Their chicken was soft and juicy (even breast meat), their soup was savory, and their rice was just perfectly steamed. How far we've come from that first date. I was missing the ginger sauce so I decided to eat here today, and I'm being kind when I say I was mildly disappointed. The chicken was still good, although we were served white meat when I explicitly said I wanted dark. The soup was still good, but the rice was overcooked and soggy. Even the roast pork which used to be juicy and crunchy was dry. The quality of service has also deteriorated but that's something that I think I'm sensitive to, so it may not be true for others. At the very least, the ginger sauce was still the same is before.

I've come to love many Singaporean dishes (And even attempted to recreate them back here in the Philippines), so I was really excited when Wee Nam Kee landed in the Philippines! Their quality used to be great! People even lined up just to taste the famous Hainanese Chicken Rice that was already making its rounds in the Philippine foodie market (Boon Tong Kee!). Don't get me wrong, the Hainanese Chicken of Wee Nam Kee was alright. Not much change in the flavor but what really disappointed me was the sudden decline of their famous cereal prawn. They used to be big, and juicy and flavorful but then we ate there just recently, the prawns were sad, had not much meat to them. I think in one order we only had 4 or 5 prawns? And the rest of it were just heads, all drowning in cereal. All in all a terrible death for one of my favorite dishes from Singapore. Ah, well. On to the next one, I suppose.

I ordered the Kung Pao tofu and the set meal of bagoong rice with vegemeat, but they were out on the tofu dish. This was good as the bagoong rice platter was massive. I've traveled around the Philippines and haven't had many vegan dishes but for the occasional tokwat (tofu) dish. So to get a dish that was veganized was pretty amazing. Somehow they were able to make this traditional dish minus the shrimp paste. Its slightly sweet and yet savory taste had me going back for more. The green mango on top was the clincher for me. It was so good and affordable. I definitely recommend this place to any vegan, vegetarian and don't worry carnivores. There's plenty on the menu for you, too.

101 Hawker Food House - Vegan laksa! Super flavorful & creamy. Meat is replaced with tofu, and the fresh bean sprouts add great contrast to the chewy glass noodles!

When I went here…read morefor the very first time, I was totally clueless and I didn't know what to expect from Singaporean food. I am always willing to try out different Asian cuisines so I thought it would be an absolutely wonderful idea to go here to check out the different types of dishes that they have to offer. The first time I went to Sentosa, I immediately noticed that almost all of the dishes they serve have curry in them. I am not particularly fond of curry or anything spicy so I was a little bit reluctant to order. I just wanted to slowly get out of the restaurant without ordering, but my friend was too shy to move from her seat. I had no choice so I just ordered their Singaporean Roast Chicken. After sitting for about 15 minutes, my food finally came. My mouth immediately began to drool as the waiter brought our order. It looked absolutely amazing! I could already tell just by looking at it that I'd be full by the end of the meal. The roasted chicken was so soft and tender that it could literally melt in your mouth. Good thing my friend stopped me from leaving Sentosa. It would have been such a big loss if I just left without even tasting their food.

He keeps on insisting on taking me to places that serve spicy food, and I keep exerting my dominance (heh) because I do not want my mouth burning from a thousand different spices. Sometimes, though, I let him have his way, which is how we ended up eating at Sentosa. I was reluctant to order since everything on the menu seemed spicy, but I finally caved and ordered their laksa with a whole lot of rice on the side to deaden the heat. It turned out to be a moot point since you can ask the staff to lay off the spices, which made my laksa oh-so-delicious. Ah, good help is so hard to find nowadays so when you do, never let them go.
