I highly recommend TMC Restoration. I recently had a chair upholstered and it was an awesome experience. Claude came to my home with books of sample materials, taking a picture of my chair, asking questions and offering advice, he showed me what my chair would look like in my preferred samples. He was knowledgeable in assisting me with my choice, and explaining the expert craftsmanship that would go into rebuilding, refinishing and upholstering. A day later Audrey called to tell me the chair had just been examined and they were looking forward to restoring it. I would be so pleased with the workmanship because they employ the very best and if I had any questions don't hesitate to call her. I would strongly caution that you DO NOT contract TMC Restoration for any furniture restoration work. TMC grossly overcharged, and their workmanship is extremely substandard: * TMC refinished my dining table although it looked good cosmetically the entire table collapsed during a dinner with 10 guests. The dishes and food spilled on the floor and on guests. * TMC refinished and reupholstered my 8 dining chairs. The screws used for the cushioned seats were too long and protruded under the pressure of people's weight. Some guests suffered discomfort. * TMC refinished my antique tea wagon. The stripping and refinishing were substandard, and it was returned so unstable that it is no longer usable. TMC refused to provide a reasonable financial adjustment. Incredibly they refused to take responsibility and claimed that natural wood movement, my uneven flooring, or misuse may have caused the dining table to collapse -- a claim that is totally ridiculous. I have contacted the Ontario Ministry of Consumer Protection to complain about TMC's misleading discussions, poor workmanship, and discussions that led me to significantly overpay for work not completed to agreed standard. Unable to do restoration on Lazy Boy Chairs. Hired to reupholster chair, but mechanisms were ruined. Unable to lift legs to height of seat and back did not recline without second person pushing it down! The seat itself and lumbar region was like concrete although discussing with salemen requesting soft, with down which they do not use, but not unbearably firm like sitting on a rock. When checking the chair in warehouse, before delivery, told it must return to Lazy Boy for the mechanical repair as they do not do. (as they just make all insides not function). I am starting to see a pattern. I too had the salesman come and give his pitch about replacing would cost this and today's value of what I paid when I bought it was tens of thousands of dollars. It is a solid pine kitchen table, 4 chairs and 2 leafs. The finish on the table was not looking too good after 30 years and the chairs wrungs (the braces that keep the legs together) were coming out. The salesman (Brian) went on about how they were going to break the chairs down, clean them up and rebuild them back to their original shape. NOT. When they returned it it looked great but Within a few months the chairs braces started to come out again. I sent them back to have them re-done. Now 1 1/2 years later they are worse than when I sent them. Every chair there is at least 1 brace falling out, the top backs of the chairs are loss and falling off. I should have kept my $5400 which I was told was my covid discounted price and just had the table top sanded and refinished. Looking back I feel stupid and taken advantage of. We have had a very unfortunate experience with TMC Restoration. Our antique walnut (0ver 100 years old) dining room table and 6 chairs have been in our family over 40 years. TMC Restoration was to refinish the table and chairs and reupholster the chairs with new cloth and padding. When the furniture was picked up we lent them a sample drawer from the set to help them match the colour (some chars ended up with a different shade) When they called to say it was all finished and ready to be delivered, well before the deadline, this made us happy. The two gentleman that delivered the table and chairs attempted to put the table together. The table looked good till we tried opening it and insert the leaf. It is when we noticed the two halves of the table didn't close properly with the leaf in it. We also noticed there was a gap between the padding and chair. The delivery men took the furniture back to the shop to be fixed. A couple of days later I spoke to the person in charge of deliveries and explained what the main issue was, that when the table was set up with the leaf in the middle, a gap was evident and it could not lock into proper position. I did stress with him that the issue was with the leaf (middle piece) When the middle piece rested under the table top the two halves of the table closed properly (including the squirt). We were called again a week or so later that the table had been fixed and set a delivery date. The same two delivery men delivered the table and chairs and again attempted to put the table together with the leaf in. It seemed to work fine, except for two issues. One MAJOR issue the skirt had a gap of over a quarter inch. That was never present in the time we had it in our family. The other issue was that one half of the leaf stood 1/8" higher than the table top., Again something that was never seen before. Again the furniture went back to the shop for TMC Restoration to fix the issues. This was very troubling, and I again explained the issues to the company