Bellavista Bed and Breakfast is the best place to stay on Saint Thomas and let me tell you why. Location: The bed and breakfast is halfway up a sizable hill, so you get a clear view of the cruise ship harbor, the ocean, and all of Charlotte Amelie, the second biggest town on the island. It's far enough away from downtown that you can't really hear it, but close enough that a quick 5 minute walk will get you where you want to go. Facilities: An amazing house with surprisingly strong security; if she didn't point it out to you, you wouldn't notice it at all. The house is very open during the day and locked up tight at night time. The house itself is gorgeous with a lovely open living room and a balcony off the kitchen where Wendy, the owner, serves her amazing breakfasts (more on that later). There is a private deck side pool for when you want to skip coki beach and just be somewhere quiet. The rooms are just what you need, and she keeps them immaculate. Breakfast: Prepared to be blown away. My wife and I are pretty used to hotel continental breakfasts: contrasted with Wendy's food the hotels are serving you rubbish. Wendy prepares beautiful meals with fresh fruit, everything made from scratch, and frequently with self made smoothies. Breakfast isn't something you'd ever expect to be this good; for us it was the best part of everyday, and we had some really good days. Wendy: Yeah she's an amenity all by herself. She's incredibly friendly, very funny, and gives you the most personal service you've ever had. She knows practically everything about the island and what to do, she knows exactly who and when to call for cabs, and on top of this runs the whole B&B almost single handedly. She's one of the nicest people you will ever meet. All in all you're going to be getting an experience better than some of the activities on the island you'll be booking. We felt like family from the moment we arrived and met Savannah. The location is close/walkable to town but very quiet. Breakfast every morning was fresh, everything was clean, and Tim was always a text away for any questions or suggestions. There was an "island issue" hiccup where we didn't have water for half a day, but a case of water (and a bottle of wine) delivered to our room made us forget about any inconvenience. Being on the deck for sunset, glass of wine and music from the bay were perfect. We did walk up from the Bay Area and it was a hike, be ready. Going down was much easier of course. There is a trial you can hike to Honeymoon Beach. This beach was probably our top for just chilling out and enjoying the ocean. There were lounge chairs here, a bar to buy drinks, large area for shade, (if you need that) ;). We ended up renting a Jeep so we could go explore all the different beaches/areas of the island. Maho beach, great snorkeling, you will see a turtle. Even if not snorkeling you will see a turtle. Fun area here for food/drink, and lots of different rentals. The resort provides beach chairs for you to use, a cooler and you can rent the snorkel gear. I encourage you to take advantage of all that. They also provide ice. We didn't discover that until we had been there for a couple of days. Everyone working on the resort was so friendly, including the owner. When we go back to Saint John we will be staying here again! The location was perfect for us. It was a reasonable stroll to the beach bars and ferry (by way of the path along the pond). But the distance from those "lively" spots means that an evening spent on the veranda at the inn is restful, not like your third-story balcony over M Street in Georgetown. When we booked our trip in March, it was with Kathleen, but when we arrived it was the new owners, Eileen and John, who greeted us. Every thing had been handled so seamlessly that, if they had not told us of their new occupation as inn owners, we would not have known there had been a hand-off. From the helpful hospitality and excellent breakfasts, to the morning greeting of Fiona and Cooper (their dogs), we found this garden by the sea a genuine West Indies experience.

We loved our daily breakfasts with them. They let you pick a breakfast time, and then set you up outside on the balcony so you can view the water while you eat. It is so relaxing and the food is both delicious and plenty to get your day started. It's also super conveniently located. We picked Red Hook and Two Sandals because it was right by the ferry dock to St John as well as centrally located to all the places we wanted to go while on the island. Very easy to call a taxi for pick up from here, but just check with them when calling to see if they'll drive up the hill or not - some taxis will expect you to meet them at the bottom of the hill. Highly recommend staying here while enjoying your time on St Thomas!

