On a day cruise stop, we chose to do a tour of the Belfast area. We got tickets for an early morning tour of the Titanic Museum. Interactive and full of information on the construction of the Titanic and what the shipyards mean to the Belfast community. This was an excellent experience, beautifully produced in every way. You can feel the history of the place. The exhibits are well worth the time & money to spend some time learning about the Titanic. This is the best attraction in Belfast which is significant given the history of Belfast. read more

Went on a spur of the moment bus trip to Belfast, Giant's Causeway, and Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge. We had the option to do either Titanic Belfast or one of the taxi tours. Although Im sure the taxi option was great as well, this experience was unforgettable. I am so glad I got to experience this. It is moving and at some points hard to handle considering the emotional factor of it all. There is so much attention to detail, and all the displays inside were incredible. Seeing the spot that is so famous and touring the museum there was just remarkable. The gift shop was excellent, and the staff were all so friendly. Being able to walk out a big on the wharf where the ship was physically constructed was amazing as well. Such a wonderful experience. read more

I struggled with rating this one. I really hovered over the 3 before deciding to round up. My deciding factor was the layout was well-designed with tons of information from start to finish. I could spend days reading the information and looking at the pictures. I feel that it's a place you need to really take your time going through. Stop, read, absorb. The misses: an hour long queue to ride a ride that I'm relatively certain we could all do without. It's gimmicky, unnecessary and the reason I really wanted to give a 3. Picture if you will: you are herded into a line, constantly being told to squeeze closer together so that the people on the lifts can get off. People who are getting off the lifts are being told to cram into the line, or skip it if preferred, (you can't come back to it), as the wait is now estimated xx. The nagging and herding continues for over an hour. At last your turn has come. You ride a long for a couple of minutes, almost seeing screens and sort of hearing a story. It ends and you're thankful to be done. That, combined with not a lot of interactive things to entertain the children - who are now crying and falling to the floor, brought the experience down a notch. I thought the theater was nice. It really drew people into it. Naturally, given the location, the main focus belongs on the building and the launch of the Titanic. It's a somber experience. read more

Great museum - so good it actually got recognized as the Best Tourist Attraction Worldwide in 2016! The museum takes you on a self-guided tour from Belfast in the 1800s through the excavation of the Titanic today. You can opt in for the audio guide for an en extra few pounds, but it isn't needed. The entire exhibit took me about 2 hours to go through, and I found it to be very interactive, informative, and interesting. Some of my favorite parts of the tour were the life-size models of the various cabin quarters and the respectful way they presented the ship sinking. Parking was easy - they have a large lot. You can also take a taxi there and there is a whole line up of them waiting for when you are finished. One star off because there was a lack of actual artifacts from the wreckage, which surprised me. A wonderful heartbreaking exhibit. The history walks you through not just 'comparison to the movie' but the history of growing Belfast, local experience, and the shaping of the ship. I highly recommend the 'ride' inside, as it provides 'real' accounts of a shipyard worker that really bring you into the mindset of a Belfast worker. As you go through the chronological life of the Titanic, you really learn about the heart that went into the ship-when the ship begins the journey, I felt broken knowing the ending-living through it with each exhibit. They layouts provide such in-depth information, I learned so much. When the ship final met that pivotal moment, the museum will bring you to tears. The hallway of the SOS messages was one of the most well done exhibit's I've seen. It provides an intimate experience, even as you are surrounded by fellow movie goers. As it pressed on, they finally answer the 'here is the movie-yes we acknowledge it'-but then it goes beyond that to here are other references you didn't even think about, complete with news articles throughout every time period. Fans of James Cameron's 1997 epic will probably be enthralled by this elaborate tourist attraction that sits in the former shipyard where the Titanic was built exactly a century ago. The building itself is quite a sight designed to look like a ship's prow but at the same time eerily evoking the iceberg that the original ship hit in the Northern Atlantic (see photos). Once inside, it's a cavernous hall that houses nine interactive, interpretative galleries for a £ 13 admission fee. The first highlight is the Shipyard where you get to sit in a six-seat car that takes you through a recreation of a shipyard which moves through a scale replica of Titanic's enormous rudder. The second impressive exhibit is the Fit-Out, which presents a 360-degree CGI tour around the Titanic through all the levels of the ship from the engine room up to the dining salons and the bridge. Of course, there are galleries devoted to the sinking, the only partially successful rescue effort, and where it sits today 12,000 feet below sea level which is replicated with a submarine view of the wreck under the glass floor. While I can see how a Titanic fanatic would be in blissful heaven here, I personally felt it bordered on overkill at times. Still, I would consider this one of Belfast's top attractions if you venture north from Dublin like I did. A lot of my tour group looked like they spent most of their time in the gift shop. read more

