The staff are all very courteous and friendly, and equally important they are competent and helpful. Although busy, communications are relatively painless, messages get through as needed, referrals are processed efficiently and their surgical coordinators make the entire process flow smoothly. read more

Do not go here if you care about your vision. Last year and again this month I had to go back to them TWICE in order for them to get the prescription correct. Went 3 times and got three different prescriptions. When I called the supervisor to ask if they would pay for an updated prescription she said no, it wasn't their fault!! REALLY!!!??? This happened last year too. Dr Iacabucci had a melt down while seeing me last year . Told me I asked too many questions and went over my 10 minute limit. After treating me for years he said he didn't work with patients who had optic neuropathy from controlled MS. So then why had he been seeing me every 6 months for years?! All the providers were professional and courteous, but I can't shake the feeling of how it felt like I was in an assembly line in a factory. At the end of the visit I spoke with the doctor who seemed disappointed my eyesight ended up with me having a weak prescription. Another thing I didn't like was you pickup your paper script in the glasses store they have setup. I guess I am spoiled from going to smaller vision centers. Dr. Elkins is a great retinal specialist. She works to ensure your eye stays healthy as you age. We have been coming to see Dr. Kori Elkins for over two years. She is always courteous and kind. Her techniques are always the latest and greatest whenever there is a new issue that arises with our eye health. She is very good at coordinating care with Mom's internal medicine physician. Customer service is always outstanding. You will enjoy the scheduling process and communication with her staff. Dr. Elkins is normally on schedule which is a nice change from most doctor's office visits. They have great parking and you have the ability to drive up and drop off a person under the covered porch during inclement weather. A plus for children and the elderly. The facility is constantly updated. You can do everything related to your eye health on premises. Annual checkups, glasses and contacts. They also perform laser surgery for cataracts, vision correction and eye diseases. read more

I thought I had glaucoma. Look, I'm not as young as I look...never mind I'm a hypochondriac; I was actually referred to a glaucoma specialist by my optometrist. After putting it off for several months, I finally visited Tidewater Eye Center...and it was very different from what I expected. It's crowded, for starters. Like, barely any empty seats in the waiting area. It's also large inside. And there are at least six employees at sectioned off counters. Get in where you fit in and sign in. In the midst of that, there are names being called out minutes apart by various employees to go to the back. And after you're seen, you go to a completely different and smaller waiting room. It was actually chaotic to me. I guess I'm used to a smaller more intimate medical facility. Everyone that worked there was nice. I interacted with four people that assisted one of the ophthalmologists that eventually saw me, Dr. DeVantier. I only wish I knew the amount of eye drops and dilation I was in for cause I left there pretty blind. Had to chill at my parents' house that's close by, as that was as far as I could actually drive safely. The experience wasn't rushed. It was just...busy. A lot happening. They felt attentive, though. The doctor was wonderful. And I'm not just saying that because I don't have glaucoma. read more

I highly recommend Tidewater Eye Center. I had an appt last week for a routine glaucoma check. First, I want to thank the entire practice for the STRICT COVID-19 precautions in place. I felt perfectly safe during the testing and exam process. Sarah, one of the technicians, is such a dedicated professional, explained everything in such detail, and is a terrific addition to the practice. Dr Iacobucci is such a wonderful physician. I went to get a cataract evaluation and eye pressure test as I was told do by Dr. Devantier. The staff was rude and insisted that I have a full exam. I am not well and it was very hard to even get there, but they would not help me. I am extremely disappointed in the place. I have been going there for over forty year and now I may loose my eyesight because of the front staff. My daughter is going to call today and ask that the doctor call her back. I am posting the following review on behalf of my mother: I do not recommend Tidewater Eye Center or Dr. Edmonds. I was scheduled to have cataract surgery on June 4, 2020. My original surgery was scheduled for April 2020, but it was rescheduled due to COVID-19 closures. During my initial consultations, we discussed options. I chose, based on the doctor's recommendation, the laser surgery. Dr. Edmonds indicated during this discussion that if he had to have the procedure; he would choose the laser because of its increased precision. During that visit, I was also informed of the cost of the surgery. I was warned repeatedly that insurance would not cover portions of the laser option. I indicated that I was not concerned with the cost, and I would go with the laser option. On the day of my rescheduled visit, June 4, 2020, I checked in at the registration desk at Bon Secours Surgery Center. My blood was drawn; eye drops were applied, and a purple dot was placed on my forehead to indicate the eye on which the surgery would be performed. I was in the room about to have the procedure performed when one of Dr. Edmonds' staff members came in to say that I needed to pay for the procedure. I said "Fine. I can pay now." She indicated that I needed to pay at the office location. Again, I was checked in and registered at the surgical center in Suffolk. Office locations are in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Norfolk. I indicated that I could pay now and that they could charge my card. The staff member said "No, I needed to pay at the office," and walked away. Dr. Edmonds indicated that I could simply get the surgery that my insurance would cover in total. He indicated that it costs thousands of dollars to simply turn on the machine. He then said that he had conducted the other surgery tens of thousands of times before. I said that we discussed the laser surgery and that was what I wanted. I said that I was insulted because they were behaving as though I could not or would not pay. I declined to have any procedure conducted, and I canceled all upcoming appointments. I called the office twice this week to ensure that everything was still on schedule. I called as recently as the day before the surgery to ensure that all of my information was up to date. At no time was I told that I needed to pay in advance at a different location. I would have gladly done so. They were attempting to persuade me to undergo a procedure that was different from the one for which I was scheduled, and the one Dr. Edmonds recommended. If he would choose, the laser option why was he attempting to deny me that procedure. Attempting to switch the scheduled procedure after one has gone through all of the initial steps seems especially unethical. I am loath to ascribe every negative interaction one may have to bigotry or racism, and clearly there was some incompetence at play here, but I must confess that I can find no other reason for my treatment today. The staff member who walked away offered no options, which was just horrible customer service. She refused to take my card for payment. She was dismissive, and she walked away without even attempting to come up with a solution. I can think of many solutions. Solution #1: Call the office and give them my card number. Solution #2: Allow me to call someone and have them drive to one of the offices and make payment since payment could "only" be accepted at the office. My daughter would have gladly done so. I am a Black woman, and I believe that the doctor and his staff did not believe I could afford the laser procedure. It is only in retrospect that I now see that their initial reiterations of the cost were because they did not believe that I could pay. I should not have to say this because all patients should be treated with respect, but I am not on Medicare or Medicaid. I work and I have insurance through my employer, and I could afford the procedure. I do not recommend this doctor or his practice. The treatment that I received today suggests that Dr. Edmonds and his staff believe that some people are less deserving of respect and the "innovative" medical treatment his bio claims he provides. read more

I have been a patient Tidewater Eye Center, located at the Academy Ave office in Portsmouth for the last 15 years. The office staff are always smiling, friendly, and professional. In addition, I am extremely impressed with Dr Len Rappaport's knowledge, friendly caring professional demeanor, and outstanding surgical skills. Over the years he performed several eye surgeries and thanks to his skills, I kept the greatest gift of all, my vision. I will always be thankful for the outstanding care received. I've been to Tidewater three times in three years for my annual diabetic eye exams. Keep in mind that you are in a high volume environment with lots of doctors nurses and patients. That said, the staff is very professional and when you get face to face with the doctor I never felt rushed. JMHO, but I would never buy prescription glasses there because the prices (the same with all eye clinics) are outrageous. Overall, very satisfied with the clinic. read more