For an extra fee, they picked us up from the airport, which was awesome and made the start of our vacation stress free. The spot is close enough to walk to Red Hook (if you're adventurers like us) or a cheap taxi. Either way, you make it down within minutes, and they have EVERYTHING here - food, shops, and a ferry to St. John. It was the perfect spot. If you went the other way, it's a quick walk to Secret Harbor Beach, which, WOW. It's not crowded, white sand beaches, and beautiful sunsets. Highly recommend. The room was initially smaller than we anticipated, but it wasn't bad, especially since we were barely there. Very clean, quiet, and accommodating. The owners were always around, and always available by text for the best experience. I've seen a few reviews about no hot water, this isn't true, it just takes a few minutes to warm up. So don't listen to those. I saved the best for last. THE BREAKFAST. HOLY COW. It's home made, fresh, and SO delicious. It was SO worth it for this every morning on their balcony over looking Red Hook Bay. We loved our experience here. Highly recommend.

It was colourful, warm and welcoming. Culebra is not an island of big fancy 5 star hotels or casinos and that's just what I were looking for. You feel at home in Culebra the moment you are greeted at the airport by Mark or Terrie and this is something that I have never experienced before. Mark and Terrie were over the top, fantastic hosts. They were more than helpful when it came to suggestions on places to dine, activities to do that day or places to rent a kayak or bike. Not only were they friendly and accommodating but they went above and beyond what you would normally expect from a regular B&B in the states. Their thoughtfulness radiates from them like sunshine on the beach. If my boyfriend or I needed anything at all, Mark and Terrie would make sure they recommended something or got it for us. I went to Culebra during Thanksgiving vacation and wasn't expecting to find a Turkey dinner anywhere. To my surprise, I was invited upstairs to Mark and Terrie's place above the guesthouse for a HUGE feast fit for a king. It was great to converse with other guests, meet their friends from the island and get to know Mark and Terrie. I felt like a true islander that had lived here for years and not just a visitor or a guest. I stayed in the Bougainvillea Room which had a Queen sized bed. Each room at the Palmetto included a private bathroom with a shower, mini-refrigerator, an air conditioner and an alarm clock (very helpful, but we didn't use it much... hehe). They provided clean linens and also offered complementary beach towels, snorkeling gear and GREAT coffee every morning.. and this just names a few of the complementary items offered. The steps in the heat are also a killer, but I did chose to drag my luggage from the ferry terminal, so I probably wouldn't have been AS dripping wet had I taken a taxi. Again, my bad. However, when I went to my room the TV was on and the bed was unmade. I mentioned this to the sweet woman who was busy with an infant an on the phone with a friend, and she asked if I'd bring her the sheets. Sure. No big deal. She gave me a flat sheet and one pillow case. I had to ask twice for the fitted sheet and 2nd pillow case, and made the bed myself. The room was also clearly once an outdoor veranda that had been enclosed, as was the bathroom next door, which did have a real window, but no A/C. The property, though, is actually pretty nice. The next morning, after the OK continental breakfast with a fellow traveler I ran into, who sat next to on the plane to the BVI 2 weeks earlier, and ran into again at the marina where we were both chartering sailboats, he showed me their room. It was very nice and big, with an ensuite, balcony, real windows with an ocean view. I'd paid about $100 for mine. He said they paid $120. How there's a $20 difference between those two rooms is absolutely baffling. If you're thinking of staying here, pay very close attention to the description of the room (and be prepared to make your own bed!)

I had a great view of the town and got to meet their cute residential cat, Captain Jack (he was a lovely alarm clock at 6AM when I heard his meows outside). The other alarm clocks are the roosters at 3AM, and they will keep going for hours, which had me laughing. Let me warn you, if you stay during the weekend, the club next door will be BUMPING. Also, be prepared for mosquitos and have some repellent ready to go. Don't be scared of the lizards. They are more scared of you and fun to watch. There are A LOT of stairs. PACE YOURSELF. Most of everything in town closes at 5PM. There's a really good food truck outside that has some good soul food (he only comes out around 5PM and you can smell it). Other than that, I had a roommate I named Jeremy, the resident huntsman spider who decided to live in the shower area (I let him live and slept with one eye open).