contact. He started with very poor excuses on the age of the table and how things can shift. It is also very evident that they cut a piece of the squirt thinking that it had something to do with the closing of the table. You can see the wood splinters on the one side. They didn't even try to hide it with stain. We are very disappointed and ashamed to tell any one how much we paid for the low caliber job done by TMC Restoration. We are very very sorry to ever had them try to restore the furniture. My last advise for anyone thinking of using them for any service, take your money and run, RUN. Is there a zero? My 84-year old mother was convinced to cut a SIX THOUSAND DOLLAR cheque to re-upholster a single chair. This was down from the original EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLAR quote. Do not use this company. Lessons: 1. Renting a mall space is a great way to add an *appearance* of legitimacy. Avoid. 2. My daughter-in-law had used the services of this company to refinish a huge antique oak dining room table. She was very pleased with the end result and so I proceeded with no further research. WHAT A COLOSSAL MISTAKE I NOW REALIZE! In June, 2020, I was visited by Brian, the sales rep for TMC, to obtain an estimate on refinishing four antique cherry tables including a Duncan Phyfe dining table. We were downsizing to a new home and I thought that I could have a hardier finish on them and get more relaxed use from them. Included was a beautiful oval Italian Provincial coffee table for which we had a protective glass made 57 years ago. I thought that I could dispense with the heavy glass. As told by the other reviewers here, Brian pulled the same act quoting very high and pretending to call the office with the same story line of business being slow because of COVID, etc. Because these tables mean so much to me, I agreed to pay $8,500.00. Yes, I know this sounds crazy. When the refinished tables were returned to us they looked wonderful. Within about eight months, the varnish rippled and we were told they had applied too much and we sent the dining table, coffee table and end table back. Only the drum table was unaffected. When they were returned the second time, the finishes did not match. The end table and coffee table were left with the wood unsealed and rough looking. The coffee table was so bad that we refused to accept it. There were even large dents in the wood. Back it went. After a GREAT DEAL OF ARGUMENT, TMC agreed to try and repair the damage. We have been without it since last October. It is March 2022 now. It was returned a week ago and is a mess. The damage is irreparable and the table irreplaceable. I can't believe the job they did for me, I was originally told that they provide a very high end service, I truly can't believe the amazing jobs they did on all three pieces. I'm very very pleased. I was very disappointed in my meeting with salesman Brian from TMC Restoration. First, he insisted my husband be present, but once I established I would be paying for it, my husband didn't have to stick around. I needed a wing back chair reupholstered and the initial estimate was $7822!! I couldn't believe it - for a chair I purchased for $400. After saying that was far too much, he kept dropping the price, until finally he said could I pay $2500 and he would call his company and see if it could be done for that but it would take 3 months or more. I finally said no thanks and thanks for your time. Not a very pleasant experience at all and so very disappointed in how greedy this company must be to use such tactics. Absolute terrible experience. We had a gentleman come to our door with fabulous things to say about this company and warning us that it will be expensive but that the work they do will speak for itself. We paid 6K for our table to be done up front. We got our table back UNFINISHED. There was no stain on certain parts of the table, the mechanisms weren't touched (when we were told they would fix them), the table was unlevelled (they blamed it on our floor). They refused to offer back any money, or help us at all in the situation. The table was sent back to have the job done AGAIN. My name is Stephanie Pollard-Scott, and TMC Restoration recently did some work on my mother-in-law's chaise lounge and couch cushions, her name is Carlene Scott.  I'm writing to thank you all so, so very much for doing a WONDERFUL job in bringing Carlene's pieces back to life! The chaise lounge is a solid wood piece that was brought over from Jamaica, carved by hand and loved ever since. When Carlene was looking for a company that restored furniture with style and care in mind, she reached out to TMC Restoration for a quote. David came over for the appointment and was gracious as he was knowledgeable, allowing us to explore our taste while giving pointers about the final look.  Once the order was placed, TMC had two movers arrive who treated the chaise lounge like their own, making sure this solid wood (read: very heavy) structure didn't hit anything while it was being carried out or delivered. We got our chaise lounge and cushions in time for Christmas 2021 -- you wouldn't believe it was the same one. The final product is a beautiful velvet material in crimson, with a contrasting Moroccan-inspired red pattern on the edging, bolster, and the two cushions. We absolutely love it! I contacted TMC and they provided great assistance and helped me fix the issues that were point of concern for me.

