This company essentially held my friends belongings for months, demanding more and more money for 'storage fees', even though they were the ones who kept having issues and kept not sending their items. This left my friend and her family without anything for nearly 5 months, with her kids sleeping on the floor, and completely unequipped for winter. This could have been handled in a much better way, with clear communication, rather then the endlessly misleading promises used as a way to extract more money over and above the agreed upon amount. read more

Great service up until your money is in hand. I moved from Calgary to Victoria in April 2022. Several antiques and 1 modern piece of furniture where damaged. The moving and storage company that Tippet uses in Victoria (Hendra) took the pieces away to repair at the time of the move. I wrote a detailed letter to Tippet to inform them of the poor service and all the things that went wrong. THEY called ME to say I should put in a claim. I put together all the paper work and answered emails when they had questions. I was not informed that if I wanted to make a claim I would need to hold on to the items and not allow them to be repaired by Tippet. After supplying the receipt for one chair worth $2500 and website evaluations of the rest of the furniture I was offered $450 from the $10,000 I claimed (justly claimed, I'm not trying to beef up the prices). I was told that I should have had a professional assessor in to give a valuation of the furniture before they were taken away. I did mention that I wasn't given that opportunity, one piece didn't even come off the truck as it was dropped and damaged so they just took it. My grandmother's bridge lamp cannot be repaired. I have an antique cane backed settee that cannot be repaired. $450 is like a slap in the face. A huge disappointment doing business with this company and I chose them because I thought they had 95 years in the business and a good reputation. The boys came in as scheduled and they did an excellent job. During the move and during a courtesy follow-up visit, your people have shown courtesy, professionalism, attention to details and a positive attitude. They were efficient, punctual and did not cut corners. They were informed on the policies and procedures and responded to questions when needed. I want to thank you for helping me during this stressful time for our family. The same goes for your office people during the pre and post move phases. There was only one minor opportunity for improvement that I will point out for you. The wood case on one of the three art pieces I shipped was removed on the truck instead of inside the house. That maneuver made me a little nervous. Again, just a small detail to watch for next time. read more

The packers were professional and had great attention to detail. Our loaders were efficient and careful and the delivery of furniture went just as smooth. I would strongly suggest you look somewhere else! Once they have your money, all communication ends! Loraine Piraux and Wendy Howard have the worst business manners. We asked for a detailed invoice on June 28, and we still have gotten one on Oct 1st. Nothing that was discussed and agreed upon happened. Shipment was late, we requested packing and unpacking service. The unpacking didn't happen. They never opened the crates. The company never followed up with any of our numerous emails, phone calls. We had a complicated difficult business move. Things did not go as planned but the Tippet Richardson team stepped in and provided all the help that we needed. Was happy to see the movers show up on time on load date for our big move from Calgary to Halifax. The guys got our stuff all loaded within an hour or two and then came to find me to sign off on the truck. Checking through the house, everything was gone and I was glad to see our stuff on its way to our new home. The loader informed me that he would not be the one driving our things across the country and lingered for an awkward minute, something I didn't pick up on until they were gone. I guess he was looking for a tip. Oops! I was planning on tipping the guys on the other side. Within a day or so, I got a call from the company, letting me know that our belongings were much MUCH heavier than the estimate we had been given. The price went up, totalling close to $7000 for a two bedroom apartment. Ouch. After all this, I found out that we could be expecting our things in Halifax sometime leading up to May 15. Load date had been the 21st of April, which to me, felt like a really long time, especially since our move one year prior to Calgary from Ottawa, had been completed in about a week. When our things finally arrived in Halifax, on the last possible day (15th), they were offloaded by a local moving company who had picked up the load in Barrie, ON. They were nice enough and seemed to take care with our belongings. When almost everything was offloaded, their crew chief came to me to discuss some damages done to our belongings. First of all was a beautiful antique coffee table that we had purchased for $250. The mover showed me the damage- 3 of the 4 wooden legs were completely destroyed, split from the base which was also damaged due to the handling. This was a table that had been with us through our last move and showed up in perfect shape on the other end, so I know it was sturdy enough to survive a move. The mover told me that he couldn't believe that the loaders in Calgary had not done anything to protect the table, that it had been loose in the truck and was already damaged by the time he took over the load. In addition to the table, many boxes were crushed or split, signs of an obvious lack of care from those handling them in transit. The mover told me that he would talk to his boss and the company in Dartmouth, NS would be in touch within a week or so to set up an appointment with a master carpenter, one who he was sure would be able to fix our destroyed table. He gave me his private number so I might reach him if I didn't hear from his company. Once everything was supposedly offloaded, we went through the list of numbered boxes that I had not marked as being offloaded. We were able to cross many of the numbers off the list, from cross-referencing with an itemized list, but there were still many boxes unverified. He told me that they were likely just some of the boxes he had offloaded without tags. I believed him and sent him and his partner on his way with a tip. Once I started looking around, I realized that a large (5' by 5') metal rolling rack that my partner and I use for our business was missing. I immediately called Tippet in Calgary and was put through to our salesperson, Lorraine's, voicemail. I left her a message about the missing item, then hung up and called our mover on his personal line. He said that he didn't remember seeing it, but would look into it for me. The following day, or maybe the day after, I was able to get ahold of Lorraine, and she told me that I was no longer her responsibility, that I was to call the company in Dartmouth, but that she would look in the warehouse for me. I called the company in Dartmouth and they took my information. Days later, I heard from Allied by email and I submitted a claim form. In a few days, I got a call from a telemarketer for Allied asking about my experience. I told the telephone agent about the broken and lost items and she said that she would put a red flag on my account so I would hear from someone sooner. Days later, two weeks after the items were reported missing, I heard from an agent for Sirva (the umbrella company for Allied) and she told me that I would be receiving $125 for my broken table now, then $125 later when I replaced the table and sent them an invoice. I'm not sure when plans changed from fixing my table to buying a new "one of a kind" antique with $250, but I didn't appreciate this approach. The claims adjuster for Sirva also informed me that, because the rolling rack hadn't been documented as missing when the load was delivered, rather half an hour later, they would not be replacing or reimbursing me for the lost item. I was upset to hear this, as we had paid over $250 + shipping for this item, and not having it adds up to lost profits for our business. After getting off the phone with the agent for Sirva, she emailed me the claim, and I responded to her email with one of my own, asking again that they reconsider my claim for the rack. I never heard back from her. read more

This is the worst moving company ever. They claimed to have professional movers, sent someone who has never done this before. This person went on the damage two of my most expensive pieces of furniture. I paid the extra insurance money to assure that I had replacement cost, however, the company refused to replace the pieces and have been trying to bully us for the past 6 months. read more

The sales agent Lorraine was very friendly and helpful but the execution of the move wa sadly inferior. Belongings were left at the originating home; the crew wasn't able to manoeuvre my headboard up the stairs (I hired another crew who managed it without difficulty); items went missing. The $ impact isn't so much the disappointment as has been the stress of the poor quality. read more
