I traveled from Maryland to visit your store and had already spent over $100 on cigars during my visit. While outside talking with some regular customers, one of them recommended a cigar that he thought I would enjoy. I went back into the humidor with him so he could show me the cigar he was referring to. As I was looking at the cigar, I took out my phone to take a picture of the band. My intention was simple: I wanted to remember the name of the cigar because I was planning to smoke it outside with the guys and wanted to be able to purchase it again in the future if I liked it. Before I could even purchase the cigar, JC snatched it out of my hand and told me that I could not take pictures because "all you're going to do is order it online." I was shocked by both his behavior and his accusation. Not only was his assumption completely wrong, but physically taking the cigar from my hand was disrespectful and unprofessional. As a paying customer who had just spent over $100 in your establishment, I expected to be treated with courtesy and respect. Instead, I was treated as if I was trying to do something dishonest. There was no attempt to politely explain a store policy or ask me not to take photos. JC immediately jumped to conclusions and handled the situation in a manner that I found offensive. What made the situation even more concerning was what I learned afterward. Several customers outside told me that this type of behavior is not unusual for JC. They explained that he has a reputation for speaking to customers disrespectfully and then later apologizing after other customers confront him about his behavior. In my opinion, an apology only after being checked by customers does not excuse the original conduct. This was only my second visit to the Kingstowne location, and unfortunately it will be my last. I frequently travel from Maryland and have visited your Woodbridge location on numerous occasions. I have never been treated this way there. The staff in Woodbridge have always been welcoming, professional, and appreciative of their customers' business. Because I felt this situation deserved attention from ownership, I visited your website and learned that you are the owner. I also called the Manassas store and left a message requesting a callback. I was informed that neither you nor Brian, who I was told assists you, were available at the time. I believe customer complaints should be taken seriously because they provide an opportunity to improve the customer experience. No customer should have merchandise snatched from their hand or be accused of intending to undermine the business simply because they took a picture of a cigar they were considering purchasing.
