This is my go to nail salon in Cortland. It is always clean, and the staff is lovely. I went in for a fill today and Parker did a wonderful job! I have had some off experiences here in the past, but the good experiences far outweigh those so I think they're more or less flukes. I usually only get my nails done for a special occasion so I don't go regularly. Last year I heard from a couple people that TJs Nails was under new ownership and the service had gone downhill, but I decided to try them today anyway and I have only POSITIVE things to say. I went for a spa pedicure and a gel manicure. The young woman at the front desk was friendly and when she told me there would only be a short wait, she was correct. She also helped me between the regular and gel polish selections without being pushy. My technician, Parker, did a great job and was gentle. (No bleeding by any of the cuticles.) For the neck/upper back massage (optional but no extra cost), they add a heated towel which felt great. Also important -- everything was clean. I have to say that I usually don't enjoy going for a mani/pedi but I had a good experience today and would definitely go back there the next time. read more

I have been here a few times and my experience has been pretty good. Today I tried French tip for the first time here. It was not my favorite French tip, so I think I'll stick to solid colors when I go here again. I only get my nails done once or twice a year so I am not the best at understanding nail salon terms. One is TOO high. i sent this letter to the salon and never heard anything back. Not even an apology. My daughter and I came yesterday for mani/pedi. To start off the technician kept pressured me into a twenty dollar higher pedicure...which I reluctantly agreed to. That's on me.The pedi nail polish was slapped on, no base coat, and he painted several toes without adding any more polish. Rushed through the '15' minute lower leg massage and whatever else was included. My gel fill manicure was next. I jumped several times in pain, as he dremmled and filed down my nails,and I noticed that he put the nailfiles right back in his drawer, no washing or one use. I had to continually explain the shape I wanted, it took several times and this shape(stiletto) cost an extra 5$. Not sure why he wasn't aware of how to shape a nail that cost extra. At the end of this manicure, I looked down at my nails and the shapes and lengths were different and my cuticles were so Inflammed from being 'burned' by his rough filing, and one showed blood. The cost was nearly 200$ for the both of us...by the time we came home, our pedicures were chipped, and I noticed several of my nails were different lengths and different shapes. Both are nails are now chipping and we have wasted 200 that we treated ourself to. I will not be coming back for a redo or any other services. I would like a refund for this work. They were both done poorly and dirty nail files were used on me. I am very upset. read more

I've come at all hours of the day and there are always tons of people on staff so I've never had to wait. I love that they use the pedicure tub covers because we all know how gross that can be. I went here to get my nails done and asked for a chocolate dark brown color and they gave me a completely different color. They then said they could do the design I asked for and the browns didn't match. I then went back to get them fixed as it looked terrible and they said they could do gel over the anc and it shouldn't chip. A day later they chipped and I went back and they said all they could do was fix the nail that chipped. I had asked if they could redo the whole set since the colors do not match and the gel they did over it had already chipped. They proceeded to tell me it was my fault it didn't match and they couldn't do anything else for me. He spoke with other staff members in their language but barely engaged with me. My nails did look nice, so when checking out I left a $10 tip for Will. In with I had to ask the front desk staff what his name was because Will never introduced himself. All over the business there are signs saying let us know how we are doing and get a chance to win a basket. So I told the gentleman at the desk that my nails looked great but the guy who did my nails had no personality. He apologized about my complaint. I then went out side to get into my car. As I was about to get in my car Will came out the door and wanted to know what I had said to the guy at the front desk. I told him I liked my nails but he did not have a personality. Will asked what I ment as he had just done my nails. I told him again he had no personality. Will then responded "You are Crazy!!!" I then asked if he had ever heard of customer service. He then stated "You are crazy a crazy bitch" then he head back in the store. I told him I would never come back and then Will stated "Good I don't want you to and went back inside. At this point I was pissed. I went back inside and requested my $10 tip back. Not only did I feel like I was just a number.........I then was verbally abused by the nail tech in the parking lot. Oh my! Tyler did an AMAZING job on my pedicure today. He also did my chair massage. I had a spiral fracture of my humerus a few years ago, and my range of motion has been very limited since then, even with physical therapy. I had been wanting to treat my grandmother to a pedicure, and we made plans to go to TJ's the next time I was in town. I took her in yesterday, and the lovely staff treated my grandmother like a queen. They helped her get into the pedicure chair and accommodated to her needs, which they went out of their way to do. Our pedicures were wonderful, and I really enjoyed talking to the very friendly and sweet staff there. The prices are very inexpensive and the salon is roomy, comfortable and clean. Grandma and I felt like royalty after we left, and my grandma has vowed to come back every month. I only wish I lived closer to Cortland again! I highly recommend TJ's, and again, I can't stress enough how wonderful the staff is. read more

