We were driving through and took a chance without a reservation for lunch and they were able to accommodate us. Our server was great and he recommended the sampler platter so we could try a bunch of things. We also had some cheese and bread and a bottle of local wine. The sampler platter was nice and the one thing we did not care for was the blood sausage. We finished with the alcatra and it was really good. Definitely try this place and make a reservation, too. read more

INCREDIBLE experience here. Location is a small, quaint cottage with a really comfortable atmosphere. Everything is made in-house and is *delicious*. Fair warning, it serves meat eaters only, but they make that clear as soon as you step in. The server we had spoke english and was so so funny and charming! It was 15 euros per person for maybe 7 dishes, and they gave a full sampling platter of traditional food. Cannot recommend highly enough! read more

This is like having a slow leisurely dinner at your best friend's mother's house. The warmth and welcoming cannot be overstated, so settle yourself in for a couple hours of relaxation. The usually pre dinner fare of bread, cheeses, etc are available upon request. The menu is brought to you hand written on a chalkboard (because I'm guessing it changes all the time), and the servers will stand and explain each menu item to you in detail. This will take some time, but it's part of the whole personal experience. Once you make your selections, you should order yourself a bottle of wine to pass the time until your food appears. It will be worth the wait, trust me. Pro tip: Make. A. Reservation. They are open for one seating at night. Tables do not turn over. Get in by 7-7:30, out by 9-9:30, then the restaurant closes, that's it. Especially if you're driving from another part of the island to eat here... You don't want to be turned away. It was a Monday night and every table was full, so it's clearly a popular place. We called earlier in the day and were able to get a spot so it's not too crazy. This is a restaurant that serves only traditional meat dishes so if you are not a meat eater go somewhere else. The sampler plate started with stewed pork, roast pork ribs, pork sausages, pork blood sausages, sweet potato slices, and 2 slices of toast. The beef stew with 2 slices of sweet bread came after, but we were already quite full by then so we could only eat 2 pieces of the stew which was a pity. I had read reviews about this place and my husband read a book about Terceira written by a frequent visitor to the island. We found ourselves in the little village of Serreta about noon yesterday and stopped. Luckily we were able to get the one unreserved table (I strongly suggest making reservations even for lunch). Our server suggested the sampler plate to get a taste of the main dishes of the island. The plate included two types of sausages, a pork and liver dish served with sweet potatoes, and two beef dishes - the final one being the popular alcatra beef stew served with sweet bread. The atmosphere was great, and the service and food excellent. Go if you get the chance! read more

Possibly one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. From start to finish, they know what they are doing. Amazing service. Amazing staff. You really are treated well here. We got the sampler plate it was out of this world good. The traditional beef stew was absolutely amazing as was everything else. If you are visiting the island, this is a must try kind of place. We are actually going back tomorrow for dinner because we don't think we will find anything else as wonderful as this. I've never gone to the same place twice back to back anywhere in the world so this is saying a lot. Come here and anything you get you will not be disappointed. read more

This place is amazing. The food is incredible and is served family style, at least with large groups. We've eaten here 3 times: twice with groups of about 40 people and once with a group of 8. She we ate with the large groups we reserved the restaurant for ourselves and ate on a Friday. They make the bread fresh just before your arrival in those instances. The food comes in courses and you will leave very full and satisfied. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want excellent traditional island food. read more

This was the best food and experience I had in the Azores. Ti Choa is owned by two sisters who were incredibly friendly and talented. We sampled many local dishes selected by our tour guide. The servings were ample and each dish was amazing, melting in my mouth. The restaurant is decorated as if it is a home with farm tables that seat anywhere from 2 to 6. The service was fairly quick and extremely attentive. Wish I lived closer so I could make this a regular place to dine. read more

Wonderful, rustic dinner! Everything is cooked on-premise from scratch. They have an option to do a traditional dinner course, where they pick everything for you...and it was amazing! Started with pork ribs (crispy pork belly), liver sauce (amazing, has both liver and pork in it and the most amazingly seasoned potatoes), black pudding (don't be deterred, it tastes incredible especially if you eat it with the oranges on the plate), and alcatra (traditional Portuguese pot roast that falls off the bone). They had a number of dessert options--I went with the traditional sweet vinegar pudding (really liked this, doesn't taste like vinegar, just subtly sweet). The ambiance is fantastic, feels like you're dining in a family friend's home. Very welcoming. We only had a party of two, but saw a lot of larger groups here as well that were easily accommodated. Well worth the drive, will be back again! read more
