Dr. Horowitz and his wife Peggy have taken care of my family and several of my close friends for…read morethe past 20+ years. His broad scope of expertise, humanity, tact, and sense of humor have made a lasting positive impact on my life. Like most of his other patients, I can say without hesitation that I consider him and Peggy to be a part of my extended family. I will never forget receiving an unprompted call from Dr. H late in the evening many years ago after they learned of a sudden health crisis that my parent suffered. Thankfully, my parent's crisis eventually resolved; but that brief check-in from Dr. H touched me deeply. I knew that I was not alone and that he genuinely cared. Unheard of in modern medicine, when you call their office after-hours and connect with the emergency line, the phone rings at Dr. H's house. They trust their patients not to abuse that access; but the small number of times that my family needed it, Peggy and Dr. H were on the other end of the line, providing useful information and reassurance, even at 4AM. My experience as a patient of Dr. H's played no small role in my own journey towards becoming a physician. I often find myself trying to recall one of his totally unique and pithy one-liner jokes when I need to break the ice with a new patient. Family practices like this one are virtually impossible to find these days. The world would be a much better place if everyone had a medical team like Dr. Horowitz and Peggy.

All I can say is WOW!! I've never had such amazing service when it comes to doctor visits. From…read morethe first moment of contacting the office, Peggy was soooo nice and sweet. With covid and how things are run differently now, communication is KEY! Peggy sent me all the health forms that needed to be completed in a timely manner via email. She was wonderful at responding to my emails, and she made things so easy! They went out of their way to see me in person in a really short notice as my visit required necessary clearance for my nursing program. They only have certain days for appointments but she made an exception for me as my work schedule conflicted with their in-person office visits. Peggy also sent me my labs on a Saturday as I requested if she could send it to me as soon as they receive it.. they are closed on Saturdays and she did that for me (I am so grateful!). I also want to say that I drove from Monterey Park to Dr. Horowitz's office on a Friday during the time that there is so much traffic (traffic alone in this area if you already know is hideous) but I would do it again! Thank you so much Peggy and Dr. Horowitz!!

I was interested in seeing this doctor as my new primary care provider, but my experience calling the office was incredibly disappointing. The first woman I spoke to began taking my information but was impatient and didn't ask why I was calling. Then, without warning, she abruptly hung up. When I called back, a gentleman answered and resumed the intake process. He commented, "Oh, you're the patient," and asked a few more detailed questions. When I explained that I had just started my insurance plan and was looking for a primary care doctor, he asked if I was currently taking any medications. I said no--and his response was simply, "New patients have a 2-3 month wait." I was shocked. It felt dismissive and made me wonder if I had done something wrong. He assured me that this was their standard policy, but the interaction felt cold and transactional--like because I wasn't bringing in ongoing prescription revenue, I wasn't a priority. If this is indeed their policy, they should clearly indicate that they are not currently accepting new patients in a timely manner or post a notice about the long wait. It would save people time and frustration. The whole experience left a bad impression.

This is my first review ever...and I'm sad that its a negative one. But hopefully it will save some…read moresouls. I am actually not sure that this is a real medical clinic. I would assume that there are certain standards to adhere to in order to use that title. Now, I want to point out that I do not have unrealistic, super high expectations. I have been to the free clinic in Hollywood, where many homeless individuals go, and it's far nicer than this place. I was excited to finally get my medical insurance through Covered California. I got Anthem Blue Cross - whom I am currently on the phone, on hold with, in order to change my primary care physician (27min and counting). I first called Dr Coting's office a couple of days ago to make an appointment. The lady who answered was not very friendly. She told me they do walk-ins only. She said they open at 10am. At 10 they opened, but the girl told me that the doctor usually does not come in until around 11:30. I signed in and then went for a walk and some tea in the near by Echo Park. Really beautiful park by the way!! Wow I was impressed! I got back at 11:30 and they told me the doctor was not in yet. I picked the least filthy chair. I waited. I wondered who would paint graffiti on a trash can in a doctors office. Or maybe they found it outside on the street? Jerry Springer on the ancient TV seemed appropriate. I waited. I noticed that they still had 4th of July decorations up, I guess there is no point taking them down when it's almost that time again! At least its not super packed in here I thought. Eventually a nurse called me in. She took my weight and height. Then she directed me into a small room. I was taken aback by what I saw. In this tiny room was a filthy brown examination table with writing and scribbles all over it. I couldn't even believe it. (See pictures!). The nurse asked me some general questions. "When was your last menstrual period?" I said about two weeks ago. (Its May 12th) She said "So May 7th?" I said "Sure that's fine". She then asked me why I was there, I told her it was for my acne problems. She asked me a couple more times. And then she asked me how to spell acne. She struggled to take my blood pressure. Didn't seem very experienced. I was sent back to the waiting area. The doc eventually rolled in at about 12:10. He was friendly enough, but did not seem thrilled to be there. He didn't really look at my acne. He did check my throat though, with one of them wooden spatula thingies! And then he threw it on the floor next to the closed trash can!! I almost laughed. He didn't bother to pick it up of course. He also had some nasty stains on his white robe. He is referring me to a dermatologist, which may or may not be approved, I guess we'll see! Oh and also they do not take cards, only cash, another reason I'm not sure if it's a real business?? Anyways, point of the story, don't go here. Thant's all. ;)

I'm planning on taking my dad here who is visiting from Europe. Thank you, Echo Park Family Clinic for serving your community so well.
