We had so much fun! It was actually pretty cool and this is my first ever escape room, but I highly enjoyed the academia vibe of the one we went to. For some reason, I thought it would be kind of horror based, but just excited to see that it's more clues and sleuthing than thriller. The employees were very nice too! There were four people in total that came with for this event, and the owner was very kind to let us change our original times due to night shifts. We were looking forward to the Tobacco Road one but the host didn't mention it was meant for very large groups. He told us after we didn't finish that usually it was 10 to 14 people who did it together (!). It would have been nice to know. We have done escape rooms all over the country (solved all but this one and one other), and this one was one of the more confusing than others. Also the host was somewhat unfriendly and unclear on the instructions. The building was nice and the set up was good. read more

On a lark, a friend got a few of us together for a trip to BCE on New Year's Day. We did the space themed one, where we had to discover what happened to the previous crew of a moon colony and escape before the self-destruct went off. It was a 7 out of 10, which is pretty tough, but together, we got out with 16 minutes to spare! Angie was a fun guide, telling us the rules and gotchas and weaving a nice setup story. This was a first room for only one in the party, but I loved it! I've done a previous room here years ago with family, as well as two others with other local companies, and this was truly interesting. I highly recommend Bull City Escape for a fun event with a group of 3-6. More than that would probably get too crowded. The price was reasonable ($100), considering the writing, materials, and props they had. read more

Brought the fam here for my mom's birthday and we did the "A Study in Murder" room. We all had a blast. Navigating there was easy and there was plenty of parking. It's on the third floor and there is an elevator. They have the classic photo op area in the lobby. If you need to use the bathroom during the game there is a key to leave. Ben was our game master and he was so kind and funny. He gave us a warm welcome and explained everything for those who haven't done an escape room before. During the game he was helpful giving us clues to lead us in the right direction. The room itself was great quality and genuinely challenging. I've been to a handful and I think this room was probably the most difficult I have done. We did not escape but got fairy close with only a few puzzles remaining. He said the success rate was about 30% for our room. Definitely check the website and read the descriptions throughly to figure out what room is best for your group. There are plenty of options. Also very random but our room had two chairs in it and my dad is disabled and can't stand for long periods so I really appreciated him having the option to sit as most rooms I've seen don't have any. We are definitely coming back to check out some more of their rooms soon! read more

Went here for my first ever escape room and I was certainly impressed! We did the Enchanted Forest with a group of 6 and made it out with about 10-15 minutes to spare. There were plenty of activities for everyone to be involved and it was challenging enough to keep us thinking the whole time. Cool escape room ! This is probably the fourth escape room I have done in different cities. I really liked bullshit escape and thought the staff was great. I think what I liked the most was that the puzzles were not too easy. In fact, it was five minutes before we found the first puzzle and the lunar landing room we did. Some of our party was late and some didn't show, but he was very patient and kind and still allowed us to have a full, enjoyable experience. I visited this location with two other people on a Sunday afternoon. - We did the space themed room. It accommodated a 3 person party fairly well. Many puzzles don't require multitasking, so parties with more than 3 people will have idle participants. - The room itself was sparse; all the walls were gray and there weren't a lot of props. I understand we're stuck on a space ship, but lighting and little details can go a long way to make a room felt more atmospheric. read more

My girlfriend and I did the "Lunar Lockdown" room. This was her 2nd Escape Room, and I have done somewhere over 20. I have previously done both of the other current rooms Bull City Escape has to offer: "Enchanted Kingdom" and "A Study in Murder". My memory is hazy on "A Study in Murder" but I believe this room falls at the bottom as far as my enjoyment, with "Enchanted Kingdom" being at the top. We escaped with 6 or so minutes left I believe, having used 2/3 of our hints but receiving 2 "freebies". The room was rated a 7/10 and the easiest room they currently have open, I think it is closer to a 6 but am not splitting hairs. I have done at least 2 other space station themed escape rooms and as far as the theming goes this one unfortunately missed the mark a bit for me. Objects in the room were glaringly obvious as clues which is a bit of a surprise given my experience with their other rooms. We did require a hint to get started as after about 8 minutes we struggled to find the first big object we needed to get going, but afterwards we did a pretty good job of making our way through puzzles. The most disappointing part for us was that part of a puzzle involved giving us a photograph of someone in the room showing us exactly how to solve it. Given the 'surface' of where we were I think this could have been accomplished in a much better/more thematic way. Puzzles were relatively run-of-the-mill, and while there were no red herrings necessarily there was a sort of "gotcha" moment which luckily didn't feel too intrusive or sideline-y to matter overall. This room is totally do-able with just two people, the only issue became when things were not able to be transported between areas and the only writing pad was attached somewhere else. Overall we really enjoyed the room. It wasn't too much of a challenge or overly complex if that is what you are looking for. It scratched the itch I had to do a well-made room, as I can always expect from Bull City Escape. However, I would recommend trying either "Enchanted Kingdom" or "A Study in Murder" if you are only doing one room at this location. read more

