Meijer has a large selection of pretty much anything you might want at competitive prices in line with other grocery stores. We still travel a few times a year and saw the sign for this Meijer location on our way through Owensboro while heading up North to visit my wife's family. It is one of our regular stops to stock up on non-perishable items on the way home, and we still find it to be a great place to shop. They have a large fresh produce section with quality items, and the meat and seafood departments are big and good. We try to pack a cooler with us to pick items up on the way home when it is functional to do so. My wife loves to browse the health and beauty section, but she never fails to find ladies' clothing items on clearance or special and picks up new items on virtually every visit we make. But, the best aspect of shopping at Meijer is the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. On our last visit, we used the self-checkout lanes, and I was having difficulty using my MPerks card. I hit the button for assistance, and the lady who arrived to help took full ownership of the problem. While I told her it was not a problem and probably a temporary glitch she called two other staff members to help find a resolution for us and make it right. That is service that is above and beyond any other store we visit. Our only problem with Meijer is that they do not have a store in Dawsonville, GA, or anywhere closer to us than Bowling Green, KY. If for no other reason, we continue to patronize Meijer due to their wonderful customer service and their great staff.

It seems that most of Owensboro's economy is moving out to highway 54. Even some of the other business on south Frederica are closing. This mall hasn't closed yet, but this past summer, a news story came out about how the bank was going to foreclose on the owners as they were behind on payments. The mall is shaped like an "X" with different anchor stores on the ends. Well, a few anchor stores. The Sears closed down & moved out about a year ago. They've got a Macy's & JC Penny as the anchors. The Macy's home goods store closed down & Burkes Outlet took its place. They had a Ruby Tuesday's which also has an outside entrance which closed down a few years ago & became a "Show-Me's" which can be best described as a low rent Hooter's. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the deadest a mall can be, I'd say this is a 6. They've still got a bunch of name brand stores, but also many empty storefronts & off brand stores like "Hi Tech Accessories". I'd heard this place had went downhill, but I was surprised how so when I came to look around about 8 years after the last time I was here. I wouldn't be surprised if they close it and put an outdoor mall area here.

I pushed the button and waited a few minutes and nobody came. Then I pushed it again and waited a few more minutes and still, no one came. So then I asked an employee for assistance and she said she'd get someone for me, I told her thank you and I waited 10 minutes. Within those 10 minutes 3 employees passed me and saw me waiting and no one assisted me or asked if I needed them to get someone. I didn't have time to wait all day so I just left. Maybe target works a certain way and someone specific has to open the changing room doors but it is just insane to me that every time I've needed to try something on, there has been no one to unlock the doors. They need to do better. Aside from that, the employees need to be more friendly in general I feel like I'm talking to a robot every time I need help like nobody speaks.
