TJ Loopies made desserts for my daughter's wedding. Everything they made was fantastic! I was asked at least 10 times where we got our cupcakes and cheesecake bites. We ordered more than 1 dessert for each per person. The cheesecake bites were gone and the cupcakes had very few left. They did an amazing job! read more

Amazing place in Houghton Lake! I'm a frequent flier on weekends in the summer and am always looking for new places to try. TJ Loopie's is the perfect spot to grab a cool refreshing drink or sweet after a long day on the boat or in the sun. They did such a beautiful job renovating this building. There is an outdoor patio and plenty of indoor seats as well. I stopped in on a hot Saturday afternoon and had their fresh strawberry lemonade. When I tell you it hit the spot, it truly hit the spot! One of the best lemonades I've had. I even ended up stopping in on my way home for another! I also tried their cupcakes and those were also tasty. Stopped in on a whim on a Sunday. Quaint little ice cream shop with a bakery and lemonade as well. The rolled ice cream was a huge hit with my hubby. He tried a kid's sized cup. Delicious! Friendly customer service and a very clean facility. Highly recommend when you are in Houghton Lake. read more

OMG why have I never been here before! I've passed by so many times. As I'm tooling around the Houghton Lake area on my Spyder I saw TJ's. "Stop you fool" I said to myself. "You're thirsty and need a sip." I rode past and had to turn around. M55 is very busy and I was in the right lane on the wrong side of road. The pina colada smoothie is excellent. Just the right amount of sweetness. The cookies look fabulous. Surprise for Mom. So I'll give you the scoop on flavor later. Definitely will be back for the Canoli Cake. Yum!!! UPDATE: The cookies are delicious. Mom tried the Ganache Stuffed Chocolate Chip one and here's the conversation. Mom: "How much did you pay for the cookie?" Me: "$2.00" (The way she asked I thought she was going to tell me I wasted my money.) Mom: "Well you got a whole lot of chocolate for your money." Me: "Huh? Mom: "Its yummy! Are there more?" The staff is very friendly and informative. They told us about how they started, recommended the thing that started their whole business going; the lemonade. It is a good balance of sweet and lemon, not sour or tart. He made it right at the counter, very cool! It is a cute business very welcoming inside and out. Living here year-round, I noticed this place opened early last summer, and have driven past it countless times, but only got to stop by this last week. No surprise on a cold and gloomy off-season, April afternoon that I was the only customer. But I was greeted warmly by the owner, Trevor, who kindly and patiently kinda showed me the ropes of the shop, so to speak. I had a hankering for a chocolate shake, and presumed Loopies would serve those (since they advertised having ice cream), but Trevor explained they did not do milk shakes/malts since all ice cream was "made to order", as in their stone cold rolled ice cream kinda thing. Alrighty then. So I ordered a fresh lemonade (@$4 small), made by Trevor in front of my eyes in the traditional, county fair "Lemon shake up" kinda style. So I was expecting that same, iconic kinda perfect blend of lotsa fresh lemon juice and sugar. And I was sorely disappointed. The lemon/sugar/water ratio *MOST* definitely leaned more towards water and sugar than lemon. Trevor was kind enough to add the strawberry "bubbles/bobas" (whatever) for free, just because I'd never tried them before in a drink. And they were a unique addition, however, there was nothing strawberry tasting about them, really, and aside from adding color and texture to the bottom, they did nothing for the lemonade, either way. This place offers a beautiful array of all sorts of cookies and other bakery goods, not to mention their made-to-order rolled ice cream. Their glass display cases are just lovely; classic bakery style, crystal clean and enticing; beautifully showcasing their many baked and otherwise sweet treats The place itself is super clean and cheerful and there's an outdoor space with picnic tables for warm weather enjoyment. With my lemonade, I snagged two cookies (@$2) a chocolate chip ganache and a lemon meringue. The chocolate chip cookie rated as just a "meh" to me, and in fact seemed slightly undercooked. The lemon meringue cookie, on the other hand, was absolutely sublime. Its (presumably?) sugar cookie base was perfectly well-baked and while at first I suspected the lemon filling was probably gonna be commercially made, I believe I was happily mistaken in that it tasted almost exactly like my sainted Italian grandmother's homemade lemon filling she made for her own heirloom lemon meringue pie It was absolutely delightfully delicious! So... while I've only sampled these three items thus far from Loopies, and probably won't go back for the lemonade or the chocolate chip ganache cookies, I'll definitely be back for another lemon meringue cookie as well as to sample their other yummy-looking goods! read more