Harrison in the club lounge always made us feel welcome and appreciated. We had a photographer (blue glass photography) Alain Brin, he was amazing for our photo shoot. Overall a 5 star experience. The Ritz Carlton in St. Thomas does not meet expectations of what you would expect staying at a…read moreRitz and in this price point. We came a few days early on our own and then the ladder half of the week we were part of a large group. The hotel was obviously empty when we got there. When we checked in, they told me I had a garden view room and I had been told I would get Ocean view. When I asked if they could accommodate because I knew the hotel was fairly empty they disagreed with me and told me oh that is far from the truth. I guess they're not allowed to tell you That they are at low capacity because for the next few days we barely saw anybody there. They did give us a different room, however, there was a card in the room, made out to someone else and a plate of fruit for them too that never got moved. The room appears older, but they tried to do some modern renovations. There was still dings on the walls, scratches in the paint and older looking flooring. The towels in the room were older, not very white anymore, and very rough to the touch. My oldest towels at home are far nicer than these, again, not what you expect staying at the Ritz. We went to one of the restaurants called Coconut Grove for lunch. We ordered a jerk seasoned fish sandwich. The fish was fresh and decent, however, there was no jerk seasoning on it as described. When the waitress came over and asked how everything was, we told her and she just laughed and said she would have to have a talk with the kitchen. There was no offer of fixing it or replacing it. I did share this information with one of the food and beverage managers walking around when she asked me how my lunch was. She did make the situation right by giving us a certificate for lunch on property the next day. That was very nice of her and we did appreciate that. The next day we had scheduled spa treatments. The spa facility was a huge disappointment. When going into the steam room, there are chipped and loose tiles all over the floor. I nearly cut my foot on a piece of broken tile. I then proceeded to pick up a whole handful of broken tiles that were loose on the floor. They need to warn their guests to make sure to wear their provided rubber flip-flops. This is extremely hazardous and unacceptable. In addition, the bathroom had no toilet paper. They were not cleaning up empty glasses that were left in the spa. The relaxation area was very basic and not even anywhere to put your feet up. The treatment rooms are Also really old and not up kept. The room I got my facial in had an air conditioning vent that was covered in black mold, and that is the first thing you notice while you're lying on your back, looking up. The door to the treatment room opened when I was not dressed and had to jump underneath the provided blanket. The aesthetician told me that door is broken and just keeps opening and scared the last customer because she also was undressed. Why has this not gotten fixed yet? Unacceptable! The gym facility looks nice. when you first walk in however the walls need paint and parts of the flooring in there are damaged. Housekeeping did not clean our room until 4 o'clock or later on most days. We would do activities during the day and either they had not been there yet or were there and we had to wait for them. Would be nice if they did that a little bit earlier in the day. Most of the people who work there are friendly and polite. Everyone greets you. As far as how the spa handled my situation, I would have hoped they would have taken care of our spa bill based on that, but they sent a lotion to my room and said thanks for understanding. The receptionist at the spa had asked for my contact number and told me someone would call or text me on it and they never did. Also, the spa will add a 25% gratuity to your treatment. I was told that can be adjusted based on preference. They never gave me that opportunity to even look at it just fully charged me without me even signing for my spa visit. The treatments themselves were decent, but I don't typically tip $50 on a 50 minute massage and was made to feel uncomfortable for questioning that. We decided to get some breakfast at the Bluewater restaurant on our list morning before heading to the airport. We ordered eggs, Benedict and a yogurt and waited over 20 minutes with no acknowledgment as to where our food was. After about 25 minutes, we asked the hostess and said we were getting concerned we would miss our transportation to the airport. She said she would go check, went into the kitchen, And never came out. We waited and waited with zero communication and then just ended up leaving because we had no time left. Sadly, the cons here added up and out weighed the pros and left a negative overall experience. We would not come back to this resort and it makes me question the integrity of the brand Ritz Carlton moving forward.

