My wife and I recently visited Times Up! and we had a really good time. Most of the rooms at Times Up! required 4 or more participants, and since it was just the two of us, our only choice was the Room 555 escape room. Overall, I thought the room was a lot of fun. The moderator was nice, and the room had some good puzzles. My only complaints would be: 1) The text-to-speech computer program used to present the story and clues was a little awkward and clunky, and it definitely made it harder to immerse myself in the scenario. It'd be significantly better if a real person was reading the dialogue. Also, it felt like the background story could have been more interesting, although the clues were fun to figure out. 2) One of the clues was meant to be locked and they left it unlocked, so the moderator had to come in during the scenario and re-lock it for us. Not a big deal, but it did disrupt the event a bit. Overall, I liked Times Up! and would definitely come back. read more

As someone who has done a lot of escape rooms, Times Up! is a decent place to visit and is especially the right type of escape room venue to take people for the first time. I've completed 3 of the rooms at this location and they are all fun and great for groups. However, the quality of Times Up! is simply not as good as other escape rooms that I've been to. Without getting into the details about the rooms or their solutions, my biggest gripe is about the quality of the rooms. The decorations definitely feel antiquated, and the rooms themselves could certainly have more personality to them. I've been to places where the themes go all out and have some pretty unique decorations. While the rooms to each have a theme, some props are clearly cheap. In some instances, doors don't open completely and locks are a bit finnicky to unlock. Plus, the backstory of the room isn't really told by the gamemaster. It's told by a text-to-speech AI on a fuzzy screen. Their speech isn't even free flowing, it's super choppy and odd. As a positive, I love how there are different themed rooms with varying difficulties. I've managed to escape each of the rooms I've attempted and I've always felt satisfied with the team performance after each room. The gamemasters have always been kind and helpful when we ask for hints. And although sometimes the execution isn't perfect, I can appreciate the attempt to try and create unique puzzles. Overall, Times Up! has some redeeming qualities to it that make this place worth trying. If you're looking for the best of the best, there are some other really amazing spots, but if you're looking for just a fun activity on a rainy day then this is the place! read more

Times Up! was a great place for an escape room. I will say that I haven't done a lot of escape rooms, and previous reviews mention that the decor seemed outdated. I will say that while the decor may have been outdated, I didn't notice because I was too busy trying to escape from the room. If you are in the Cary area and want to do a team building exercise or outing with friends, I think you'll have a ton of fun here. read more

What a great experience! We went as a family with kids aged 10-12 and had a great time. The puzzles and mysteries were perfect for a mixed age group (Arabian Knights) and the clues requested were super helpful. Bryson was a great host! Yikes! Within the first five minutes I realize that this place was a dump. The walls were done with plywood and the rest of everything was pretty much Styrofoam. The worst part is that triggerpoints in the room didn't even work and we would get them right for several minutes until an employee realize that we had the right answer yet it wasn't working they would have to come in mess with it themselves and it still didn't work. Instead of opening up a lock they would just have to tell us what was inside since they themselves cannot get it opened. Outside of that the flow of the Game was really flawed and boring. Nothing was well done and even the markers that they used for some of the clues were faded markers I say that just to show you how cheaply this was made. One clue in particular was so annoying because it was supposed to be a word and literally no human ever could read that word. Whoever owns that place very clearly knows that it's not running well and that the clues are not Legible, however they don't do anything to fix it because you can tell they only care about getting you and making your money and they don't care about if you have a good time or not. read more

We had a blast doing the Room 555 experience. The atmosphere was fun and spooky, and the puzzles were just challenging enough. Audrey is super friendly and accommodating...I messed up our booking but she allowed us to reschedule and to come in on her off day to still do the room. We went to The Escape Game in Orlando and absolutely loved it! It was very challenging but we made it out in time working together. Our kids have been dying to do this again. While in Cary we thought we would try Times Up. We were very disappointed. The room was very small, dimly lit and hot. There was a lot of math and formulas to this room. There was no other rhyme or reason to this room. We could have never done it without many clues and help from the employee. We did not enjoy this at all. The owner was very nice but this was not up to par with other places like it. I still love the concept and will try another establishment. But I will pass on this one and just count it as money read more

Our group of four went into this escape room having experienced others prior and loved the concept. From the website, we selected the Bank Vault Escape. The description sounded interesting, and had a lot of potential. Upon arrival, the waiting area was nice and comfortable, and the two people running the place were very personable. The other group scheduled with us during our time slot was late, and once there, all 4 proceeded to head to the bathroom, further delaying our start time. We had dinner plans immediately after, so it would have been nice had they adhered to the late policy on the website. The room itself that we were escaping from was really small, definitely too small for a group of 8. Without giving the specifics of the room away to other potential escapers, I have to say it was just poorly done overall. The décor of the room showed very little effort. Most other escape rooms involve a transition between multiple rooms, but this was just the one. The process of finding the clues was incredibly repetitive and many of them were honestly a bit of a stretch for someone to figure out (we've been very successful in others), while other clues were just lazy. The most enjoyable escape rooms we had done before had a linear progression through the clues, which was not the case here. Again, you did the same process 18 times before you could move to the next thing, and many of the clues you found early on wouldn't get used until further in the game. We left pretty upset with the whole experience, especially given the steep cost of $25 per person (a normal price for this sort of thing, but I can't justify this price for what we got). Had we not already been late to our dinner plans, we probably would have asked for a partial refund. If you're looking for something challenging and fun to do with friends, definitely try an escape room, just maybe somewhere else. read more