Titanic Belfast was a neat walk through of a sad time in history. The exhibits and museum is well done and honors the memory of those lost in such a tragic way. Titanic Belfast also shows the love and extensive work that was put into the building of the Titanic. The loss is heart wrenching and I love how titanic Belfast has memorialized this loss. History is best remembered. There are cafe's and a gift shop in the building and parking in the underground garage. There is also a cool restaurant outside the museum that serves period food-what the workers working on the titanic would eat at local pubs. So neat! read more

I loved this museum. I'm not really into Titanic, but thought I should go here while in Belfast and I'm so glad I did. The museum is really an homage to the city and to the Titanic and is very thoughtfully done. It's huge, so be prepared to spend at least two hours, and more if you do the ride, the SS Nomadic, need to eat, etc. I rushed through it a bit because there was a Guinness with my name on it, but still loved it. You start by learning about Belfast, and then the building of the ship, and then the sailing, sinking, and the survivors, and end with learning about ocean discovery. I found all of it fascinating. There's lot of activity stops, plus a ride. The museum is quite interactive and good for children. My favorite part was holding on to a vibrating railing and looking at a screen of the moving ocean, which felt like I was really on the ship. Since this is a new museum, everything is modern and the amenities are great (big bathrooms, an ATM, a nice-looking restaurant, etc.). The staff was quite helpful and friendly, and the gift shop is perfect for Titanic lovers. I would return if in Belfast again. read more

Titanic Belfast is a visitor center opened in 2012 adjacent to the Belfast docks where Titanic was constructed. It is an absolutely breathtaking building with five floors of exhibits. You begin by traveling from the ground floor up to the first floor, where a gallery details what Belfast was like during the years leading up to the time of Titanic. Unlike other Irish cities, it was quite industrial, with half a million linen looms in the city, and a major boat building business. Throughout the facility we found excellent displays, interactives and use of projections. Nearly every other museum I've been to should visit here to see how to properly design displays to engage and inform. I particularly loved the floor projections of drawings and other information in this first area. Sourced from four overhead projectors, they were constantly changing, easy to read, and amazingly resistant to shadows as we walked over them. This brought us to the base of a re-creation (at 1/3 scale) of the Arrol Gantry used to construct the Titanic's hull. We ascended in a lift to the fourth floor and boarded a dark ride that took us on a tour of the shipyard, through sets and projections. The ride vehicles were smaller versions of the King Kong ride from Universal Studios Florida in the 90's. Each six passenger vehicle was suspended from a scissor lift, permitting two stories of vertical travel. Ride audio was excellent. After the ride we stopped at a large window that looks out onto where the gantry stood. The window changes from opaque to transparent, in sync with a film of the launch. This shot captures it in transition, with the titanic in the gantry visible as a rendering over the view of the port: Other displays contained whole staterooms, including first, second and third class accommodations. A particularly effect 180 degree theater provided a tour of the ship, moving upward from engine room to bridge on three walls surrounding the audience: The displays on this floor concluded with the sinking, and on the third floor a two story high theater described the aftermath, including discovery and exploration. In a unique bit of design, the lowest floor of this theater was glass, and below it you could watch high resolution images as cameras moved over the wreck. With limited time we couldn't explore further, but the museum certainly deserves at least a half day, perhaps more. It is a truly great facility. read more

Mixed feelings. The exhibit felt uneven. It begins talking about the linen industry, which was a little perplexing. It went through some of the other industries in Belfast at the time, and then went into a ride. The ride was terribly disappointing. It took you in a small loop and basically watched a few TVs. Lame. At that point I was losing faith in the museum. But then it improved drastically when at the fitting out portion. Here, there were replica staterooms and it then gave stories about various classes of passengers, detailed the port stops with photos, gave the final telegrams, and went into the aftermath (and beyond). I would give the first half 1-2 stars, the latter part 4-5, so settled on 3 overall. The facility is well presented, clean, and the staff is friendly. They have a nice cafe and gift shop, and covered parking (additional cost). read more

