genuinely thought that was only for decoration sake. I won't spoil too much about the show, but I will say that the experience is absolutely amazing. The British accent actually works really well for this musical and I honestly cannot wait to come back to see it again. I'm sorry but what was the point of this play even being made? This plot was so bad! The songs were terrible! I read the reviews for Wicked and thought, well it's not my usual cup of tea but I'll give it a try since I'm in London and the reviews were good. Huge mistake!! I couldn't wait for this play to end! Glenda the good witch was so annoying and there were so many dull moments that I nearly fell asleep. I hated her screechy voice and the songs were boring. The script was very boring as well, and nothing really stood out to me as amazing. The costumes and dancing were nice, but I've seen better productions in NY by a long shot. Again what was the point of this play? It was so cheesy and predictable. The Wizard of Oz was played by cowardly man who stands behind a big mask? I'm sorry, I just was not feeling this. A Wicked Time! With clear sky in the forecast Wednesday evening I attended the Apollo Victoria Theatre for the 7:30p showing of Wicked. Show Experience Set to the theme of the Wizard of Oz Wicked referenced my favorite characters by shedding light on the events that led up to and proceeded the original storyline. The set was easy on the eyes with fantastic lighting and skill shown by the cast that exceeded my expectations. Food and Drink It's pretty cool that you can order both refreshments and snacks from the comfort of your chair by downloading the Ordertorium app on your smartphone at anytime with no service fee. Even during the 20 minute intermission the floor ushers come by to take and deliver orders. With a full bar availble on both the ground level and first level of the theatre there's no excuse to be without a drink. Ordered the Green Elixar cocktail and found it to be a great companion during the performance. Overall The show was a wonderful experience for myself and my guest. I would reccomend to anyone looking for an immersive story and entertaining night. Pro Tip: Dress Circle seats C21 and C22 have an excellent view, but are a little snug with the leg room. read more

Great production, great performance, great story, great singing, great sound, great music, gr..... Yes I can go on. These things are quite subjective, so I think people who wants to see wicked will see it even if the review is bad, and people who won't want to see it would not be moved even if I give a stellar review. So I won't say too much about the musical. Reality is that it is an award winning musical for a reason. I have seen my fair share of both musical and operas and I think this is certainly up there. So rather than talking about the musical, here's a couple of tips instead: - it's a musical that takes up big stage presence, so upstairs first row might actually be better in view as you can see what's happening behind as well. Front row downstairs might actually struggle a bit as the range and angle is quite steep. - if you want to buy drinks, I suggest download their app to purchase. Your order will be delivered to you either at intermission or before the halves. Same price, but it means you can wait for the order with the comfort of your seat rather than standing at the queue. The app info is easily obtained at the theatre (I felt like it's inappropriate to call out other apps here). - get there a little earlier, Victoria station area is just generally a little busy, and quite big read more

