Karen is actually a miracle worker on curly hair, I really can't say enough how wonderful she is. I went in for a trim at a different salon and had my curly hair absolutely butchered - like the top half of my head was layered in this mess that left it curling up around the crown, but the bottom layer of my hair was just left around my shoulders. I was panicked and didn't even know how to fix it. I found Karen through Yelp and saw some of the pictures and managed to get in to see her today. I really had low expectations, not because of Karen, but because I really didn't think there was much to do to my head except make it less... bad. Karen patiently listened to me basically break down in her chair and was so kind. I was already stressed from someone messing up my hair but she immediately put me at ease. She really took the time to look at my curls and how my curls differed from one side to the other (even gave me some great tips for my dry scalp). The whole time I felt like she understood curly hair and how to handle it. She was also super transparent about pricing which I really appreciated. I've had salons before make me feel tricked when I got to the register and see that different things were tacked on, but Karen was great. I'm happy/sad today. I had a very long appointment with Karen. My gray needed zapped. I needed a cut and I wanted some highlights. Once I learned of the price for full highlights, I opted for partial so I'd have $ for a good tip. When it came time to pay, I learned that the blow dry wasn't included in the numbers I was given and a glaze was used that wasn't included. I had a price in my head and then couldn't tip as much as I wanted. I didn't even spend that much $$ in Hawaii for a Brazilian Blowout. I don't think anything was done maliciously. Just be certain of the final price tag before moving forward. Cost aside, Karen is an absolutely wonderful hairdresser. She listens. She's got a good eye for color. The cut was perfect. She offers care and styling tips. Honestly, she's talented and wonderful. That's why I'm happy/sad. I REALLY like Karen and the results but I know she's out of my sustainable budget. Maybe I'll just get a root touch up and nothing else. If cost isn't an issue, or you can splurge, Karen is top-notch. I really like her a LOT and I do love the results! read more

This review is mostly for Jessie. She is a magician- I followed her from her previous studio and would follow her again. I used to just come in for cuts, but I learned Jessie is meticulous and so accommodating that I finally let her color my virgin hair. First we dyed it red (This was my 30th birthday meltdown), then red highlights for Christmas, and now honey balyage for summer. I text her pictures, she tells me what she can do, she is definitely reasonably priced for color, she seems to always have appointments available when I need them, and she is VERY attuned to her clients' needs. She spends so much time making sure you get what you want and it always is exactly what I want. I trust her implicitly now. It can take a while, the salon can be pretty busy and there might be some waiting time. But Jessie is specifically totally worth it. Her haircut prices have gone up a bit, but her color prices are low for her skill level- she is priceless. I love her and I keep going back and I get 1000 compliments. read more

Karen is AMAZING, she gets 5 stars! I came here for the DavaCut and as you can see in the pictures the transformation is WOW! She is a true perfectionist! I know a lot of people say that about stylists but Karen really is. She wouldn't even let me cross my legs while she was cutting my hair because she wanted it to be perfect. Not sure if that's a Devacut rule or hers but I don't care, I like it. The process was a little long but I don't care. It felt amazing and it looks amazing. Because my results are so great, I bough the products which I never do. I took off a star because of the salon. I wanted to take off 2 stars but I'm generous with the 4th. While I was getting my hair rinsed, one of the shampoo girls didn't even know how to rinse the color out of one lady's hair. She kept asking the shampoo girl that was doing mine. I was scared for the lady getting her hair rinsed. She kept asking how long should she rinse her hair and when can she tell it's been rinsed all the way, YIKES! She told the lady "don't be nervous." Ummmmmm too late missthang, I'm nervous for her. Secondly, while I was getting my hair washed, they had the back door cracked. It's 28 degrees outside, so needless to say I was freezing my lady parts off. I couldn't WAIT to get under the hairdryer just to warm up. People kept saying it was cold and the door was still left cracked. Thirdly, when it was time for me to check out, I was a little indecisive about what to get because I didn't want to spend $200 in just products which I believe is understandable to almost anyone. It took me about 5 minutes to decide and she was clearly feeling impatient. She forgot to take off my discount for the review and when I went into my Yelp to show her my profile a 25% coupon popped up. She told me it wasn't valid and I could only get 20% off instead. Wth?!?! So be prepared to only get 20% and not 25% even though that's what THEIR business says on Yelp. Oh yeah, the same girl that was at the front desk was the same one that was rinsing the lady's hair out, go figure. I will absolutely be back to see Karen! She's the real MVP! Note: It would be a great idea if they started offering beverages such as water, tea, and wine, most salons do nowadays. Not sure if they have them or they don't. I did ask for a bottle of water and they gave me one but I don't know if that's standard or not. read more

