I know the difference between 'good', 'average' and 'bad' when it comes to PT's. I'm a Male in my early 60's who is focused on Power Lifting training and wants someone to have an eagle eye in form/technique to mitigate risk of injury and to optimize my time in the gym. In my eyes, 'good' starts with a PT who is prepared (the plan is set before I arrive for the session, not 'made up on the fly'), a PT who engaged throughout the session, monitoring technique/ensuring good form to mitigate injury risk and who is personable/fun to work with while not being afraid to push me to heights/challenges I likely wouldn't take on by myself. Andrew Cao, the Director of the St Pete location, is a very good leader and sets the tone for the high levels of professionalism that each of the trainers exhibit as I watch them work with their clients. My trainer, Joe Cameron, has been exceptional to work with & is beyond 'good' as outlined above. - The gym is never 'packed' (5 clients at one time is max I've seen during my 3 months and it's busy w/out being claustrophobic). - You are greeted warmly, by name, by all upon arrival, - the facility has all the major equipment you need - the 'Trainerize' app they use is the best I've encountered in my fitness journey and is comprehensive re: exercise (w/videos available for every movement), food, water & steps tracking all-in-one. - the place is as clean as a whistle with towels provided along with home brewed Nitro Coffee. I am new to the area and was looking for a program of some sort. I stumbled upon reviews for Burg Crossfit's Revive program but quickly learned it had already begun. Olivia invited me in to check out the gym to see if it could fit my needs. I had no Crossfit experience. I would not say I have ever been athletic. Walking into this gym was a bit terrifying. I could see all the equipment that it looked like I would hurt myself on. I saw exercises I had never done before. I write this now two months later. I am stronger, faster, have a much better body awareness, weigh less and not scared most of the time. The members and the trainers have been great, very friendly. And I cannot say how great it has been to work with Olivia!! She pushes me to work hard but in a good way. And we are always doing something new. The boring stuff- they accept credit cards. Basically, you get to do a heated workout in the infrared saunas at Hotworx and follow it up with a cold plunge at Arctic Bath & Coffee after. What a rush! Heated workouts aren't my favorite, as I usually get a little lightheaded, but the friendly team at Hotworx talked me through the info and let me know that I could just take a breather if the heated workout was too much. Your time in the sauna is your time, so you spend it how you need to. I tried the hot yoga, where up to three people can do yoga side by side. You have to use their Hotworx mats and towels, but they had plenty to utilize. They also had foam rollers available, which was a nice touch. The other sauna choices had things like row machines and stationary bikes, and I thought it was cool that you could do workouts like that in the saunas. I may try the rowing next time. They also have a free weights gym area in the middle of the facility, and anyone at Hotworx can use it while they are there. It's a members only studio, so the main door is locked unless you have your member access. You just book the session you want (or as many as you want) and head in to get a great workout! I highly recommend trying out the fire and ice combo they are doing with Arctic Baths next door. It's so rejuvenating to get in an awesome sweat at Hotworx and instantly cool down your body (literally) in a cold plunge right after. And the teams at both businesses couldn't be nicer.