My first visit to London had to include a show in West End! I've seen Wicked four times stateside but it's been awhile, so I didn't bat an eye when my fiancé suggested this be the show we saw. I'm so happy he did. Compared to Broadway prices these days, the West End is significantly more affordable. We were planning on buying discounted tickets from the local TKTS booth, but ended up ordering them online since the price was basically the same. I was a little confused by the seating system, but we chose the third cheapest option and ended up with good seats in the circle, which is the American equivalent of second tier. The "stalls" is like our orchestra. The Apollo Victoria Theatre is beautiful! It's not overwhelming in size so even the highest seats should provide a decent view. Wicked is also such a big show, you'll still get a great experience from high up. It's not near all the other theaters in Leicester Square, but has a tube stop super close. They have snacks, drinks, traditional ice cream at intermission, and gifts. I saw a brochure touting how you can even get drinks delivered to your seat which I thought was interesting. I wish there was some sort of program that they handed out with cast bios, outside of the one you have to buy, but I didn't see one. Another small gripe was the fact there was only one bathroom in the circle, which formed a very long line during intermission. So rush there when the lights go up if needed! All in all, definitely one of the highlights of our trip. I knew that I was going to love it but can confidently say that my fiancé did as well. The whole cast was outstanding and the story is timeless. Fun fact: Since Oz is a made up place, I wasn't sure if the actors would have British accents or default to American ones since that's what the original cast used. I would give it 5 stars but the venue only had one ladies room that I could find and the line was Suuuuuper long during intermission causing me to miss the first little bit of the second half :( Needless to say that's the ONLY thing I could say that isn't all the way thumbs up-ish! I was supposed to board a flight from Heathrow to SFO this past Tuesday, but missed the luggage drop off by minutes (waiting in the self drop-off line). Thankfully, Virgin Atlantic rebooked me for the following day, but the experience left me a little shaken up and I planned on just sulking in my hotel room, lol. After thinking a little more about the situation, I realized that I would probably not be in London again for at least another year so I had to make the most of the extra evening. Various friends have recommended the "Wicked" musical to me over the years, but I never jumped at the opportunity to see it when it was in San Francisco. As luck would have it, there were plenty of tickets for that same evening (7:30 PM show) at the Apollo in Victoria. If you happen to already have printed tickets, you can enter off of Vauxhall Bridge Road or Wilton Road; however, if you only have the email confirmation, you'll need to collect your tickets at the box office through the Wilton Road entrance only. Make sure to come with time to spare because you'll not only want to make sure you aren't late and end up watching from the sidelines until staff deem it's appropriate for you to enter the theater, but to also grab a drink or souvenir. I've said this multiple times, but nothing beats live music and live performances. Nikki Bentley and Helen Woolf were amazing as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, and "Defying Gravity" is one of my new favorite songs. It was a truly spectacular production with lots of funny moments and dazzling sets and props. By the end of the show, I was actually thankful I missed my flight and had the opportunity to see this! I had a great seat in the second section of the floor/stall area, but even the seats further back would have had great views of the stage. read more

This show is fantastic! I genuinely laughed, cried and smiled all the way through. The untold story of the witches from The Wizard of Oz, the show is so well written and such a clever twist on the original tale of The Wizard of Oz. I don't want to give away any spoilers but the inter woven connections and references to the other main characters from the Wizard of Oz are wonderfully done. The sets and costumes are gorgeous and I cannot get "Because I knew you" out of my head. A beautiful story about the power of friendship and kindness. read more

The songs, acting, costumes and special effects are all world-class and i would recommend this musical to all! Kerry Ellis and Dianne Pilkington have a great chemistry which makes the story all the more spellbinding and magical If you have to opportunity to queue up for 'day tickets'/front row seats be sure to get there WELL BEFORE 10am as the queue can often be down the street by 7am or even earlier! A really great show, much better than I expected. Great story, well played and sung. Having seen plays primarily in New York and Las Vegas, I was a bit concerned that the production level might not be up to my expectations, but that was a needless worry. The production was quite good, not overdone and very tasteful and engaging. The ticket prices are so good that we paid a bit too much from an on-street vendor near our hotel. Still, not disappointed because the play was that good. A bit long perhaps, at 2:45, but the time flew by. A hearty recommendation is deserved by this fine cast and crew! Well played! read more

Would you expect this to be anything but great? The cast was superb. For you Americans, "dress circle" would be balcony seats, and the "stalls" are orchestra seats. However the Apollo Victoria offered great views from every seat it seemed. Crowds are quite heavy when the doors open at 7 but thin quite quickly. If you can get your tickets beforehand, I'd recommend that. If not, make sure you enter the theatre on the correct side. Concessions were reasonably priced, and offered at your seat service with their app. You can also preorder for intermission avoiding the lines. read more

