Unlikely location sort of behind a trailer park. The Blue Door is made further unlikely by its…read morefare; hamburgers, shakes and espresso. The atmosphere is sort of resort casual with picnic tables and vinyl polka dot table clothes. The bathrooms were old, but clean. The place overlooks the ocean, but takes almost no advantage of this fact. The service seemed to be all friendly, well-trained young people, perfect with the casual atmosphere. The beef was better than anything we would have the right to expect, local, Scottish, butchered down the road. Toasted buns seemed just right, as did the chips, hot and not greasy. Since coffeehouses are not a thing in town, this seems a great place to relax for coffee, until the need for a burger arises. Pro tip: you need to park in the correct place.

Excellent American-style diner at the very tip of Scotland!…read more We not only ate here but we also camped at the accompanying camping park. The owner was lovely and very accommodating. We had breakfast here, I had the Floridian and my partner had the Sampler. The crispy bacon is awesome and the whole meal was delicious. But by far the best thing of all was the Pumpkin Pie Milkshake!! Screw Starbucks and their lattés, this shake was AMAZING!!! I'm sure the actual pie is just as good! Will definitely return if I'm ever in Thurso. Thanks, from the 2 Australians who were dumb enough to camp in a tent in the middle of October :D

A bit like a travel back in time. Deep in Caithness, a wonderful, under - rated area, an old time…read moretea shop in the middle of nowhere. Was following a Neil Gunn route, and needed a scone. Got in just before a busload of tourists who invaded the toilets and assaulted the home baking. However, the coffee was great and the person who supplied the home baking should be nominated for a National Treasure Award. Neil M. Gunn, our finest novelist, is all over this area. A heritage centre, a statue of one of his most enthralling characters, his Strath (where you can go searching for the Source AND the Well at the World's End). And then, pop up here for some tea or coffee and monumental cake. For what else is all the bother about? Simply this...

I have to say I am really pleased we did stop there. The hospitality was amazing. "Sit down and make yourself at home". There was a cabinet full of cream scones and I think by the time we had all sat down there cabinet was bare. Tea was brought to us whilst we took advantage of the wonderful food on offer. Not only that there were free fill ups if required. I have to say I have never been to a nicer place for a cup of tea and a cream scone. It was excellent value and if I go that way again I will definitely call in. I am going to tell all my friends about this lovely place in case they choose to venture over the border. Thank you for making the visit worthwhile. Believe me I am nor exaggerating with the five stars I have given you.
