I never really felt at home anywhere until I met the instructors at Hwang Martial Arts. Our family wanted to start but we did not have much money to spend. Their plans were the most reasonable around. I quickly found out that at Hwang Martial Arts it is not just another self defense school; it is a life changing experience! They teach that it is not just about self defense, but that it is about a change in how you live your life and act on a day to day bases. Furthermore, they are an integral part of all their students' lives. It does not matter whether your favorite is Mr. Chris, Mrs. Stacy, Mr. Weeks or Mr. Hall because they all have true interests in their student's lifestyle and health. Over the past 3 years my children have grown and learned that martial arts' training is about oneself, their achievements, both in class and in public school. Because the business is a family owned and operated we have grown to be good friends with the Weeks' and all the other instructors there. I would not trust my family and especially my kids with anyone else. There is no doubt in my mind that joining here has made a huge positive impact on our lives! Scott Stephenson

I had a membership to a gym right next to Hwang Martial Arts and passed by it every day, not certain of whether we could just go in. Finally, we visited them. My boys were very interested and I was unsure. When we sat down and discussed this, I found Hwang Martial Arts to be very affordable. Not only that, but my children had no male role model in their lives at all. Now they have incredible male teachers, who demand respect, but at the same time, give positive motivation, teaching the kids the most important principals of being a solid person. Not only did my kids take advantage of Tae Kwon Do, but I attended the Muay Thai classes for fun and exercise. I had no idea that Mr. Weeks and Mr. Hall would change my perspective completely on physical fitness and how much my mind, body and spirit require physical exercise. My confidence level was very low when we started and I didn't see anything extraordinary about myself. All of that has changed drastically in just a year. Now, when I talk about my life, about fighting techniques and working out, people are very intrigued. My passion and zeal for life have skyrocketed. I went from being another single mom to being an extraordinary, tough woman nicknamed "Killer". I've lost a lot of fear in going places with my children, and gained a lot of confidence in my ability to defend my family in an aggressive situation. In short, just going to these classes has changed my entire life. It opened me up to receive positive things that I believe are coming to me because of my increased confidence level and better perspective. Such a small step, but what a huge difference it has made in the quality of our lives! The Longs Joy, Bethani, Garrett and Jeffri Reilly

Steve was helpful in helping us determine what we wanted to do long term with Tae Kwon Do. He allowed us to try out Judo classes for a week as well as the upper Kata and sparring class. My son loves coming here and although seating can be limited, we do too! Tip: During belt testing, bring a lawn chair and snacks for your kiddo. This place is also great and making sure you get your money's worth! We ordered swords for kata class and they came in but Steve and team weren't happy with the quality so they promised new ones while letting us have the one that came in to use until the better ones come in. They really look and act like a family here. There is a parent association group that helps raise money for tournaments, etc. All in all, we love it here and it's worth the drive for us!

My kids have grown so much in their skills and in themselves. It's awesome because we are getting into even cooler combos and moves now. Jackson and all the instructors pour into these kids. The kids feel it and want to give their best. Everyone cheers everyone on. it's a wonderful environment to be apart of.

I went here a few weeks ago for a belt test for my friend. I've always found martial arts very…read moreinteresting and I've even lived in Japan for part of my life. This Kenpo school seemed very intense vs some of the other martial arts that I've witnessed and been involved with, I worked for a Muay Thai instructor for about two years. Any way. While I know there are differences in the schools of thought and the level of discipline that is needed in each practice I always knew there to be one thing in common. Respect. Respect for the 'class room, the art, the student, the teacher, just through and through everything was based on respect. I found it very concerning that this school didn't seem to follow that. They spoke of money openly and about their policies on their tests. Not unusual but they did it in a joking manner that I've know to only be associated with people who were clearly taking advantage of the individuals they were taking money from. This was after the conclusion of the belt test itself. As for the instructor himself, and I do apologize for the fact that I cannot remember his name just that he was the owner/founder/head instructor. Well I know belt tests can be rough, but there was a harshness that seemed to be contained by the man, like if there wasn't an audience and wasn't a live video going he would have been acting differently. That he was in himself restrained in what was his natural state. I hadn't intended to write any reviews but after over hearing a conversation between a mother and son tonight I felt a warning needed to be put out there. To protect the individuals involved I will not be using their names. However, while eating out tonight I couldn't help but over hear this family talking. When I inquired further I discovered that tonight it appears that the instructor called one of his students out to the front of the class. From what I gathered this isn't unusual. But he then proceeded to curse out, berate, and threaten to have his 'black belts come in and beat this students ass' and then kick out seemingly ban this student over what appeared to be a comment they made on social media that the instructor didn't agree with. I called my friend who attends this school and he admitted that he isn't surprised that this happened. While I can appreciate the idea that one is responsible for what One posts on a social media site -such as Yelp, Twitter, or Facebook- there is no reason for someone in a leadership, instructor role to do that. Publicly shaming someone who had put their trust in that person's leadership. From what I gather this follows more of the unprofessional and what now seems to be abusive behavior and I will not be allowing my children to attend this school.

It is family owned and operated, which is convenient because all the instructors know where you are in the martial art and can help you learn. It's a great gimmick-free school with adult and child classes. As a special-needs kid, I learned to have confidence, social skills, and other life skills here. This is not a school where you just stand in a line, practice punching and kicking for an hour, then go home. It goes far beyond that; you learn to be street-smart here. Any time I've ever needed to defend myself in real life, I've used the skills I learned here and defended myself successfully. The instructors create a great feeling atmosphere here, especially during sparring. If you feel nervous, they don't put you on the spot, but help you get comfortable. If you're looking to start up a new hobby, or looking for a place to teach your child responsibility and discipline, here is the place.