I overpaid, they under-delivered. They did not perform a complete restoration of my chair. After getting a quote from the salesperson, placing my deposit and sending my chair to their facility, I received a call saying that they were unable to paint or restore the base of my swivel chair. They said that they wouldn't be able to do a good job on it and didn't want to send it out as they couldn't guarantee the quality of work their sub-contractor would perform. Then I got another call saying that it would cost an additional $400 to repair the damaged arm on the chair. When the work was completed I got another call saying that it would be an additional $200 to "Fabrigard" the chair. I agreed to protect the fabric and was told that the chair was with their QA Department for a final inspection prior to shipping. When the chair arrived it was covered in dust and debris. I checked the stitching and was able to pull out several loose threads. Sensing my extreme displeasure, the delivery guys advised me that the condition of the chair was "unacceptable" and would send the chair back for cleaning. A few days later the chair was shipped back to me, but prior to me seeing the final product, TMC had already taken final payment for the chair. Too many compromises were made on my part to have my chair "restored"...maybe that's what the "TMC" stands for? read more

I had a very similar experience to an earlier poster. I ran into them at a mall and had a piece that needed to be reupholstered. They had someone at my house within 24 hours and did a very hard sell, but it was an hour before I was told the price after he made a big show about slashing various fees here and there, crossing things out on his notepad. Nonetheless, an hour in, the price was $2,000 above another estimate from a reputable company. There was the fake call to the head office, he showed me many photos of the quality work they'd done, etc. An odd thing: They could not promise the work would be done in less than three months. Which I found odd. You do a insanely hard sell with lots of silly antics but can't complete a small job for months? Needless to say I grew suspicious and opted against hiring them. Do not give into the pressure. And understand: Their prices are WAY above average. read more

Recently told by my 97 yr oid mother that she met a salesman in a mall and discussed refinishing a small phone table for the cost of $2,000. After hearing about this I contacted the company and was assured that they would cancel the contract, return the $1,000 CASH deposit. I now hear that they had the salesman contact my mother and they reduced the cost, I don't know by how much but to me that doesn't mater. In any case she has decided to proceed with the work, against my objections. Their tactics are such that I have to question the real cost of anything they quote on. They quote high and hope for the best and in a lot of cases are successful in getting what they quoted. They claim to be within the range in the industry, me being in Facility Management and dealing with various contractors on a daily basis I can can assure that is not the case. Funny as I was reading these reviews they sounded so similar to my experience. We got a quote to restore a kitchen table and two chairs that was nearly in total to be $10,000. For restoration. When we objected to the price the sales person was rude and told us to get back to him in a year. He kept saying how wonderful a job the company will do, but seriously anyone can buy a halfway decent brand new set for less than that cost. The salesperson tried the hard sell approach and brought the cost down but wouldn't take no for an answer. Can't believe the price gouge from this company. Look online and you'll find restoration costs are at most $1000. Seriously. Does this company do that much of a better job I need to pay 6x or 10x more? I'd never deal with this company. I allowed them to come to my home a week prior to the scheduled appointment time, what a mistake. After 2 hours of listening to a bunch of "old time" stories not related to the chair I was looking to get re-covered, I gave up and told him I had plans. He offered no assistance in relation to materials, textures, colors, and gave few details about what the process would actually entail. He flipped quickly through a binder of their "quality work" giving me no time to look at anything in detail. The first quote given was beyond ridiculous and his "final" quote (which he refused to even write down saying "it could change tomorrow because of changes in costs related to co-vid 19." came after a "call to the office") What a scam. This was an older gentleman who struggled to move around with these heavy catalogues, I felt bad for him, I was glad to hear he was getting paid for his time, but hope he can retire, just not on my dime! read more

