THE BEST POUTINE! I…read moregrew up around Quebecois family and now that I live out of the country, when I get the opp to have poutine, I can only wish it is within La Belle Province, and especially from this little gem of a resto! The portions are immense, so either make sure you're super hungry or sharing with someone else. The fries are spot-on cooked to perfection, the gravy is just right (not too salty, not too liquidy) and of course the best part is the fresh squeaky cheese curds! And they are not shy about how much of this yummy white cheese they put on the portions. If you have never had a real poutine made with real squeaky cheese curds, then you're just plain missing out. We opted for the original creation, altho this location does offer alllllll kinds of poutine creations. My brother is a big guy (6'4") and a big eater, but he could barely finish his large order. He lives in Western Canada and stated that "they don't know what they're doing out there!" after eating this traditional Quebecoise poutine! I had a small and it was just right for my appetite. The eat-in space is small but cozy and not meant for a lengthy stay. The area is kept clean and tidy. Parking is okay, but can be sparse since the adjoined parking lot is small-ish. Good thing they offer drive-thru service, which our family use and prefer. Their feedback is that this mode of take away is always fast, friendly and delicious. Wheelchair accessible spaces. Bathroom is clean. Kudos to the VERY kind and VERY efficient team members who were working when we popped into the resto. They were willing to try their best at speaking English with my brother. He appreciated that! Merci! Thank you! This is the best of 4 poutine places we've tried in during our visits to Quebec, and it is ranked as number 1 in our experience!

The place is big but the selections not so much. It is designed like what it is, a tourist venue. That said, this is a highly popular place for the locals to meet and greet and catch the contagion-of-excitement in a line up to buy the local specialty, Basque cheese curds (like strings) in a sealed bag of various sizes. For me, the cheese was inedible. It is loaded with salt and you cannot taste the fresh natural cheese because it is LOADED with way too much salt. Additionally, if you are an additive conscious individual and try to avoid unnecessary non-natural ingredients then you'll not be pleased to find "calcium chloride" added here also. We tried other cheeses offered for sale, bries. They were OK, not theirs, nothing special - but I noticed calcium chloride present also. Commercially available Brie in supermarches or supermarkets either in France or the U.S. do not have these needless additions normally. Again, for me, the salt issue in their specialty of the house cheese made it inedible for me and I feel this is more about the hype, the "sizzle", and not about quality substance. I cannot recommend personally at all.

First off it is an incredibly popular place, a meeting place, where locals get on a buying 'Conga Line' to snatch the next cheese offerings being replenished energetically by staff. The most talked about was the bags of Basque "cheese curds" a varietal specialty - so I bought plenty of plain and one bag mixed with garlic and green herbs (note this bag was the better choice actuall). The unfortunate thing here is they use the unnecessary additives of "Calcium Chloride" salts (clearly marked on their plastic label) and may also use "Titanium Dioxide" to give it the (super) white color (this latter point I cannot vouchsafe for as a French Label of ingredients and price per Kg was superimposed on the sealed bag but I thought I saw it). In any event given the unbelievable amount they sell additives of any type are simply not necessary at all! Now, about the salt! The cheese strings (curds) are absolutely LOADED with it! Like a hot dog drenched in saline solution! Hey, I like salt too, but there is SO much of it you aren't eating cheese but like a bag of potato chips you aren't eating potatoes either, but salted fried chips more often than not. Same applies here. The natural aspect of farmers cheese is lost in a salt drench. We also bought some brie there not theirs, it was OK no complaints. Except once again't "Calcium Chloride" was added. I mean you can buy "President's" Brie or "ile de France" and have none of this in a local supermarket- here or in France! This place is all "hat no cattle" for this transplanted Texan - and as a cheese lover absolutely not worth you time or your Canadian or American dollars.

You don't want to be let down with mediocre or sub mediocrity in terms of food. This place really hit the mark. Like a total home run! Firstly it's a cracking good bakery with fresh artisanal bread. Secondly they do very high quality coffee. Thirdly they have sandwiches, soup and other great lunch items. My lunch I selected a seafood soup. It was rich, not salty and deliciously home made. Also as my ancestors must have come from the sea I had a Gaspesian smoked mackerel sandwich. It was one of the best sandwiches I've had in quite some time. Like blew my mind how good it was. It was tiny morsels of smoked fresh fish, thin apple slices. Shredded cabbage and a very nice light dressing. Holy macaroni it was amazing. I'd never think I'd have a smoked mackerel sandwich but I may try to replicate it at home. To round off the meal I ordered a capucinno and it was totally on point. Creamy. Piping hot and strong yet not bitter. To bring back to the grand ville I brought back two loaves of bread. Crispy, crunchy and soft in the centre. You would think a cafe like this would be in the Mille end Montreal or on Ave McGuire in QC or in SOHO in NYC but it's wonderfully amazing! When I Think of the options of coming here or eating at a place like St Hubert it's clear in my mind where I'd rather spend my money!

English: Chocolat Favoris is better. While the soft serve here has a better consistency and is more luscious, the chocolate at Chocolat Favoris is so much richer and thicker. I do LOVE Aux Bienfaits, though, and they have incredible incredible cakes/desserts as well. They're usually pretty nice, but can get annoyed with you if you take too long to order or get confused. I have to give HIGH honors to their maple soft serve and their milk chocolate AND salted caramel chocolate coatings. Also here's a tip to get more chocolate: ask for your soft serve in a bowl, but ask for the size ice cream you want in a cup one size UP. This allows the soft serve to be fully coated with chocolate. If you don't want to ask for a cup, you can also ask for your cone double dipped.
