There you can pick where in the room you will be standing as the spots are painted on the ceiling. A bunch of us decided to take a lower body class so I was preparing to just do a bunch of lunges and hurting... lol The class started and the music began. The instructor took us through a warm up routine and then began to explain all the stations. There were 5-6 stations and we were to rotate between them. Yes, lounges were on the menu! Man, I was getting my butt kicked! each station had certain movements that focused on a certain body part and yes, I was sweating and crying lol. This lasted for about 45 minutes, once we were done with the stations twice, we rolled into a cool down period and eventually the class ended. What I liked about the class is that there was constant movement and you didn't get board with the movement. If I kept going to this class I know I would be in waaay better shape than I am but unfortunately, I don't live in town. I would try it out if you are visiting of living there. Its not too huge and intimate enough that you aren't lost in the crowd.

Like many people, I had put on more than a few extra pounds and was pretty unhappy with how I looked and felt. Before coming to Basecamp fitness I had pretty much no experience with group fitness classes, strength training, and was a novice at anything and everything. I didn't even know how to do a burpee! The Basecamp instructors including Zak, helped create a safe, judgment free zone, that I wasn't expecting, while teaching me proper form and technique. These 35 minute classes, with a 10 minute core block are fast paced, fun, and are over before you know it! My favorite days are lower body day (Tuesday/Friday) and full body day (Wednesday/Saturday). More than 2 years later, and over 400 classes, I couldn't be happier with my progress. A huge thank you to the Basecamp instructors, front desk, and manager for your continuous help and support. I couldn't have done this without you. I'm proud to be a part of the Basecamp community! Tips for newcomers- Stick with it! If you need help, just ask! The instructors are there to help you achieve your goals, and teach you proper form!

I often work out with classpass, so I've tried many of the fitness classes in Minneapolis. Basecamp…read moreis definitely my favorite. I can't say enough good things about the classes here. In 45 minutes, you get cardio, strength/HIIT, and core. The music is stellar, and because it's all timed (one minute on the bike, 10 second transition, one minute of an exercise), I don't have to pay attention to counting my reps and can sing along instead (lol!). You also only do each exercise once without any repetition so if you hate a move, you're done with it quickly. It's a bit chaotic, but despite that, the coaches do an excellent job of correcting form during the strength portions. Don't take my word for it, go check it out for yourself!

Once it ended ended, I just collapsed onto the floor. I was nearly out of breath, sweaty as f***, and my lower back and shoulders felt like sushi chef deep tissue rubbed them with wasabi. Holy crap. This workout totally sucked, but..... but..... I. CAN'T. GET. ENOUGH! Every time I finish a workout at CrossFit Minneapolis, I feel like my body actually accomplished something. It's a refreshing, and one that's significantly more vigorous than the types of movements found at a traditional gym. No Preacher Curls or lat pulls, yo! Also, the results are almost shocking. I paid a hefty fee for an X number of years at one only to reach a plateau of physical fitness mediocrity. I've been at CrossFit Minneapolis for a year and a half, and I'm so much stronger. For example, my squat has gone up 200 lbs! Aside from WODs, CrossFit Minneapolis also has Olympic lifting classes that occur on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. I love learning and performing variations of squats and clean-and-jerks, thanks to their awesome coaches! Sure, there are tons of CrossFit critics. But with the proper instruction (like at CrossFit Minneapolis), it can be a really effective (and fun) program! If you're looking for a new gym, consider joining this one. It's still one of the best decisions of my life.

During class, they also dole out individual attention and take the time to be encouraging with a gentle nudge toward better form or a compliment. I enjoy the mix of barre, yoga and HIIT classes. I found them because I asked a friend who loves dance where the best place was for beginner level hip hop and then grabbed an unlimited membership during a deal. Best choice I've made for my health in 2019. Straightline is a great place to meet new friends, and I do exactly that almost every single time I attend a class. Every class I take is challenging but modifiable. The variety is great. Even though I came for hip hop, I love 305 Fitness (think cardio clubbing), yoga, piloxing (pilates and boxing!!!!!), pilates and barre, YOU NAME IT. The app to sign up the classes is super easy to navigate and gives you an option to add the appointment to your calendar when you sign up. Love that. The studio is also very active on social media and responds to any questions in a timely manner. I am here at least 3 times a week and tell anyone I can how great it is. Join their email list to be in the know for their events and special offerings - worth it even without a 'deal!' This community gives me something to look forward to throughout the day when normally in the winter I'd stay home, holed up in the dark. I'm not saying Straightline is curing my seasonal depression (hello Minnesota winter) but it certainly helps!! The two things that I'd change: the bathrooms are downstairs and there's nowhere to shower after a sweaty class. Literally the only two downfalls of this studio. If you're still reading this review, CHECK THEM OUT! I can't recommend Straightline Dance Fitness enough.