Than he says I know is seems high , but what you have here is a great investment for the next 30years . Really . Me an my wife were silent looking at each other. Ran into them at the mall. Had a piece that needed some fixing. Arranged the quotation. This meeting takes forever. Do not put yourself through this. It took over an hour of the sales person repeating themselves about the highest quality and showing us pictures of furniture that costs in the tens of thousands. No surprise that when we finally got a number we were right there, in the tens of thousands. Slashing the price in half did nothing for us and we promptly said our goodbyes but not without some ridiculous sales antics of calling the warehouse to get another couple hundred off. Yuk Two things I learned from this 1. When setting up a meeting like this ask how long it will take. If they can't say make sure you make it clear that you only have 15 minutes to dedicate. 2. Never buy anything the day it is proposed. Sleep on it. Compare prices. Even if you like it, that business is not going anywhere and should not be pressuring you. Wait. Wait. Wait. Delighted with the results! We had 2 sofas, 2 chairs and an ottoman reupholstered by TMC Restoration. It took close to 10 weeks to complete the work, but well worth the wait ... the quality of the fabric and workmanship is first class! They retouched all the wooden elements for free ... which was over and above what we expected. We first saw TMC at a summer market in Collingwood and then asked them to come to our home for a quote. Having sales people in your home is always uncomfortable, but honestly, the process was painless. Highly recommend you take that old piece of furniture lying around and make it beautiful again ... Have been thinking of getting a sofa reupholstered for awhile. Researched them on line and they seemed kind of sketchy. Some of the great reviews had "assisted reviews" on them - whereas homeowner reviews gave them a 2-4/10 So I checked them out. Saw them at a mall. Made an appt. A sales rep, Brian. (16 years experience) came to see me the same day. Gave me a quote of $7338 for my antique couch! That was totally unaffordable! So I told him I'm going to get a new couch instead. He then continue to slander the furniture company. Prices dropped to $2100 because a corporate contract was on hold so he has 20 spots to fill. So he's willing to give it to me for that price. But only if I give him a 50% deposit THAT night. Wouldn't give me time to decide, even though I said I would call him right in the morning. Wanted to give a big chunk of money. And in between my explanation he stood up and started packing. Rude body language. Aggressive sales tactic and made a sexist comment. I confronted him and he said he's an experienced salesperson of 16 years. So ive lost my chance to refurb with them -- he may give me a call a year from now to see if I'm still interested. But why would I be interested in a company who hires rude aggressive sales person. Also please do your research before Sig jong anything with them. I also confronted them about their sketchy business reviews and "scammed". He claims its their jealous competitors or customers who didnt like their finished fabric. I came across the TMC booth at the CNE. The person taking the information was remarkably polite, and after leaving my information there, I left happy, looking forward to hearing from them for the quotation. I received a call a few days after to book the actual appointment. While the call started perfectly normal, the representative from TMC gave me a funny feeling. Certain questions just seemed odd, she asked if I was going to have anyone else there to decide on whether to go ahead, and that if I were going to consult with someone, it would be better if that person was there. I wouldn't say that the representative was aggressive, but a bit pushy for my tastes. Anyway, after the call, I forgot about it, till I decided to do a quick Google search on the company, and found out that other people have had similar uncertainties that I have, and that the company was very poorly reviewed on a different site. When they called to confirm, they called my home where my mother picked up, got confused as to who they were talking to (they thought she was my wife, no big deal). When I called later to postpone till I felt a bit more confident about whether to make a purchase like this, the lady on the line was quite abrupt, and going on about how I said I told them in the other call I didn't have a wife, but the lady (my mother) who they initially talked to identified as such. It was such a trivial matter of a small confusion, I couldn't really understand why she was trying to make a big deal out of it. I was so turned off that instead of calling to postpone, I just said I was simply not interested anymore. With the way the call ended, I am glad I didn't bother to postpone. I did a little research online on the company using a quick Google search. A clip that was posted online only reaffirmed my belief that cancelling the appointment was a good idea. I hate hard sells, and I dislike insincere customer service. Whoever the person was at the CNE booth should be given the responsibilities to be their sales person, because I would be a lot more inclined to buy a service from someone who is polite. read more

