Kari is absolutely amazing. I found Kari through another friend who used her services and just…read moreraved about how good she was! She definitely knows what she is doing! I walked in late for a postpartum massage and she was very understanding of my situation. I had back pain and just needed a good massage. The massage definitely paid off, it was so relaxing and she was great at what she does! The atmosphere was also perfect and I had no problem winding down to enjoy my massage. I already booked another appointment for myself and my husband! She specializes in Moms and babies and offers a tummy time class as well as doula services. I couldn't recommend this place more, it was amazing! Book an appointment and you'll see, tell her Autumn sent you!

I started going when I was pregnant and have continued since. Kari starts each session to discuss areas of focus or concern. She makes sure to address them during the massage. I also appreciate that she takes time after our session to discuss exercises or things I could do at home to alleviate any aches or pains I may have. She creates a very peaceful and relaxing environment. I almost fall asleep every time. We attended a few of her Tummy time sessions as well, and it was fun to get out and interact with other babies and new mothers. I also appreciated the handouts she provided so you can practice (and remember) what to do at home. I can't say enough good things about this place.

She first met us at our favorite Chinese restaurant to talk and get to know each other a bit. You need to get along well with your doula because there's no time to be annoyed when you're birthing a child. We immediately fell in love with her and decided to hire her on the spot, even though we had a few other doulas we had planned to interview. She came to our apartment a few times after that to help us create our birthing plan and prepare mentally (and also the house too) for having a child, since neither of us had ever even changed a diaper before! We went into labor unexpectedly about a week before the due date very early in the morning. She came over immediately and helped us through a very rushed and chaotic labor, making it as easygoing and to the original plan as possible. She advocated for our original wishes and helped us understand when and why to make changes as needed. She's a certified massage therapist so was great with massaging when I needed and not touching me when I said NO! haha. She even helped us get the type of laboring room we wanted in the hospital since I really wanted to take a bath. She was a rock for me during the birthing process and for my husband too. She said the words we needed to hear when we needed to hear them and was absolutely perfect, amending her communication and approach to whatever we needed as things progressed. And afterwards she even went to get us bubble tea and watched our tiny newborn so we could take a nap. After all was said and done, she came over a week or so later to check on our tiny baby and make sure everything was going well. She never tired of questions and was so welcoming and affirming the whole time. Two and a half years later we're still in touch and asking questions along the way. Linnea was an invaluable asset and I absolutely refuse to give birth without her in the future!! She does book up quickly, so if you're pregnant, make sure you get in contact with this amazing woman immediately. And congrats! :-) PS - I have gotten massages for my daughter when she was a baby (probably 8 months old) and for my husband and my husband raved and raved about how amazing it was and my newborn seemed quite content the whole time. She also teaches classes like how to create a montessori environment in your home, how to communicate with toddlers, how to potty train your baby or toddler and more!

So on Thursday, I decided that something had to change. I needed to do something for myself and my baby to help get me back in a better place. Enter: Modern Mama Wellness Center. I had heard about the prenatal yoga offered by Jackie and her business from a friend of mine, and considering the first class is free, I thought it couldn't hurt. I signed up for and attended Saturday morning's class. And wow, did it help me refocus my energies and feel better. I love yoga and have taken part in several classes through the years, but this one was different. It started with the seven of us in the class going around and introducing ourselves, saying how far along we are and what our biggest obstacle from the last week was. The entire class is low impact, which you can imagine for prenatal yoga. But even being low impact, I could tell immediately that it was making a difference. First of all, I had difficultly even keeping my eyes closed for the relaxation exercises at the beginning. That's how tense I was to start. But this got better throughout the class. Jackie included tidbits about pregnancy and labor throughout the class, such as how you can sit differently and use yoga poses to get the baby in a better position. And then at the end of the class, she came around and gave everyone neck and scalp massages with essential oil and placed warm rice packs on the back of your necks. I didn't have any trouble relaxing especially after that. Modern Mama is in a small building behind Louisville Family Chiropractic on New La Grange Road, near the malls on Shelbyville Road. Definitely know that before you go. And my one suggestion to Modern Mama would be to provide class prices on the website, social media or even on a pamphlet. I want to signup, but it's hard to keep the different price levels straight. Jackie also is a doula, I believe, and Modern Mama offers infant massage, childbirth classes and other wellness workshops, including a "comfort class for dads," which goes over how dads can comfort moms in labor. I can't wait to go back for another prenatal yoga class and for these classes to help me get stronger and prepare for having this baby.

I kind of wish all yoga was this chill, with plenty of reminders to go at your own pace. I especially dig the Monday class when Ester works in some restorative poses towards the end of every class, along with some adjustments and lavender heated rice bags at the end. The sign up and payment process is super easy (online sign up, Venmo or cash payment). Every class has a short intro/sharing time at the beginning and the instructors are really kind and empathetic about the woes of pregnancy. It's a good way to get into the right head space. Also, I always always feel better after in terms of low back and hip pain, so that's a big plus!