I was seen almost immediately which was great and my stylist listened intently to what I was looking for. I specifically said I wanted to take the red tones out of my hair and go no darker on the shade. I was about a shade 6. I also said I wanted my cut to be minimal; long layers and keep as much length as possible. I ended up with a shade 4, very dark, still red and short choppy layers. I was amazed! She also left the color processing for a long time on sections of my forehead which afterwards burned and scabbed. She managed to get color on my cheekbone, in my ear, and down the back of my neck. This is why I hesitate to trust stylists with my hair. It looked shiny and healthy after the blowout but the color and cut were not at all what I wanted! Will never go back. read more

I saw the great reviews on Yelp for Deva cuts & styling and messaged the owner Theresa about a week and a half ago on Yelp to schedule an appointment. I graduated from college last week and needed my curls to look great for the photos. Theresa recommended Karen. Karen was only available the day before my graduation, so I came in the night before (and made sure I had a satin pillowcase and scarf for that night). Karen started right on time and was very warm and welcoming. She asked about how I cared for my hair and asked how I liked to wear my curls. I told her I generally like tight and defined curls- especially with the humidity. She told me a great deal about the products she was using, but used very little of the actual products on my hair. Given the weather I wasn't expecting completely defined picture perfect curls, but what I got was far from that. My hair was frizzy and my roots and the strands around my hairline were just wavy (I have corkscrew curls so that's significant). Karen sold me a $20 Deva curl pomade and told me to use it to define my curls the following day. Everyone at the shop told me how amazing I looked while I was in there. I wanted so badly to believe them because I really needed this to work. I hoped that they were seeing something I wasn't. When I got home 45 minutes later, my roots were out of control and the frizz made my hair 3x larger. It was clear my hair needed way more product before it was dried. I wrapped my hair in a silk scarf and slept on a silk pillowcase that night and turned on my de-humidifier. When I woke up, the frizz was a nightmare. The pomade was useless at this point. Luckily, I woke up early enough to put together an up-do. I should have saved my money and done that to begin with- $70 down the drain. I still haven't opened that pomade. read more

My mom and I got our hair colored and cut by Cassandra about a 2 weeks ago for our birthday. And within a week both of our color faded and became so much lighter. I wanted a balayage and showed her a picture of what I wanted but the hair came out the complete opposite. My hair is naturally dark brown and I wanted a natural look but with some lighter chocolate and chestnut shades. Instead of having the shades and lighter pieces, she dyed my entire head except the roots one color which was sooo much lighter, almost orange blonde. I was so unhappy so I got it redone from her and even though it was still not the balayage I wanted, it looked better than the first time so I left happy. Literally after 3-4 days I started noticing my hair and my moms hair was looking lighter and faded. I wasn't sure why. I took a video of how my hair looked at the time i got it done and it is clearly different. I'm not sure what products they are using but I'm pretty sure color suppose to last way more than just 3-4 days. I'm soooo disappointed because I came here after I researched and saw the great reviews. Cassandra was very nice and gave me a great haircut but clearly she doesn't know how to do balayage as it was in the pictures I showed her. Now my hair looks like my roots are grown out because nothing is blended and everything already looks faded. So disappointed that we paid so much money for this service that only lasted a week. read more

(Stylist was Karen) I went in today with the goal of reshaping my hair to even out the ugly layers that didn't blend, and Karen did not disappoint! I LOVE my new shape. Everything else about the experience was just ok. The detangling was a bit painful. Devacurl products are absolutely useless for detangling my hair. I hate deva gels, but gave them a another chance today. It flaked like crazy when Karen scrunched my hair. Also the product distribution should have been done in sections, not all over at once. There are areas where the product has built up, hardened, and left a white residue while particularly the hair underneath the top layers are not very defined at all. Which makes my hair dry in frizzy clumps that are difficult to pull apart. The process is way too long with some unnecessary steps (Which makes it too expensive) that I never do at home, and get amazing results with the products and routine I use. The cut was fantastic, thanks Karen! Devacurl products are just terrible for my hair overall. I'll definitely come back *strictly as needed* for another shape up. read more
