I sent in a last minute booking request on Sunday asking for something Monday or Tuesday, not…read morereally expecting that they'd be able to accommodate me, but Laura responded to me Sunday evening and we set up a private session for Monday morning at north Chesterman Beach. The rate for a 1-on-1 was $115.5 (including tax). I had only vague ideas about what I wanted from the session, but Laura worked with that and gave me a very rewarding session. Prior to this session, I had done lots of yoga but usually in entry-level group settings, so I was hoping to get some tips to take my practice to a higher level, and Laura helped me be more aware of and refine the details of what I was doing. I mentioned I was a musician, so we finished with some breath work that I will take back into my music practice, followed by a very relaxing meditation on breath. The setting on the beach really enhanced the experience, hearing and watching the waves crash. The beach wasn't at all busy Monday morning which was great for focusing. The session was well worth the price, and I'm very grateful that Laura offered to work with me on such short notice. Definitely would recommend to others looking for a special yoga experience in Tofino!

After disembarking there's washrooms and a cafe on a boat. The walk to the hot springs is stunning, through the lush rainforest on a boardwalk. The path is well maintained and clear. The trail is about 30-40 minutes depending on how fast you walk. There are change rooms and bathrooms for you. The hot springs themselves are underwhelming and small. We actually opted not to even bother to go in but the view is breathtaking and it's a nice place to have a picnic.

And it only appeared to be getting worse as we left. The government really needs to limit how many licenses it hands out to tour companies because it seems like anyone who wants to get in is trying to milk the cash cow, at the expense of the experience. Tour companies need to push the government to step in for the good of their businesses. Put some controls in place to preserve the experience. Limit the number of companies based on seniority, limit the number of boats or people daily, and stagger arrivals. The place itself is beautiful, but greed is spoiling it.

We had signed up for a restorative yoga session and expected a slower class with prolonged holds, but what we experienced was almost like a nap session. We held around 6 postures for the whole class, with almost 15 minutes just laying down on a bolster. Maybe other classes would be more fun, but I feel like the restorative class was not worth it.

Long beach is 10km in length but feels longer with soft golden sand stretching as far as the eye can see. Looking out on the pacific ocean there is nothing between you and Japan. Turning with your back to the ocean you can see the pacific rim national park - part of which Long Beach sits in. On the edge of the beach between the sand and trees are the remains of massive trees - created by the strong storms the coastline gets every winter. I visited with my husband on our honeymoon 7 years ago. We stayed locally and visited Long beach several times. There is something magical about the place that just kept making us want to see it one more time.