Visiting the Titanic Belfast museum was a "must-do" on our holiday in Belfast! The £18 admission also includes admission to the SS Nomadic across the street. The museum itself is massive and so impressive! Anything you've ever wanted to know about the Titanic: the building process, her history, her passengers, clothing and artifacts from the time period, her fateful sinking, her sister ships, and related media are all under one roof. The level of detail is impressive. I especially liked the replicas of the First, Second and Third-Class staterooms, as well as the models. Having been born in Northern Ireland but living abroad for the last ten years, we haven't ever "had time" to visit this place before until our recent repatriation to NI. First things first - DO go to the afternoon tea, and go early, we went at 12.50pm and it was quiet enough to get a bunch of snaps on the grand staircase before there were any queues. The soft jazz trio is a nice touch, my son was obsessed by the double bass. Food was fresh, seasonally themed and absolutely delicious - there was also plenty of it, I wish we had thought to bring a Tupperware box as none of the 3 of us could finish it. The staff in here were second to none. Attentive, friendly, polite, I was super impressed. The museum itself is great - we were surprised. Due to it not being hugely friendly for my 4.5 year old we kinda had to race through it but we'd both like to go back and pay a bit more attention to things. I particularly liked the underwater camera/cinema experience looking at the shipwreck. Great photo opportunities outside too - slipways the Titanic and Olympic were released from, H&W cranes, and the Titanic experience building itself is beautiful. Definitely worth the entry fee! read more

The Titanic Belfast was the highlight of our visit to Belfast. This is a great museum with some really great exhibits that trace the Titanic from the time of its construction thru the time it sank. You need to give yourself a good 2-3 hours minimum at this museum. Even after 2-3 hours, there will be exhibits you didn't have time to see or didn't have enough time to spend as long as you might have wanted at a particular exhibit. The Titanic Belfast is a must see attraction. This is well worth the cost of admission and really tells the history of the Titanic. read more

I like self-guided tours. It let's you go at your own pace. Since I love taking pictures, it gives me plenty of time to do so - this way, I don't have to be that annoying tourist girl who stops every five seconds just to take a random picture of the floor or a plate or something. The museum was pretty cool. I learned a lot about the ship and its passengers as well as Titanic as featured in popular culture. They also have a ride (that's included in your ticket price) that takes you back so it's like you're actually back in the 1900s, watching people work on the ship. If you pay an extra 3 Euros or so, you get to go to Titanic's Pumphouse, which was where the ship was built. It's about a ten minute walk from the exhibition but the day we went, it was FREEZING and we were literally fighting the wind so it seemed more like a 30 minute walk. Needless to say, my hair definitely lost the battle that day. It was worth it though. You get to actually go down to where they built it and stand in the actual shipyard. We spoke to a journalist outside after we left and he had mentioned that a lot of people were upset that there was no replica of the ship inside the museum. I'm not sure how feasible that would really be, so that fact didn't bother me too much. The verdict - check it out! Visited on a Sunday before New Years and the place was overcrowded. Exhibits got claustrophobic and the crowds moved along sluggishly. It's probably fine on a weekday, but not today. I wonder whether the designers lacked the square footage the exhibits required. The theater is only a few years old, but is falling apart and shabby. On the plus side, the exhibits are well done and thorough. read more

Titanic Belfast is the leading tourist attraction and it doesn't surprise me. Full of interactive displays, narrated exhibits, a ride and an underwater journey, it is by far the best museum experience I have had, and compares to the EPIC Immigration Museum in Dublin. You can explore the nine galleries at your leisure, and your ticket includes entry into the SS Nomadic moored across the street. The White Star ticket will give you a picture souvenir as well as the aforementioned access. My friends did the tea experience and highly recommended it but we had to skip it to save time. Must do if you have at least 2 or 3 hours in the city. The food in the maim hall is excellent and you can hail a cab with minimum effort. Arm yourself with a map amd walk around the Belfast Titanic spots. Enjoy! read more

I really liked the reconstruction of 3 different cabins - 1st, 2nd and 3rd class -which was a small closet! The Titanic Cafe had average/good food, especially for a museum cafe. As a fan of the Titanic I just had to stop by the birthplace while in Ireland. It is a huge building with a lot of stuff to see and learn. They offer an unguided tour where you get to freely look around yourself however there is a chance you will miss some things if you don't want to sit and read everything yourself. They do have audio tours which I would like to try next time I visit. It is important to know that Titanic Belfast focuses on the building of the ship since it was built in Belfast, in fact right next to the building. If you are more interested in learning about the crash and the tragedy surrounding the Titanic you may not enjoy the tour as much. They have a coffee shop as well as a gift shop. You also have a chance to go on a ride while in the building and explore the inside of a white star line ship. All in all it was fascinating and I highly recommend! read more

