07.09.25 Switzerland was leg number 6/7. Zurich was hub but made sure to do a tour to see the Swiss Alps. Titlis was an hour from Lucern and the scenery driving to the tram was very idyllic. Taking the tram to the top took a good 20-25 minutes. We beelined for the ice cave which was exciting for the kids, one plays hockey and my girl figure skates so no biggie for them. I on the other hand was super careful not to slip walking on ice. I already broke my coccyx snow boarding once. I wasn't going to do it again at 10k ft elevation. Make sure to wear hiking shoes with good traction. It was very gloomy and cold that day, felt like winter because of the summer storm. We all braved going outside to do the cliff walk but the visibility was no more than 5ft, only my daughter and hubby got to the end of the suspension bridge. It felt like Mt Everest and we only had our last minute parkas and hoodies purchase on so my fingers were frozen popsicles. Our tickets also included the ice flyer but because we were going to be exposed to the frigid temp, we decided to ditch it and cozied up inside the restaurant for some hot cocoa. On our way down we got off Trübsee, explored the lake and got a little too close to the grazing cows, they do stink. Despite the crappy weather, it was an exciting adventure for the family. read more

Someone I was there with mentioned that they should have named it something other than Titlis. Guess what, the world doesn't revolve around English! Just ask the guy named Poon. Fun fact, they have wood plaques of HK singer/actress Gigi Leung plastered up in the hallways like she's Employee of the Month. At least, that's what I thought it was till I looked closer. Apparently it's a source of pride for the Swiss. Kidding. But seriously. What the hell? After moving on from Gigi's Mona Lisa plaques, we rode the gondola, which provides a 360º panoramic look at the powdery mountains and checked out the glacier cave at the top. Took my parents here so they could see some Swiss mountains. It's CHF 86 per person for a round-trip from Engelberg to Titlis, so not cheap. But totally worth the experience to be so high up and even see snow in late June. And it's cheaper than the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe experience. Unluckily for us, the mountain was socked in fog, so we couldn't see anything from the Titlis Rotair. Shucks. I was also looking forward to the Ice Flyer chairlift, which was closed due to the inclement weather. Double shucks. But we enjoyed walking through the Glacier Cave and then warming up with hot chocolate and Ovamaltine. The only unexpected thing was how much they catered to the swarms of Indian tourists by serving Indian tea, samosas, and Indian pizza. There were even two life-size cutouts on top of the mountain that I could only guess were of some Bollywood stars. I've never seen that in a Swiss resort, so that was different. read more

Mount Titlis was an amazing experience. The Swiss Alps are truly a world wonder. The best experience you can have!! You are +3000meters meters/+10,000ft in the air. While it is expensive, it is worth it, I promise! You will not regret it. There is also so much to do when you get up there. More than just scenery. This Rotair takes you on top of Mt. Titlis where you get to see breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps. When you reach the mountain, they have several (also Free) activities up on the mountain, including 1. Titlis Cliff Walking - you walk between two mountains on a cliff (Free) 2. Glacier Cave (Free) 3. Snow tubing (Free) 4. Ice flyer (Free) 5. Panoramic Ice Hike (free) 6. So many restaurants at each and every stop 7. Lindt Chocolate store / Gelato I would try to go when their are clear skies (no rain) so you can truly appreciate the sky views. You can find a 24hour live web- footage of the Views from the website to see if the skies are clear FYI VERY IMPORTANT - if you are a tourist in Switzerland - consider buying Travel pass when you go based on the number of days you stay. You get several perks of buying the Swiss Pass. 1. With this Pass- you get to ride all trains boats and buses for free. 2.With the pass you also get 50% off all Skylifts/trams taking you up to the mountain tops. FYI if you think you will save money by buying Swiss train tickets individually, you probably wont. The individual price value for a single train ticket is very expensive. Especially if you are going from major cities to country side. You may need to use several trains. read more