As always, I conducted a bunch of research, some say too much but they always ask me to find things for them... The name for the Hacienda Tamarindo is derived from Tamarindo trees on the property. If you go to Vieques there is a ferry they run all day. Ticket was two dollars. Vieques is a nature preserve so expect to see horses everywhere on the island. Oh yeah, roosters too. You need a rental car on the island. Well, at least I would recommend one and am glad I had one. There is no way to see the beaches without a vehicle. Hacienda Tamarindo will reserve your rental for you if you ask. Be aware that you may not want to arrive on the island before the rental company opens. If I'm ever on Vieques I will stay at the Hacienda Tamarindo.

When we woke up they had it ready to go in a cooler for us - breakfast is included, it not a buffet either, it's a nice sit down breakfast and they serve you - the pool is open 24/7. It has a cute fountain and again great views of the beach - each room comes with a hard side cooler you can take to the beach. - there is an honor bar where you can make your own drinks - you can rent snorkeling gear, beach chairs and umbrellas from them.

Unit D8 warning- Rigid Policies & Aug USVI weather don't mix!…read more We were all set to enjoy 3 days at Jennifer's unit (D8) booked through VRBO/Home Away. This unit has a strict cancellation policy (100% refund if cancelled 14 days in advance, 50% if 7 days out). The location and unit looked great, but unlucky for us Tropical Storm Grace blew up out of nowhere (well after the cancellation window) on the weekend we were to arrive on STT from STX. What we didn't realize is that even a minor storm like this one causes all inter-island travel to get cancelled - no ferry, sea plane or small aircraft in or out for a day and a half. By the time we could have arrived on St Thomas, we would have had one day left of our visit so we cancelled. While Jennifer was very responsive as we kept her updated on our situation, she was also very rigid in adhering to the no refund policy... including charging us for the club access fees and cleaning fees (even though we never set foot on the property, and presumably she didn't incur these expenses). VRBO suggested requesting "flexible dates" which essentially meant asking the owner for a credit (not refund) to rebook for later time, but she refused. We did not have travel insurance, but I do not believe it would have helped since it was a minor storm snd no evacuation was required. My advice: If you are island hopping during summer months when weather can change, avoid this property and any others with strict cancellation policies. Oh, and I'm personally not going to be using VRBO in the future as they offered no help for this kind of situation to either the owners or the travelers - we've had much better customer service with AirBnB.

The facilities are probably a little older and they don't provide stuff like turndown service/ fresh sheets/soap or shampoo etc. Also our Cable TV didn't work but they did have a ton of VHS tapes and DVDs in the living room On the other hand, if you brought your own stuff and are willing to "rough it" (not really) a little bit this place is perfect. The condos are huge.. as big as our apartment in Boston. It has central air, 2 bathrooms both with full showers. The apartment is stocked with towels, dishes, 2 TVs, a queen bed, and guest bed, 2 couches, a full kitchen with a gas stove a dishwasher and fridge. They even provide little charcoal grills out front if you want to make some burgers. The beach is about 50 feet from our room and they provide free chairs and beach towels. Water is crystal clear and the beach is nice white sand with little to no rocks. There is also a pool but we haven't been there yet. This place is about 1 mile from Red Hook which is where you can find a bunch of great bars and restaurants. One piece of advice- Crystal cove has no food/drink facilities so make sure you bring some stuff or be ready to head to red hook if you need some grub. You can either take the open air buses to get around- they drive by ever 15 min and cost ~4$ or you can rent a car. I would highly recommend the car because its much more convenient, you have AC, and you can explore the island a little bit. Don't worry, driving isn't as intimidating as it looks. P.S- you can request units- ours was D22-highly recommend!
