I eventually opted to keep one add-on (gelled lighting) and apply the remaining funds to additional images + small refund. Obtaining the refund has required some back-and-forth, but that's been the only hiccup and hasn't impacted the extremely high quality of the shoot, retouching, or final images in any way. Sarah made the whole process super easy and, dare I say, almost relaxing?…read more Before the shoot: Sarah was excellent at setting expectations in advance with great materials to peruse (helping me select where to shoot, what I would wear, and answering a ton of small questions in both the contract and other documentation she sent). I've always been anxious about having my picture taken by professionals but I knew I needed to bite the bullet and get new headshots. I sent pictures of my clothing options in advance and Sarah helped me narrow down to a few different things we could try. During the shoot: we got off to a great start with free and easy street parking at our meeting spot (I know that's not totally in Sarah's control but it's a point in Petaluma's favor as a location!). We wandered around downtown's alleys and parking lots for about an hour. That doesn't sound glamorous but it's true that exterior walls are a lot more interesting as a background than you'd expect in a photo. Neutral but not boring. Throughout the session we talked about my goals for the shoot and my work, and I learned more about Sarah, too, which helped me relax even more. After the shoot: again, setting great expectations that Sarah would take some time to process but would email me in about a week. I was in such an adrenaline rush by the time it was over that I forgot everything she said when we were done, but she kindly responded to my email asking her to repeat everything she told me later that day. Then, she delivered the photos several days earlier than expected (I am a sucker for underpromising and overdelivering). I never thought I'd have a good time getting photos taken but Sarah changed my mind!