Two times I have went to this TJ Nails place once with Daughter wanted design on fingers they actually put stickers on her. Now I could do that and not pay the extra price. Gave another chance gift to my mother. She picked out a color and the lady that works there went over picked another one. They don't speak English hardly...I said I was upset about how they charged $55.00 one person for a mani/pedi and did not do anything special. They use to massage legs, put oil on heels, small back rub and work on callus removal. They did NONE of this to give one star would be overrated. Will not go back. Complete nightmare... my I came in wanting a pedicure and inquired about what the cost would be to add a manicure. I explained I wanted my feet done completely but my hand had just come out of a cast and had lots of dry dead skin that I needed exfoliated from the cast. I was told the price for the Manny and a petty and that was higher than what I wanted probably because of corona which is OK. I asked what they could do just about the dead skin and they said if I got an upgraded $55 pedicure they would do the paraffin on my hands for free. So the pedicure went fine no problems there when I went to do the paraffin he then cut my nails (Even though they did a terrible job cutting them) To add insult to injury At check out they charge for a full Manicure pedicure. When I asked the lady I explained my situation to you at the beginning he was not the person who did my nails they clearly acted like they did not understand. Apparently I was given a full manicure. However the nails are not cut correctly and are very uneven also on one hand they did not bother to try to scrub to get the dirt out from under the nails. I'm not gross but I broke my right arm and was Unable to for two weeks prior that's why I figured I'd splurge and get it fixed since my hand still hurts and I can barely use my hand. So not only was I charged the full price of the upgraded pedicure I was charged for a manicure when all I needed was the paraffin. My skin on the hand that was broken is still covered with exactly as much dead flaky skin as when I went in. If they had simply done some form of scribe like they did to my legs which turned out amazing my hand would've looked nice.There is a nail salon right across the street that I've heard from friends is very good maybe next time I will try them instead. I will say that they keep the place very clean and are following all of the coronavirus restrictions. Oh and I did ask for a clear coat on my feet and they did not do it. They rushed me over to the hand station instead. I will also complement that they were friendly until the end when they simply didn't care and would not budge. They RIP YOU OFF. I asked them to keep the shape of my nails (round) and I was charged an extra 5 dollars for a "special shape" they also cut my nails uneven and when I asked him to make them even he told me it was normal for it to be different lengths. Some nails were more pointed and others were very round. He did not fix them and I was charged 60 dollars for an acrylic base and regular gel on top of my normal nails. The polish was put on unevenly and when I asked for a breakdown of the price it did not make any sense, but he said he would give me 7 dollars off if I paid in cash. It's ridiculous that this mediocre work cost 2x the price of other nail salons that do significantly better and are much friendlier. I left them a 10 dollar tip though I was tempted to not tip at all. I will not be returning, the customer service has gone down hill. The only good thing is the hand paraffin and the fact that the wait is shorter in comparison to relaxation. A few staff members do a decent job and are friendly, it still does chip after 2 weeks when powder gel should be lasting a minimum of 3 weeks. But the negatives of this place outweigh the positives. I'd rather tip more money than be charged for ridiculous things that no other place would charge for. read more

This place has gone downhill over the last year. If you get a nail tech that doesn't drummel the hell out of your nails, you are one of the lucky ones. Instead of getting what you pay for (hand painted designs with the up charge) you are forced to resort to stickers because most of the nail techs don't know how to paint nail art. When you ask for the shape you desire and make them attempt to give the shape they bitch in Mandarin about you to other techs next to them. Besides being forced to wait three hours for a scheduled appointment, these people have clearly forgotten that you are paying good money for their services! I guess they also forget that people don't go there to have no real nails left but to preserve the health and beauty of what we grow natrually while making them look more beautiful; a work of art. When TJ's first opened, I loved it. They gave great pedicures & there was never a wait. Now however, I am very disappointed!!! I went to have acrylics done a few weeks ago & after waiting for over a hour, the guy only spent a 1/2 hour on my nails & they looked horrible! They didn't paint my cuticles or side of my nails. I went to Jimmy's, which is my usual place last week, and my tech couldn't believe the shoddy job they did & spend an hour & a half fixing them (& only charged me $15).
