There is a small admission charge, and while modest, it clearly supports the upkeep of the site, which remains clean, orderly, and well maintained. Inside the gift shop, the two young women (definitely students as they were working on a class paper) working the counter were friendly and quick to point me toward their display of fridge magnets amongst so many other trinkets and mementoes. After paying for admission and the magnet, Mrs. K. and I stepped back outside and followed the path along the creek toward the falls. Even in late winter, with the drizzle coming and going, the setting felt peaceful, the kind of place where the sound of water takes over long before the falls come into view. The waterfall itself is undeniably impressive. The free‑fall drop is higher than American Falls at Niagara, and the roar was loud enough to fill the entire basin even on a rainy morning. Visited the beautiful waterfall today! It was a short 3-5 minute walk through the back of the gift shop. Price is $2 per person and it was worth it. We arrived at 1:05 and they were setting up for a wedding. It wasn't crowded when we first got there, but after about 30 minutes it started to fill up with tourists/visitors. Saturday hours are only 4 hours from noon to 4:00, so keep that in mind. read more

After two very challenging days of hiking, including a very strenuous trip earlier in the day to Talulah Gorge State Park, I figured this would be a nice way to cap off my trip on the way back home to SC. The admission is two dollars for adults and one dollar for kids and I think it's well worth it. It's an easy trail that is less than a quarter mile round trip. The payoff is a really beautiful and tall waterfall. The path is well maintained. There are a few historic artifacts and interpretive signs to give the historic background of the area and the historic deadly flood in 77. I was fortunate when I went that there weren't a lot of people. I had the falls basically to myself for several minutes until people started showing up and bigger numbers. Even with others around, it is still nice. If you were anywhere near it, I absolutely recommend it. The falls are located on the campus of Toccoa College, a Christian university that has some trails and a few historic buildings. The town is charming in the historic city center. read more

I want to start this off by saying Toccoa Falls is a beautiful spot to get married at, but I do have some feedback from when I got married there. I recommend everyone who decides to get married here to not use the reception hall as they do not allow outside catering and make you choose from 2 caterers of their choices that they handpicked. One of the caterers we could not get in contact with, and the other caterer was super sweet but since we were stuck with only being able to use her we had no other option! So with that being said, we had to use her and it wasn't cheap and that brings me to the bad part of the review. She offered no condiments even though we told her from the start my wife loves ranch and let me be honest the food needed condiments BIG TIME! We ordered meat loaf and herb crusted chicken for the wedding and the chicken was so dry one of the guests choked on it. On top of that we paid for drinks and the caterer ran out before we even started the actual reception. We ordered sweet tea and lemonade and the only thing that was good was the water and meatloaf. So if I were you and you want to enjoy the beautiful view I would get married there and then have your reception elsewhere to where you can have a choice and enjoy your wedding to the fullest! read more

Drive from Atlanta to see the falls. Got there on a Sunday at 3:30. Went into the gift shop and went to the bathroom. Left the gift shop and looked outside for the falls. Took every path available but couldn't find the one that led to the falls. Until some kind soul asked if we were looking for the falls. When I said, yes, he told us to go back in the gift shop and go through the back of the gift shop. On re-entering the gift shop they said that they were sorry they couldn't let us to the falls ... that all visitors have to be out of there by 4 o'clock and it was 4:01. I went to Toccoa because it was close to Tallulah. If I wasn't in the area, I would not go out of my way to see Toccoa falls. It's not at all challenging to get to. There's not a lot to see. It is beautiful, that's for sure. You enter the area and pass the college. Keep going towards the back and you'll come across a building that is the entry way to the fall. For this beautiful and sunny day outside we headed to the north Georgia mountains to visit Toccoa Falls. If you're looking for an easy hike this is more than perfect. The entire trail is about 0.40 miles and can be completed in less than 10 minutes. You'd go in through the gift shop where you'd pay about $2 per person and they would guide you through the door that leads to the trail. It's a little bit different than other trails, but pretty easy in general. At the end of the trail you'll find this majestic waterfall that is actually