Cue Dead or Alive reference!!!! You spin me 'round like a record baby! This gondola takes you to the top of Mt. Titlis, which is a popular view for skiers and non alike. You get your first glimpse of the tourist draw down in town, when busloads of tourists in street clothes/shoes make there way up the mountain. Their destination is this five minute trip up the rotating gondola for stunning views. So the rotation isn't super fast, but it does mean you can't use the sides of the gondola for balance as you are rotating. Might be a little easier to keep your balance in street shoes as compared to ski boots, but it was a fun five minutes. The floor rotates, while the shell of the gondola is stable. At the top of the gondola there is a station with souvenirs (giving you the ability to drop a few grand on a watch, should you so choose). At the top of the station, there is a large deck to view the surrounding peaks. You can rent winter boots (which will have RENT in yellow across the top) which will give you better traction for walking on the snow towards the Cliff Walk. I walked on it in ski boots and I was fine. Just be mindful of the strong wind that can pick up. If you're not used to the altitude, take your time as you are at 10,000 feet (~3000 meters). On a sunny, clear day you MUST make the trip to the Cliff Walk as it is a unique experience and offers stunning views of the world around you. It's worth noting that if you are afraid of heights, this is probably not the experience for you, as you can see what's beneath you as you traverse the bridge. There were some in my crew that found that to be a dealbreaker. If you want to ski Rotegg, this is also one way to access the trail. And yes, you want to ski Rotegg. read more

Expensive but totally worth the trip. You go high up in the mountain and have a scenery within the everlasting tops of the famous swiss alps! they have a glacier you can walk through and also a hangingbridge with an excellent view. unfortunately the service in the "self-service" restaurant is really bad so you better go to the "panorama" restaurant. another minus point is that out of all the employees up there. there is only one swiss employee and all the others are foreigners???!! thats not really how tourists can experience switzerland.......... but still a great place to show people a great view of switzerland. but dont forget the PILATUS in summer times!! read more

"Spinning aerial tram" sounds scary, but this is actually about as safe as a regular one. The spinning section is a rotating floor inside a standard shell. Also, "spinning" is an overstatement --- the Rotair makes a single full revolution during the trip. Enough to see the full view, but not a carousel experience. It's definitely worth leveraging a tourist visit (either your own or someone else's), I don't think this would be a repeated adventure for most people. Do try to time your visit for a sunny day --- in a whiteout, the ride itself is pretty uninteresting. read more

Sledding & snow tubing in shorts and a T-shirt in the end of July was a fun break from the heat. We even witnessed a naturally occurring avalanche from the scenic overlook. Pilatus was great. Titlis was better. read more

Considering the most crowded tourists attraction. They should've been more friendly to foreign visitors. Extraordinarily over priced by Western World standards. You WILL NOT get what you paid for, but you will have an unforgettable adventure. If the weather is poor the day you are there do not expect to see anything. The day we were there was miserable. Cloud cover down to the parking lot. Before you are scared away by the two stars, know that the mountain is incredible. It's breath-taking and the hiking is the most scenic I've ever seen. The reason for the low score is because my sister and I went up the Titlis cable car for 86 francs (around $100us). This is a very popular tourist attraction. Viewing the mountain from the cable car was spectacular. But the actually getting "aboard" the cable car was an absolute shit show. I'm athletic and in shape and felt like I was going to be suffocated by the poorly managed crowd. There were no ropes, no instruction, no lines so people --a mob of people -- just pushed and pushed toward the single turnstile. People were being crushed and no authority was stepping up, so I screamed "stop pushing!!!!" My sister got pushed through the turnstile and screamed for me, and the attendant motioned me to climb the barricade so I could get thru. They were clearly overwhelmed and no one was stepping up to help. Perhaps the mountain was over capacity from tour groups (although, when we complained the woman at the desk said they are used to twice this many people) so I don't want to assume it's always like this. But people (the tourists) were acting like animals and I don't really blame them. There was an "every man for himself" mentality. So we felt especially bad for people with children. When I pay 86 francs to experience something, I shouldn't be shaking with fear upon squeezing through the turnstile. We asked for a partial refund (which we thought was fair bc we did enjoy the hike and view) but we were denied. Engelberg is the most gorgeous city though. So if you do Titlis, just be ready to get up close and personal. Good luck! read more
