It was my first at this location. Unique style food. I tried a dish that had cubes of melon and cubes of pork. It was delicious. I also tried one of the barbacoa tacos. There was another dish just can't recall the name. Everything was delicious. I sat at the bar and the bartender was really nice and informative on telling me that you get seated outside by reservation. They also have a social gathering on certain days. It's a small clean establishment and decor is modern. The drinks were delicious too. read more

Went for drinks with friends on a Saturday night. Toloa has a beautiful bar ambiance. The crowd picked up around 10:30-11. A few things: - I was on a waitlist for a table in case there were cancellations or no shows. There were at least 3 tables open at 11pm so I asked the host how the waitlist was looking and if I could have a table. We were seated with no problem after asking. Reservation highly encouraged. -Food was good but the 12am taco options were great! -After trying a few cocktails, we opted for bottle service. **Mixers were charged separately (ex. Bottles of water, can of soda). -Lots of reviews commenting on wait time, but it's a new place so it wasn't an issue for me given the craftiness of the cocktails. read more

The food and drink were fine, but the poor service left a bad taste. The good: our cocktails (the Macho and Astra, if I recall correctly) were well crafted. We also shared the cochinita dumplings, which were fried and delicious. The ok: We both got the steak. I had changed my order from medium rare to medium, but the server understandably forgot to amend it, so I ended up with medium rare, which was probably not the best option for a fajita cut of meat. I couldn't finish it, but my dining companion quite liked it. It was accompanied by a little bit of asparagus and a bland blue cheese sauce. The bad: The menu had just changed from what was posted online, and I was disappointed by the limited offerings. There were no vegetable dishes (unless you count falafel) or salads available. The server said he would inquire with the chef about other options, but that was also forgotten. The server was nice, but clearly overwhelmed by multiple tables, including a party next to us that gradually grew more and more enormous, until they annexed our extra chairs (fair enough). My companion paid the bill before we finished, so perhaps the staff figured they didn't have to attend to us any longer. He had also told them multiple times, including on the reservation that it was my birthday. No acknowledgement whatsoever. I don't need a song and dance, but a little candle might be nice. The insulting: we were waiting and waiting for leftovers at our table when a hostess came by and interrogated us whether we had reserved the table. We had. She explained that the table had another reservation more than half an hour later, which was irrelevant. She also had an earpiece in and couldn't hear us that well, apparently, but it doesn't explain her initial appalling rudeness. read more

You know as well as I do, that's literally the cheapest cut of meat. Food portions are na ting to write home about. Grab a burger or sandwich before you get here! I haven't had hookah in a while and was in a jovial mood; take some extra underwear: $100 just for that!! Someone sakelow dispacio!! Inside got packed real quick, big party in attendance as well. If you're perhaps looking to "impress" a valley taco girl, this'll do it IF not save a ton of money and hit up Logan's!! Total bill that night for this place- $350. read more

Food and drink were good. Nothing mind-blowingly innovative, just well-executed. No complaints about this. Rooftop dining in the RGV is a gimmick that makes no sense. There is no skyline here. No interesting natural vistas. Just stroads and retail parks as far as the eye can see. "Rooftop" two stories high is hardly rooftop. I had booked a reservation for my partner's birthday on OpenTable (which was never acknowledged once by the staff during service, not even a candle with her dessert), and while we were waiting for our leftovers to be packed (which took ages), a hostess approached us to ask if we had a reservation for the table we were at. "Yes. It was booked for 8:00PM for my partner's birthday." (Had to throw that in another time, because the last two times I threw that in there, it seemed to have gone unacknowledged.) "Oh. Because we had this table booked for 10:00. What name did you book it under?" "Uh-huh. It's 9:15. It doesn't matter what name it was booked under at this point, because I've already paid the bill and we're just waiting for our to-go box. And we would just like to go at this point." We got our to-go and left. For the PRICE point, staff need to be more ON-point. There are many exciting new restaurants opening in the area that I would rather give a chance to, than to give this one a repeat visit. read more

