Two Sandals is a cute bed and breakfast located between Red Hook and Secret Harbor.
Arrival: We decided to have Jun pick us up at the airport for $60 (for a group of four). He arrived on time and we rode in his truck to the B&B. Check in was easy. We had a complimentary welcome drink of Presidente and rum punch (yummy)! During your stay you can get beers for $2.00 and mixed drinks for $3 during happy hour. We opted to order a case of water for $15 (we didn't have a car so this was convenient for us).
Location: From the B&B you can walk to the town of Red Hook in about 10 minutes. I would not advise walking to or from Red Hook in the dark as the roads are curvy, hilly and the drivers seem a little crazy. From here you can catch the ferry to St. John for $12/round trip. While in Red Hook we also checked out Duffy's Love Shack, which is a good time. We had dinner at the Fish Cafe, but I would skip this, service was slow and the food was way overpriced. There is a market in Red Hook, but the prices are INSANE. I'd stop at a local market if you have a car. If you don't have a car, it's nice to be able to grab a snack or bottle of wine in Red Hook but just know the prices are high.
You are also within walking distance to Secret Harbor beach. The beach is really nice and the snorkeling was pretty neat. The bar had great drinks and food. I recommend the bushwacker, coconut shrimp, and my favorite, the wahoo salad. Bring a flashlight if you stay at Secret Harbor after dark, the walk down the long driveway road is not lit.
We didn't have a car during our stay. We walked most of the time. If you take a Taxi from Red Hook back to the B&B at night, NEGOTIATE! Don't pay more than $2.50/per person.
Rooms: We stayed in Hermosa. The room was comfortable. It was furnished with a comfortable bed, mini refrigerator, two night stands, and a small TV. All rooms have a private bathroom. Our room had two sinks and a shower. The shower had a small window and it was nice to look outside. The balcony rooms have a sheer curtain over the sliding door and the other window is bright and sunny and doesn't have a curtain. I'm a bit of a light sleeper so I'm glad I brought my eye cover. You will hear traffic and chickens. I asked Jun if he had a fan so I could block out the noise and he came through. Once I had the fan, I was able to sleep soundly through the night.
Breakfast: Breakfasts consists of coffee and juice along with a small yogurt parfait with granola and jelly, a boiled egg, and fresh made pastry. The chocolate chip banana bread and savory scone were my favorites. The breakfasts were good, although a hot breakfast would be a nice addition in future.
Checkout: When we were checking out, we left our bags at the B&B and Jun picked us up in the town. This was nice because we were able to explore the island and not have to worry about dragging our bags around. (We managed to screw this up by ending up in the wrong town, no fault of Jun and Helen, and Jun found us and got us to the airport on time).
Overall we had a great stay at Two Sandals. Eating breakfast and drinking lots of coffee on the deck was awesome and relaxing. We also enjoyed spending time socializing and enjoying a glass of wine in the evening. Jun and Helen were friendly hosts. We were provided with information about activities, dining, and beaches on the island. I miss the island already and I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Two Sandals again. read more