The cast and production is flawless. You can tell the cast are some of the best performers in the world. Lovely theatre. We got cheap tickets and still had a great view. Alice Fearn who played Elphaba on the. Ugly we went was completely breath taking. Her voice is truly other worldly and blew me away on more than one occasion. Just incredible. Fab fab fab. The play itself is complete masterpiece, the play is centered around the alternative story of the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz which is quite unique & funny. The acting, costumes, singing and music are amazing which make this a venue not to be missed. The show is about 3 hours long with a break in between during which there are people passing by with pricey snacks. Unfortunately there is only 2 bathrooms (male/female) and of courses everyone rushes of there during the break. As a result there is a good chance if you go you will miss a part of the play, If you are booking online you have to be careful not to pick some of the seats on the far left & right as they are behind some massive pillars and you will have limited view of the scene, so make sure you double check. I was surprised to find that the staff was quite friendly as well and when we asked if we could move to some better seats a few lines in front of us which were empty after the show started they were more than ok for us to do so. Finally, it is worth noting that usually just before the show starts they usually sell tickets for almost free so it is worth checking if you are passing by, but it isa bit of a gamble. Also amazon local started putting deals for £15 tickets for decent seats. read more

Hmm...I really wanted to like this. In fact, this is one of the shows I've most been looking forward to in the last few years and could finally get some cheaper tickets with the 'Get Into London Theatre' deal. Unfortunately though, perhaps my expectations were too high or maybe this just isn't as good as I thought it would be. We got the tickets half price but I have to say, if we had paid full-price I would have been a bit upset (we had Circle seats). The theatre is very big and if you're not on the ground, I think your experience is very different. There was definitely a lot more cheering and laughing from below and I can only guess it's because from our seats we could barely make out the actors' faces so we weren't as impacted by their facial expressions. The musical itself is a good story, moves along quite well, and is entertaining with great songs. However, this production is inconsistent. Maybe it was an off night but I felt like for most of the first half the chorus was not harmonizing well and the dancing choreography was stale and lacked energy. I sometimes felt like I was watching a high school production. I don't know if it was a problem with the audio but I was not impressed with most of the singing. The actress playing Elphaba was the only one who impressed and even then she was inconsistent. The actress playing Glinda overacted to the point where it was irritating and the actor playing Fiyero was a good actor but had barely any voice. Having listened to the original Broadway soundtrack (and being a huge fan of Idina Menzel), I can't help but see that this production comes nowhere near that. On the positive side, a lot of the props such as the dragon and the sets were entertaining. Also, the supporting characters Madame Morrible, Nessarose, and the wizard are quite good. Finally, the costumes are well done. I hate being harsh but I just felt let-down by this and given that the tickets are rarely on sale and it's sold out all the time, I think maybe the hype is overshadowing the fact that the production is mediocre. read more

I love musicals and have been waiting an age to see this. My boyfriend surprised me with tickets and so I've had a few weeks to get excited! We were sitting in the stalls row U and I was amazed that he got the tickets for £38 - it was the perfect view. I agree with others that it may feel a bit cramped, but it is an old London theatre and I always expect to be a little squashed. (Lucky for us no one was sitting near us, so we could dump all our stuff on a spare seat!). Anyway...the show was amazing! I loved how green Elphaba was! I loved the songs, and there were only one or two that didn't interest me as much as the rest. I think that this is a must for any fan of musicals and I'm already planning a return visit now I know what to expect. x read more