Quite an informative and fascinating place where the Titanic was built at the shipyard behind the museum. Guests walk through a few interactive exhibits including a Disneyesq ride and a theatre showing film of the exploration team going under the sea to the wreckage. Giving it 4 stars because there isn't any artifacts on display. Check online for promo, I was able to book online for early bird tickets (entry before 9:45am M-F in April) £13.5 vs £18.50, that's £5 savings per person! Once it's booked, you get an email with a code which you can print your tickets at the museum. Ticket price includes a visit to the SS Nomadic Ship which is the only last White Star Line ship existing. It used to be the tender ship to the RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic and been through WWII. Audio tour is £3 which I'd suggest getting since each exhibit has a lot to read. Before you leave, go to the visitor information booth and ask for your Titanic White Star Line tickets as souvenirs, it's free! read more

It's certainly and architectural marvel and the space is very interactive, but it's complete sensory overload. They tried to do way too much and it's overwhelming. Lots of noise, things blinking, screens going at the same time, etc. Can't even keep up. The "ride" portion, while fun I suppose, made absolutely no sense and you couldn't barely hear what was being said over the ambient noise. The last exhibit was on marine education...again...seemingly nothing to do with the Titanic or even Belfast. Like they needed to fill space. It was clearly built with tourism in mind, which is fine, but it really loses the story. Little emphasis on working class Belfast and the treatment of workers. At £19.50 it's also highway robbery to even get into the place. Student price (a mere £3 off) only available during the week...when students are typically busy...go figure. Bit disingenuous in my opinion. I suppose it's worth visiting if you're in the area, but has plenty of issues. Certainly not worth going a second time. read more

What a fantastic museum! I've seen the Titanic exhibit twice: once when I was a kid at the California Science Center and once last year in Buena Park. That one had TONS of artifacts. Like... so so many. This one didn't have very many. There were a couple of letters but that was about it, so don't expect to see a bunch of artifacts from where the ship sank. This museum is more informational than anything. It's beautiful from the outside and also the inside. I believe it opened in 2005 so it's still very new. You can tell the amount of effort and work that went into it. Ticket prices aren't expensive at all. I believe it was €18 for an adult ticket and it's very much worth it. The museum is very big and you can spend a couple of hours here easily. You'll learn all about the ship, how it was built, why it was built, the sinking, and diving under the ocean. There's even a slow ride that takes you through the building process of the ship. There's also replicas of rooms from each class level. One of the really cool parts was the room that takes you on a tour of the Titanic with a 360 view. There's not too much in the gift shop, but that's okay. We took the train from Dublin since that's where we were staying and it was only about 2 hours. Definitely worth the trip up if that's also where you're staying! read more

I read about this place before we visited and I wasn't sure what to expect. Years ago we had gone to a Titanic exhibit in Las Vegas and they had a lot of artifacts recovered from the shipwreck but here that wasn't necessarily the case. There were a lot of interactive displays telling the story of the Titanic and some of its passengers. There were mockups of rooms for all classes on the ship and it was quite interesting to see the differences between first class and steerage. We ate at the snack bar but were very unimpressed with the food. As usual for our trip, we arrived before the full lunch menu was available and we had to wait. I had the burger and my wife had the fish and chips and we shared our meals with each other and they were both pretty lousy. It also didn't help that at the table next to ours some elderly people had purchased a whistle from the gift shop for their young grandson and he kept blowing it as loudly as he could. I wanted to smack him and take the whistle away. Eventually his parents showed up and told him to knock it off. The gift shop had the usual goods but nothing I wanted to buy except for a magnet and some postcards. Outside you can go to the shipyard where the Titanic was built and there is an outline showing how big it really was, but in reality it would be dwarfed by modern cruise ships. There was also a boat that had been used to rescue survivors from the disaster that you could go on but we ran out of time (as we were on a tour) and didn't get to experience it. Overall if you are a Titanic or history buff you will find this place interesting but others will probably find it boring. read more