We absolutely enjoyed our first time at Bull City Escape! We were a party of 4 (fun double date idea!) and we finished Lunar Lockdown with ample time and just 1 hint. We reserved our timeslot online and check-in was a breeze. The staff were very helpful, the hint system worked conveniently. The room (no spoilers!) was so well-made and the puzzles were fun and challenging but not impossible. Since we did so well, the game master suggested stepping it up to a higher difficulty room next time. They currently have 5 different-themed escape rooms. Lunar lockdown was 7/10 in difficulty rating. Been to 3 escape rooms in Durham, and loved Bull City the most so far! Highly recommended 1 hour full of fun! read more

This was so much fun! Perfect for a group of friends, both old and new; this is a great way to get some group bonding to happen. I went with a few other friends a while ago and enjoyed it. There was a lot of different "puzzles" for everyone in the group to put together, and no one is ever bored and left out-- there's always something to find. More recently, Bull City Escape also hosted a modified form of their escape games at the Washington Duke Inn for an event with a banquet hall full of Duke Med Alumni. It was very, very well organized, and they made great use of the venue. I would highly recommend both going to their location with some friends for an escape game as well as for booking them to organize a fun activity with a larger group! read more

The absolute most fun I've had sober!! So, this is the first time I've done anything like this & I'm so happy I did. Walking in I obviously had no idea what was in store for us. As soon as we walked in we were greeted immediately by Alice who was approachable & friendly. She gave us the low down on local foodie spots while we waited for the rest of our team. This is a really fun group activity, especially for people who like to solve puzzles. Me and 7 other friends tried the Murder Mystery room, and we were all determined to get out of there as soon as possible. With a lot of great teamwork and communication, we were able to get out of the room (in record time, they told us!). I've done one other "break out of the room" elsewhere, and some of my other friends had done them as well. I'll have to say that this one was very well put together - the room was decorated nicely, it all followed the story line rather appropriately, and I liked all the little details that went into designing the room and clues. 5 stars on the story line, decor of the room, and tying it all in together. The pricing is fair, comparatively speaking. My major qualm was that I felt like the room was a little too easy to break out of. Some of the clues felt a little too obvious. I'm not trying to sound cocky or anything, but I kind of wish it were a little more challenging - after all, each team is given 3 "hints" that they can ask for via walkie talkie. Perhaps if certain rooms were different levels of difficulty based on what each group wanted to go for, that would cater to people who wanted more of a challenge. Nevertheless, it was a really fun experience, and I think all of my friends had fun too - we talked about it for a while afterwards. I would highly recommend going with a group of people you know, instead of going with a small group and running the risk of being paired up with another small group of strangers. We did their Enchanted Forrest escape room which they rated a 8/10 in difficulty. For reference I have done around a dozen or so escape rooms. The puzzles in this room were mostly locks and for the most part intuitive. We escaped with nearly 17 minutes remaining and used 1 of 3 clues. I personally would have rated the difficulty as more of a 5 or 6. A major pro to this place is that all the rooms are private when you book and you don't have to worry about getting paired with a bunch of teenagers. The price point is also very reasonable for what it is. read more