The place is really nice, we made a reservation for dinner at around 8, so it was not packed, it was actually very chill, the server offered a house red wine that was really good, it is a tapas type of restaurant, we had the empanadas 8/10 (could have been a little more cooked), chorizo de mariscos 9/10, chicken tacos 8/10 and beef tacos 10/10. We also ordered the "Queso y chocolate" dessert 5/10, it's a chocolate tamal with ice cream but the ice cream tasted like ice, similar to when it melts and then gets frozen again so it had no flavor. read more

The hype is just that hype. The service is horrible. If you want to be seen and not drink or eat, then this place is for you. The place needs management that has worked in restaurants before to ensure that servers have a set rotation. Second, the Internet was down and they did not have a hard wired computer to continue processing drink and food orders. Solution: good old pen and paper. Listed as a new venue in town so decided to check it out - we were not disappointed! The ambiance is clean upscale chic without being pretentious - a wonderful step into an indoor outdoor rooftop realm! Good lighting, good music, and great cocktail offerings! Our servers were both wonderful and the food was definitely not regular bar fare! We had a pork belly and melon creation (a solid 'win') and tried the wagu short ribs. (The sliced ribs were tasty, the champagne slaw good, but the Japanese potato lacked salt and needed some lushness.) One of the owners (Joseph) came over to the table to check on us and seemed genuinely interested, so I shared my critique. He listened, made suggestions for our next visit - and I fully expect perfected dishes all around next time! The dessert (queso y chocolate) was another solid hit, and one I'd go back for! The bartender even pulled off a perfectly balanced classic vodka gimlet without the help of roses lime - which BTW is a pretty good trick! THE ENTIRE EXPERIENCE WAS ENJOYABLE AND MEMORABLE. My hope is to share what they did right, and what they can do better to help them give better service. From the moment you walk in the door as they kindly open it for you, you are quickly greeted by a kind young hostess who takes your name, and party number on a laptop. They then kindly escort you to the beautiful elevator, where as you arrive to the top, another well-dressed young lady respectfully guides you to a waiting area, standing room only, letting you know to wait here till your name is called. You are immediately impressed by the ritzy scenery, view, &professionalism, while in awe at the contemporary Architecture, finishes, & modern lighting, (My field of work is Architecture) . THAT IS WHERE THE GOOD SERVICE ENDS. They get a score of a perfect 10 up to that point. We waited there for about 50 minutes, with about 9 or 10 others around the same marble counter. In that time not one server approached us, asking if we would like to order drinks as we waited. MANAGER TAKE NOTE. Given the amount of people waiting there, and each perhaps wanting a drink while waiting, you lost a Very Easy potential $220 + Tips, before the diners are ever seated. At least two servers, or bar staff should have been assigned there to take drink orders, and close, or transfer those tabs as they waited. Making money, and good service is the name of the game to be successful. I only saw one drink served there, (beautiful as it was with wood smoke in a glass box). Because the amount of warm bodies there, it was uncomfortably warm. Very warm as if the AC system wasn't working which is strange being a brand new establishment. It should have been been comfortably cool, or even freezing if they chose to crank up the air. ( I work with MEP Engineers and they are required to do load air Balance tests after construction). As we approached near an hour, with no communication whatsoever, we decided to leave. MANAGER TAKE NOTE, had we been served a drink while waiting, we probably would have waited longer, and even enjoyed the long wait. Not having eaten there, I did observe the served dishes, and they looked extremely delicious, and well presented, so without having tasted it, I would say the diners looked very happy. One day I will attempt to visit again, overcome the wait, the non-drink offer service, and heat, and try some of their delicious looking meals. Having worked in the restaurant industry before, I blame this experience on bad management. They should have stepped in, talked to, and made sure waiting guests were accommodated. I am sure this place is as great as it looks, but they need simple work in some areas. To be fair, it was a Friday night, and at a very busy hour. I still want to give this place another shot, and enjoy the great looking food, ambiance, atmosphere, and beautiful upper "patio" view. read more