I was so excited for this but was so let down. It's sad because I love learning about the titanic but this wasn't done well at all. The building and facilities were absolutely beautiful. Really stunning architecture. However the experience felt choppy, confusing, there's no actual artifacts and it felt like half of the museum was solely on the history of belfast and the ship building industry. The ride was weird too because it didn't match to what we were hearing verses what was playing on the screens. It was like our car was late to the screens. Every time we came to a screen it was ending and would go dark. It didn't make sense. It also wasn't personable in any way. I've been to several titanic museums in the states and they really get you to realize how bad the crash was and how the lower class was so poorly treated. They even assign you a passenger and you find out at the end if they lived or died. This museum in belfast didn't have anything like that. There was nothing to really draw you in. It focused alot on the wealthy and didn't get as involved with the lower class. It felt gimicky with the lame ride and short reenactment clips/audio but not giving you a ton of information or any actual artifacts. After we finished the museum we ate at the cafe on the first floor. It was okay, nothing great but at least it was food. I was so disappointed I didn't even buy a souvenir which is very unlike me. While the museum is beautiful, I just didn't feel it did the titanic story justice. read more

I finally got to visit Titanic Belfast. I am a huge Titanic Historian ever since I was seven years of age. I was absolutely on top of the world upon seeing it from the outside for the first time. I visited the Titanic Belfast on a Friday Morning. I immediately booked my tickets and followed the directions at the self check in. If you have any questions or need any help. Be sure to ask the staff. They are all so professional and genuinely care about their guests. I loved the attention to detail, the exhibitions and the various video presentations. Honestly I really enjoyed my visit and it was definitely met my expectations as a Titanic Historian! I definitely would return in the near future. You definitely won't be disappointed. It should be noted I am originally from Dublin, Ireland, Lived in the United States for over thirty years and served with the United States Marines all over the world. I definitely know an amazing museum from all my travels and life experiences. The building is beyond amazing. Be sure to give your self a few hours for your visit. Titanic was built at the former Harland and Wolff Shipyard in Belfast, and this museum is situated in the Titanic Quarter where there are many historic maritime landmarks. I generally have little patience for museums, but I was actually pretty excited for this one. There's even a little ride inside the museum that takes you through the building process of the ship. It was sad to read the SOS dialogues, and my engineer nerd of a husband was infinitely fascinated by the construction of this huge ship. read more

My review for the museum alone would be 5 stars. It's absolutely worth doing for all ages. An impressive set-up covering everything from the economical backdrop of the time period, the building of the ship, survivors' stories and the eventual discovery of the wreckage. Some of the more tangible parts of the exhibit are the a shipyard ride (come on, there's a little kid in all of us) and the replicas of the different staterooms. The first floor of the exhibit can feel extremely packed but as you move through the exhibit, it clears up a little. With the amount of information, I'd allow two hours if you really want to see/read everything. We visited on a Sunday, so after the exhibit, we booked in for the afternoon tea in the Titanic Suites. This experience was 2 stars. For £25 per person, I felt it was completely not worth the money. All the food tasted store-made... not even the scones were baked fresh! They were rewarmed but you can't cover up the telltale sign of a soggy crust. Really, guys? You couldn't even make the scones? The sandwiches reminded me of the budget catering we get for last-minute lunch meetings. We left with most of the food untouched. Go see the exhibit, but skip the afternoon tea. read more

Titanic Belfast is a 'must-see' when visiting Belfast. It is an 'experience' in that you navigate through each gallery starting with a wonderful exhibit about Belfast life 100 years ago. Incredible movies are projected on huge screens with actual footage of city streets, it is fascinating.. Each gallery covers a different aspect of Titanic history all the way up to the discovery of the submerged Titanic by Dr Robert Ballard. There is something for everyone, plan on 3 hours. This is a self-guided tour of the Titanic Belfast. You will explore plenty of exhibits and will require lots of reading to gain the history of the Titanic and Belfast's boat building industry. As I'm more of a visual and interactive learner, it was a bit too much for me to take in all of the experience through reading. Quite a spectacular looking museum in terms of the architecture and the outside of the building. It's right up there with the Guggenheim in NYC in terms of giving off an impression even before you enter the premises. It alone makes it a must visit in Belfast. Can't book a guided tour through the museum though, as all of it is self guided. The tour covers a lot of history before and after the sinking, and gives a historic backdrop of the age. Alas, the tour overall felt a little underwhelming though. Maybe felt a little light on actual artifacts. Felt a little overpriced. Still would recommend as a must see if you're in town. read more
