I like how the menu ventures beyond the usual mainstays of Southeast Asian food such as pad thai, red curry, and satays to offer Burmese specialties like tea leaf salad, Burmese curry, and Shan tofu, which is made with chickpeas, instead of soy. I enjoyed the fish cake and glass noodle salad, which is very nice during hot weather. Tiger Chef is the only Burmese restaurant within a six to ten hour radius of Columbia, MO, so one will have to drive either 385 miles to Chicago or 727 miles Denver for Burmese food, if Tiger Chef didn't exist. Tiger Chef is located behind the liquor store on Rainforest Parkway, so since you can't see it directly from the road, you may not even know it exists. This is a solid addition to the limited "north of 70" options. Certainly one of the best Thai fusion places in Columbia. We tried several dishes that were all amazing and with large portions. I'm looking forward to getting into more of the Burmese side of the menu on our next visit. The decor could use some attention if they want to be a dine in destination. Otherwise, get that carry out. We visited with friends and had a nice meal. Everyone in the restaurant is very kind and friendly. The Thai tea was good and there is a nice selection of beer. We shared several apps and the shrimp rolls were the best. The pad Thai was above average. We liked the beef Burmese curry which has a bit of an Indian flavor. We were so surprised to taste such terrific authentic Burmese/Thai/Malaysian food in Columbia. Beautifully seasoned and spiced. The Burmese curry is delicious - we had it made with pork. And, we tried the special Mohiynga (sp?) soup which is only served at weekends - just superb. Naturally, we can't leave without ordering the fried bananas and sweet potatoes "to go" and we were not disappointed when we tried them later at home for tea. Do check this place out. They do a brisk carry-out business in their residential neighborhood, but dining in was very pleasant. The interior was spotless but the parking lot had lots of cigarette butts and other debris. 8/2/19 - Food came out too quick to be freshly prepared. Crab rangoon was good. Egg rolls were a 4 out of 10. Chicken pad thai came with chicken AND tofu. I don't like tofu. It tasted good for the first few bites but lost flavor and spice. Weird dining area layout with minimal seating options. Lots of open space though. We tried Tiger Chef for the first time today. Very tasty! Love their crab Rangoon, in a very thin pastry, so you could actually taste the crab. We had the Pad Thai and it tasted just like Pad Thai should! I ordered iced tea-and got Thai iced tea-which was not what I was expecting-but very good. We had the Pad Thai, Tiger Noodle, Tiger rice , chicken wings. My Wife and I shared with another couple & all agreed that the food was fantastic. Staff explained Thai Burmese cuisine a bit, recommended going with a 2 or 2.5 instead a 3 spice level that I would normally order from Thai restaurants , and that was a good call as seasoned just right.