The room is hard enough to make it a challenge, but not hard enough to make it frustrating. As a group of 4, we escaped with 8 minutes to spare! Went here with the missus on a spur of the moment Durham staycation. We did the Lunar Landing room. The two of us were paired with a father-son team, so it was four of us total. I won't give anything away, but the room itself was really well designed. Lots of puzzles, and they were phased well to have some things useful of front, some things useful later on. None of it was impossible or required huge leaps in logic. We just barely completed the room, but I think that's the best way to do it. Apparently the Lunar Landing room is the easiest one too, it was plenty challenging for the four of us. We would highly recommend. The puzzles are interesting and engaging and don't repeat. The room itself is well put together and give a great sense of them. Our guide Keesh (sorry if I misspelled your name!) was very upbeat and fun and helped make the experience better. Bull city escape room was amazing! I had the opportunity to do the enchanted escape room which was a level 8 difficulty. This was my first escape room and i was nothing but overly satisfied. The employees were very kind and helpful. There is no doubt in my mind i will be coming back. It was a safe and friendly environment that made you feel completely comfortable with locking yourself in a room for an hour haha. The room i did was very creative and i can't wait to try another room! I didn't think it would be as intricate as it was, but it just made it more fun!!! I love that they encourage group photos. This review is long overdue! I can write a book about how wonderful my experience was but to save you all time reading, I'll highlight the things that stood out the most! - I was in talks with Alice for weeks regarding coming up with a creative way to propose to my girlfriend - She accommodated my very short notice request to meet me at the shop at 7:00am (BEFORE) they opened to go over some logistical details - She made the card that I used as a prop to propose to my girlfriend "Maham Zafar, To Escape, Say Yes!" and placed it in a super creative spot in the room - She thoughtfully thought of the pictures afterwards and made a sign that said "She said YES!!" and hand picked flowers which she turned into a bouquet - We chose the last appointment time of the day and she stayed open for an extra 45 minutes to allow us the time to organically relish in the beautiful experience without feeling like we were being rushed - We even found out that some employees that weren't even scheduled that day, came in to watch the magic unfold! Again, I can go on and on with everything Bull City Escape Room did but I don't think Yelp will give me enough characters! This was hands down the BEST experience I ever had in my entire life and that is LARGELY due to all the extra efforts they took to make this the most special night of our lives (She saying "YES" definitely helped too) haha :) This establishment gets MAXIMUM stars for EVERY category IMAGINABLE! :) read more

Amazing escape room! We have done several escape rooms in NC and this one is definitely one of our favorites. We chose to do the murder mystery room with a 9/10 difficulty and made it out with 10 min to spare! There were numerous puzzles to solve of varying difficulty and new locks that we had not used before. The room was large and clean. At first it seemed that nothing could be hidden since it was so neat but we quickly realized that was not the case. There were so many challenging, fun puzzles and objects that it kept all 4 of us busy. You get 3 hints for the room which you can ask for via a walkie talkie and we ended up needing to ask for one hint. The employee running our game, Paul, was enthusiastic, helpful, and explained the rules clearly. What makes this escape room stand out from the others that we have done is that all of the bookings are private. This is so much better since you can have the room to your group only instead of having to work with strangers. We cannot wait to return to try some of the other rooms! read more

When I was invited to a Mystery Night, I had no idea what to expect. I went begrudgingly. WOW, such a super fun night. You need a party of 8 to do Mystery Night. They put you in a locked room with your group of 8 and give you the rundown of what mystery you need to solve. You are locked in but they do give you a key if you need to get out, but they also monitor you the whole time and provide clues (only 3) if you should need to use them. In this room are clues that you need to solve this mystery/murder. It's tough and you need your team to help. We had so much fun doing this. You get 60 minutes to try and figure this out. We were close to figuring it out but we didn't in the time allowed. It didn't matter because we had a blast doing that. I wish Reno would get something like this. Thank you Bull City! read more

We only had 4 people but, with the very helpful hints, almost made it out. There were a lot of puzzles to solve at once, which kept everyone busy so no one was just standing around (this has happened at other escape rooms). The staff is very friendly and helpful. A group of five of us did the 90s themed room and had a total blast. When you first go in the room, it doesn't look ALL that impressive, but in a very short time, you get completely immersed in the game. As others have said, you don't need to know anything about the 90s to solve the puzzles. The clues are tricky to solve without being overly frustrating. We didn't get out of the room in time (almost!) but weren't disappointed because we had so much fun. The guy working there that night was great: enthusiastic and friendly.
