I feel fortunate to have found Tiger Motors. I mostly communicated with Luke, who is very pleasant and even tempered. As a fellow engineer (although in a different field) I can tell that he is careful, thorough, and conscientious. He wants the best result possible. The mechanics do quality work and also do a lot of work quickly. The shop has a great process for inspecting the vehicle and dividing things into what needs to be repaired right away, and what you can keep an eye on, or maybe repair somewhere else (like a windshield). I feel like I can trust their recommendations. I came in with a steaming/overheating engine with a huge knock in the rear, coolant leaks, that was barely drivable, and for around 1K, it is driving quite well now. I brought my 1998 4runner in for an oil change and inspection, and am extremely happy with the service I was provided. I was able to get an appointment quickly and easily, and they were very informative about the problems that were found. Garett asked what my goals were with the truck (just keep it running, restore, fixing to sell, etc), and worked with me to come up with a to-do list in order of importance. The prices for everything quoted were very fair, and both Garett and Luke worked hard to show that they were grateful for the business. I feel I got much better service than taking it to the dealer, and will be returning to Tiger Motors for all of my mechanical needs from here on out. The location is a huge pain in my rear due to my schedule and the fact that I live about 40 minutes to an hour away, but I will continue willingly making the trek because this shop is the best I have ever experienced (by far). This morning my trunk hatch would not allow me to close the trunk. My teenage son was upset because we were trying to get out the door so he wouldn't be late to school... I recently took my Prius to Tiger Motors. The engine suddenly began missing badly. The first shop I took it to tried various diagnostics and fixes without success. They recommended Tiger Motors for their expertise on Prius cars. They did not have an easy time of it either. They spent a considerable amount of time trying to run down the problem. The cause of the problem remained elusive, but because of the scoring they observed on cylinder walls, they concluded that I needed either an expensive engine rebuild or a used replacement engine. They found a replacement engine with a little over half the mileage of our car. I was able to get some history on it via Carfax. So we purchased it and they installed it. But there was still a bit of a shudder under certain acceleration conditions. Again they spent a lot of time figuring out the problem until they found signs of water in the the fuel rails and then in the gas tank, the origin of which remains a mystery. After all the water was removed, the car ran fine and continues to do so. I greatly appreciated the professional dedication of Luke and Garret in methodically and relentlessly tracking down the issues. They would not give up until the car was fixed right. And in the end, they charged for only a fraction of the hours they spent diagnosing the problems. Excellent quality service and more than fair billing. Highly recommended. read more

I needed to get my 90,000 mile service on my Toyota, which is a major service. And very expensive. So, I shopped around calling on auto service centers with high ratings on yelp. Garrett from Tiger motors suggested that I drop by and check them out. So, I did. When I went to Tiger Motors I was pleasantly surprised when Garrett, the owner, came out and greeted me. He was very cordial and did a few things for me for free while I was there. I scheduled an appointment and He added a bit of oil for me because I was going on a trip over the weekend before I was going to get my car serviced. He noticed that one of my tires was low and put air in it. Anyway, to make a long story short, I am happy to say that I went with Tiger Motors it's really nice to be able to talk to someone who can explain what the problem is with my car in everyday language. The price that they gave me was competitive and they were extremely friendly. I highly recommend Tiger motors especially to Toyota owners--Think about how nice it would be to have your car worked on by a person instead of a technician with a number that you never get to see. read more

A mechanic you can trust is a great thing in life. When you drop your car off, you know it's in good hands. When he says a price, it's always fair. He and his team are great. I have had 5 cars worked on by Garrett (lift kit, timing chain, timing belt, water pumps, head gasket, wheel stud, rough idle) and all experiences have been great. They are factory trained, and have a ton of knowledge about cars. There are a lot of mechanics in Santa Cruz, and I have always felt kind of ripped off, or like they were adding on services I didn't need. Not here. He tells you straight up, here is what your car needs to be back on the road, here is what is could use to be running even better, and here are a few things you should do eventually. Owner worked for major dealer for a decade so is very experienced with Toyota vehicles. Personable and helpful owner and staff, a small shop, who give extra attention and appreciate their customers. Went beyond what was asked of them in terms of service and attentiveness. Pricing lower than dealer. If you have a Lexus or Toyota I would highly recommend that you give them a try. I called a day early to schedule an appointment for an oil change, a day later I was in and out within 30-45 minutes. My car requires synthetic oil so I think it was roughly 60 bucks. I've been to a lot of mechanics...my Lexus has 288K miles on it...and Garrett is the best. He explains things and shows you what he is doing. He got the work done exactly when he said he would at the promised price. He offered to pick me up or drop off my car. But the best thing was the price. He did a timing belt at a third the price of other places I've been to. He really knows the car and pointed things out to me that no one else has. Oh yeah: he finds you the best and cheapest parts. I had a steering wheel motor burn out. That would be $400 plus anywhere else. He took it apart and found it was one gear that was stripped. He got on eBay, found the gear and fixed the motor while I watched. That's when I knew I was dealing with a pro who knew the best way to help customers. My only fear in writing this is he will get too popular and I won't be able to get in when I need him...but wth...have to help the guy who helped me and help y'all find a mechanic you can trust. read more

So I have a 2014 Mazda 3 manual transmission! I took my car to Garrett and a couple of other places who all told me I needed a new transmission! Fortunately for me, I had an extended warranty and asked Garrett if he would provide the service on my car. I went out of town on a business trip and left my car at the shop. When I returned, my car was ready to go even tho Garrett still had not gotten paid by my insurance! I paid my share and left. I drove my car to target which is only a couple miles down the road! When I came out of the store something went wrong with my car! It would not go into gear so I immediately called Garrett. He came to where I was gave me his own personal car and took mine back to his shop where he fixed a minor detail that was not his fault! Next day I picked up my car and it was good to go ! I highly recommend tiger Motors to anyone I know even tho he specializes in certain males and models (my car not included), he did an awesome job !