taller than Niagara Falls! The staff is so friendly and they explain everything to us since it was a little confusing at first. Outside of the gift shop is a pond which benches around where we had a picnic before our hike. While visiting after Tallulah Falls, we came to find that this small town loves Jesus and people. Once you park (free), you enter the welcome center/Toccoa book store and pay a small fee of $1 per person to see the waterfall. There are a couple of trees to set up a nice hammock if you would like to hang out a little longer to enjoy it. If debating if driving to these falls is worth the drive from Atlanta, the answer is a definite yes. The place is amazing. It does not feel like Georgia, but at the same time it is once you start to pay attention to the surrounding trees and greenery. The waterfall is quite large and extremely picturesque. There is an amazing calmness about it to. Pictures simply don't do it justice. For a date idea, it's an amazing place to have a picnic. Lots of rocks around to setup a blanket on, just make sure to clean up. If hiking is what's desired, this is not a great spot. I've been to Toccoa Falls before but that was many years ago, so long ago that I only remembered it was a waterfall located at a college campus. I remembered only being disappointed with it cause of the distance because during that time I wanted to little hiking distance to see the waterfall, something like Anna Ruby Falls.. Fast forward many years later, I went back with a group after hiking Panther Creek Falls. You walk through the bookstore and pay $2 fee to get through to see waterfalls, if you have a huge group, it's only $6 for the whole group. I'm not complaining about the fee because it is a college but in the past when I came, it was free. I didn't have to walk through the bookstore, the gates outside were open and you could just walk to the waterfalls. It is a very short walk, probably 3 minutes, no more than 5 minutes. Anyone, any age, any fitness level could come and enjoy the tall waterfalls. You could sit at the bench if it's available or go up closer towards the rocks to get a great view. Maybe I enjoyed Toccoa Falls more this time around because it was with a bunch of people with the same interest or I needed to walk it off after stuffing myself at Shirley's Soul Food Cafe or the fact that I needed to see a beautiful waterfall after the more difficult, we've hike at Panther Creek Falls. I came here with my hiking buddy Jamarcus T to see a beautiful waterfall and walked away with a even more beautiful story. T H E E X P E R I E N C E Toccoa Falls is a gorgeous 186 foot 'free-falling' waterfall that is MAJESTIC and INSPIRING. If you stand on the rocks or riverbed near the falls, you can feel the rush of wind the falls create. I could easily have stayed here all day if I had my children and wife with me. There are pools of calm water where you can cool off on a warm day and plenty of areas for a picnic. Located on the grounds of Toccoa Falls Christian College, you will need to enter through the Gates Cottage Gift Shop. There you will pay a nominal fee for access to the falls trail (located at the back of the store). This is the easiest hike you will ever have to such a beautiful waterfall. It's probably less than 100 yards of flat gravel-covered ground. ************ * * * * * T R A G I C H I S T O R Y Once you are near the falls you will find the memorial to the victims of the November 6th, 1977 dam break that sent an estimated 176 million gallons of water over the falls, killing 39 and injuring 60 with millions of dollars in property damage. STORY OF A FAMILY WE MET @ THE FALLS While viewing the falls I was engaged in conversation by a Florida women who was there with two teenager. She began to tell me stories of how she used to play at the top of the falls as a child and the story of the damn breaking. Soon the talk switched to the teens and their backstory. Both were found abandoned in a building by her grandchildren and left to die. The girl was 2 years old when found and had sever lacerations to her face and cigarette burns on her body. The little boy was only 10 months old and his genitalia had been mutilated to the point of needing 14 corrective surgeries by the time he was three years old. Today the teens are 15 (Jessica) and 13 (Jake). Their mom (Mary) is actually a great grandmother with great grandchildren the same age, but took on the responsibility of caring for these abandoned infants anyway. To add to her troubles, their home was totally damage in the record breaking Hurricane Wilma storm in 2005. However, despite all the circumstances, the children's test scores show them years ahead of their age groups in learning. She specifically share her story with me because the children felt peace here below the falls. They were especially overwhelmed with "all the kind people" they were meeting while on this short tour of Georgia and I was happy to be included in that group. This family touched my heart with their voluntary story of both tragedy and triumph. A whole lot of water