It was after labor day so the city of Port Austin itself seemed pretty dead and it was a little too chilly for a proper beach visit and we were too zonked from the aforementioned wedding to embark on a kayak trip so we decided to take a stroll around the harbor. I will admit I have no vocabulary for ports and harbors and boaty things so I'm not sure if my descriptions make sense BUT I liked everything about this area. There's a great boardwalk that we enjoyed strolling to and at the very end we sat for a bit watching the birds hanging out on the rock walls further out into the water. Around the harbor you'll find most of "downtown" of Port Austin so parking in the harbor's lot is a solid jumping off point for exploring not only the waterfront but also the town. Their Michigan gov site also says that you can watch both the sunset and the sunrise from here and I definitely am making a note of that for next time!

After the installation, when we took our boat out for the first time we noticed the fuel gauge was not working. This was not a big deal; he must have forgotten to rewire it. When we brought it back to have it rewired, he noticed a fuel leak. We asked him if he could fix it and he said yes. After having the boat for a week, he called us and said he could get the part but we would have to put the part on because he didn't want to be responsible if something happened. We thought that was absurd so we picked it up - and to our amazement he charged us $100. We took our boat to reputable Rinker dealer and he fixed it within one hour for only $90. Obviously this establishment does not have insurance and likes to rip people off. Someone else told us not to go there for boat work because they had been disappointed too, but we didn't listen to them. Hopefully you'll take our advice.

The young gentleman at the dock helped park when necessary and filled up the gas when needed. Came with a full tank of gas that lasted several rides over multiple days.