I took my parents' old kitchen table and decided to have it restored. It's a plain wooden table (the sales rep told me it was teak, but how would I know?!), the wood was in fairly good condition. The table was a little wobbly but not too bad. The rep quoted us approximately $6000 for this job, but he knew we'd NEVER be able to pay that. So he said he'd give us a deal for a little less than $4000. We were suckers, so we took it. He wouldn't let us think about it because he said he'd get in trouble for giving us such an awesome deal. In the end, I felt like a fool. They did a good job, but for that price I could've gotten an awesome brand new table set. Keep in mind that this was just a table - no chairs. I don't know of any other places that restore old furniture, but if you find one get a quote from them instead. read more

I strongly recommendation TMC Restoration I wanted to restore my antique roll top desk that was a mess with veneer lifting, slats falling apart, sloppy drawers, etc. I had other companies look at the desk but no one wanted to take the job on and said it was not restorable. I called TMC after a friend referred them and they had no hesitation taking on the job. I went to their facility to discuss some options and could not believe the size of the place and the huge amount of furniture being restored. They have a variety of workers with different specialties with an elaborate wood shop. They said they could remanufacture missing or worn parts no different than restoring antique cars. I witnessed other jobs having veneer being replaced and other elaborate repairs. The entire facility was impressive and all the jobs in progress looked great for both wood furniture and upholstery. I got my roll top back after about 10 weeks and it is just spectacular. I highly recommend TMC especially if you have a tough job to tackle. Regular jobs for wood or upholstery are child's play for the TMC crew. read more

Avoid at all cost. Their initial quote was double what I thought it should be but but they convinced me that they would do so much more than any other company. The end bill was double the initial estimate, $9000 for three pieces of furniture and it started to fall apart after a couple of years. I have now thrown away one chair and the other chair and love seat are in worse shape than before I had them reupholstered. Yikes ! Almost got ripped off myself. We met the lady that represents this company at our local Mall in Brampton. She called us a few days later because we agreed to have a salesman come out to give us an estimate. Anyways, he did (in horrible weather) and he quoted 1800 dollars for a small hall console table and narrow wood trimmed mirror that matched it. Heck, we only paid about 350 to 400 dollars for it and mirror to begin with but wanted a change from the gold oak to an expresso stain. We told him absolutely no way would we pay that. He tried to give the spiel about how good their craftmanship is blah blah blah! Don't let them baffle you. These people are over charging large, just waiting for the next SUCKER. Extraordinary high price, very unprofessionally done job on upholstery, damaged wood frames (solid Teak frame), late delivery (2 weeks), quick to take certified checks, slow for picking furniture for repair, long late again, hardware falling of the sofa, wrinkled upholstery, still not fixed damages done by TMC Restoration. They tell you anything to get away with this scam. Talked with TMC at CNE, asking for changes the upholstery on sofa, love seat and single chair. Salesman, who came to our house was talking a lot about how good job is done by the company, excellent fabric etc. From the time, furniture was pick up from our place, everything went bad. Delivery crew was saying, that they have to take furniture back and forth very often, that people are shouting on them and certified checks or money order was the only way to keep money coming to company. When company representative came to our house after so called fixing damages on our furniture, he wanted cover deep cuts in the wood by painting color on the cuts, said that people can not used some kind of cloth to be seating on that fabric, because it can pick up thread of fabric, and finally offered to give us back $300 on payment of $4 700 if we don't come public. I had a similar experience in that I wanted a quote on getting some furniture refinished and after meeting a rep at a mall I gave my information. When I was contacted, they asked when they could come and that my wife should be there. I explained that I am retired and my wife works and is not interested. They arranged for an appointment 2 days later. That day, I received a call from a dispatcher who wanted to confirm the appointment and that my wife would be there. I explained the situation again but they stated that my wife need to be there. I explained that it was my furniture and my money not my wife's and that she had no interest in being there. They still insisted that my wife be there so I told them to consider me as single and they still argued with me. I bumped into TMC at the mall and fell in love with fabric they had on a wing back chair. I have a pair of wing back chairs that have been sitting in storage, I was contemplated whether to throw them out or not. The mall rep assured me that when they were done with my wing back chairs they would be good as new..... And she was right!