Toccoa Falls is a 186 foot waterfall that fortunately is very easy to get too. Located on the campus of the Toccoa Falls College, the actually falls is just a very short walk from the gift shop and visitors center. You just stroll down a small path by the river and in a few hundred yards you are at the falls. The water coming over the falls certainly is impressive and there is frequently a rainbow at the bottom. Lots of cool rocks and geology in the area and some nice places to sit and take photos of the waterfall. As many times as i've been to Toccoa Falls, i'm shocked that i've never written a review! Hidden in the college grounds of Toccoa Falls College, follow the trail behind the welcome center, and you see it before you hear it. Sounds weird right, because usually it's the other way around. The falls, that are just a shade under 200 feet high, fall down in such a peaceful way, that it's not until you get closer to it. This is one of my favorite falls in GA that I can and have sat and just watched while losing track of time. If you're adventurous, hop on some of the boulders closest to the fall to get a closer view, and that's when you can really appreciate the power that wiped out the town above, all families of that town listed on a memorial plaque along the walking trail. You see wind pushing off the base of the falls, and if you wade in the water, moving towards the falls, there's a point where you just can't go any further, because the wind is so strong. All along the trail, there's a really nice creek flow to your right, and there's several benches, both stone and metal, although the walk to the falls is literally a couple of minutes. Getting access to the falls will set you back a couple of dollars, unless you're a student of Toccoa falls college, you live in Stephens County, GA or you've served in any military branch. Great place! Family visited in our way to North Carolina. We were a little confused while driving through as you drive through the schools campus (to the back of the school) and head inside the gift shop to get to the falls. There's a cute pond and park type area in front of the gift shop if you want a place to eat with your family/friends or to just hang out. I brought my dog so there was an extra fee for her to go up to the falls, but it was only $6 for the 3 of us and the dog. The walk to the falls is short and it's a nice view. Only negatives is that there is no swimming in the falls (which is understandable) and there isn't a ton of seating. The day my family came, there were quite as number of people due to a campus recruitment event. However, that did not hinder our experience at the falls! read more

PEACEFUL! Toccoa Falls is tucked away on the Toccoa Falls College campus which is just a few miles from the center of town. In order to gain access, you simply drive through the campus to the bookstore where there is a rear access door. You simply pay two dollars per person and exit tot he rear. It is a very short walk to the falls and as soon as you hear the water, there is a sense of peace and calm. We enjoyed sitting on one of the benches watching the falls and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. It is a nice place for quiet contemplation. During our visit, we had the opportunity to see a beautiful rainbow along the base of the falls. As we visited the bookstore, I was really surprised to see that there were no souvenir tees for the falls, only college tees and sweatshirts. Toccoa Falls, located on the campus of Toccoa Falls College (a private, Christian, liberal arts institution of higher education), can be considered one the most iconic places within Toccoa, GA. It is a majestic 186' high waterfall which comes plummeting to the ground below while continually feeding a large, naturally-formed pool at the bottom. I do not remember if it is against the college's rules to wade into the pool... but, regardless of whether it is or is not, it's well worth it. In addition, visiting the top of the Falls has been forbidden for many years now because of the danger associated with such high of a location without safety guards. On the hike to Little Falls (ask anyone on campus how to get there) once you've made yourself up the first few minutes of intensity, the path begins to level out. The way to the top of Toccoa Falls is not marked, because of the danger, so they've placed a large red sign on the left-hand side of the trail which informs the casual hiker that if they were to take that route it would lead to that which one should certainly not go... once again, it is against the rules and dangerous if one is stupid. Beautiful area, glad we came. Toccoa Falls is located behind the Toccoa College. It cost $2.00 for my admission and $1.00 for my husband. Its a small walk from the entrance to the falls. The walking path is decent, not a rocky difficult path at all. The falls are really great, its a peaceful area. There are some larger boulders nearer to the falls so if you are able to climb a little bit you can get closer to the falls, its a great place to check out! read more