In London, my wife and I watched Wicked twice. The first was with me and her. The second time, I took my mother and sister (Lynda) to see the show with us. Each time, we loved it more. The wit and character development were truly great. On top of that, the music was amazing. I would truly recommend this musical. I think the fact I've seen this show 8 times speaks for itself. Wicked is a pretty incredible theatrical experience. Since it's opening in London 7 years ago, I've seen every cast change, bar one, and I've loved it even more every time I've seen it. Based on the Gregory Maguire novel, it's a spin on The Wizard of Oz from the witches points of view. The two leading characters Glinda and Elphaba, or Glinda the Good and The Wicked Witch of the West, take centre stage in this take on a classic. The music, the singing, the set and the overall performance are always incredible, and it's definitely a must see show. There's a cast change coming up in November. The final surprise in my girlfriends 30th birthday bonanza and the best surprise of the weekend. The costumes, the singing, the acting was all fantastically well done and the venue looked like it was made for this show. Let me set the scene. We open on a spacious lobby with a bar on one side with lovely decor and a bar on one side. We are taken down the stairs to the underground theatre and open up to a lovely stage with a dragon over it. The singing was fantatic, so clear and the acting was great too. I've seen Wicked five times, including on Broadway, and the West End production was hands-down the best! First, I loved the Apollo Victoria Theatre. It was grand, yet intimate, and it provided the best views I've ever seen. All the theatre staff were delightful too. We arrived about 2 minutes after the opening, so we had to wait out in the hall for about 15 minutes. The attendants were really nice and helped us to a window where we wouldn't miss any of the show. The show was the same great performance I've come to expect, but I loved the slight nuances that these actors brought to the script. The funny moments were funnier, the sad moments were sadder, and the singing was top notch. I know this is going to sound crazy, but seeing Wicked was my favorite part of visiting London! read more

The production of Wicked is amazing! I have seen it twice and felt the same buzz of butterflies each time. Wicked is twined into the movie The Wizard of Oz, I recommend watching that first if you have time, but even if you don't, the play will still make total sense! Just slightly more interesting if you do or have seen it. The venue is very easy to find - just outside Victoria station, you can see lots of signs towards it. I recommend getting there early enough to get snack etc, if you are late, you have to wait (like we did as dinner over-ran) until the end of the first act. This was my second musical, and a step up from the last one. The musical itself is absolutely brilliant, very well directed and produced, well worth a watch - but there's probably not much more I can write that hasn't already appeared in the new yorker and the times. Got a ticket for 30 pounds, not bad since they charge quite a bit more in NYC or even DC - view was quite good, center balcony. I have to complain, though, about the seats. They're made for people with extremely short legs it seems. All in all, good way to spend a sat night. read more

Probably we made the mistake of not being musical fans... regardless we decided to check it out as it had many good reviews. And, well the sets were amazing and the costumes gorgeous but as for the show it was just an incredibly loud cacophony of sound. Very very little dialogue, not much dancing and not much of anything else accept big musical numbers and those are mostly people singing at the tops of their voices amplified to ear piercing levels. We had to leave due to the volume of the show.... found it amusing they offer hearing aids! I think I may be in a minority of 1 here but I really hated the show. I had to take clients here and I am still missing those 3 hours of my life which I will never get back! I'm sure if I'd have watched this when I was 12 I would have enjoyed it but as an adult watching I found it excruciating & was counting the minutes until the end. The story was quite predictable, the characters quite annoying & some of the voices grating.. Wicked is a masterpiece. I have never met anyone who has not liked Wicked. Watching it for the first time you are bound to be mesmerised by the world that is created on stage by fabulous costumes, stunning singing and an easy-to-follow yet engaging story. But looking past the initial amazement of how incredible the collective performances are you can discover that it even has many intricate details embedded in the grand masterpiece that demonstrates how much thought has been put into the show and the script. It is this relentless delivery of cunning lyrics, beautiful  music and outstanding artistry that sets this musical apart to be what I believe to be the best feel-good, family entertainment musical of all time. Absolutely brilliant! I'm not a connoisseur of theater but you don't have to be to recognize how incredible this production is. Rachel Tucker was an incredibly Elphaba..I keep replaying her version of Defying Gravity on Youtube. Great story and music... I didn't want it to end! I would absolutely see this again. Also I sat in the stalls (row S, seat 43, price 32.50GBP) and I thought it was a great value. I don't think I'd want to be in the balcony after having this seat! Also love the location - right outside the Victoria station so it was really easy to find and I felt safe on my own going to and coming from the show. Highly, highly recommend! read more
