I saw this place from across the road a few times and it caught my eye. I stopped in finally and checked it out. The place is very big inside and has a rustic feel to the decor. I had a great lunch here! Ordered the Beetlejuice drink for the mezcal and was not disappointed. The beer battered fish tacos were tasty, but so puffy they barely fit in the tortilla (not always a bad thing) but I'd try ordering them grilled instead next time. Food was phenomenal. I enjoyed having to be able to choose from several selections that were unique and not the same as many restaurants have in the area. Service was top of the line. Ambiance is wonderful, unique, beautiful, and there is covered outdoor seating. Dinner was with my cousin and we agreed we have to return with our husbands. The bar has many selections as well as beers, craft, and IPA's. We didn't have room for dessert, but they looked really good. Can't wait to return and try more entrees. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, and prompt attention to our needs. (Party of 16), all handled by one server. He was well versed on the menu, making recommendations, or answering our questions on flavor, and taste. If he wasn't sure about an ingredient, he made no guesses, and excused himself to quickly ask the chef. I ordered the Bodega Burger medium well, which was cooked to order, and absolutely delicious. The bacon, and toppings were perfect, as were the caramelized onions. The fries were light, fluffy, yet crispy, not wilted. I don't know if they used an air-fryer, or were deep fried, but no matter, they were cooked to perfection, all served upright in a stainless steel cup. I actually split shared my order, and it was still enough to satisfy two people. No worries about having to compete with obnoxiously loud thumping teen party dance music, or flashy laser lights while trying to converse. This place has an air of quiet, high class ambience, and subtle mood lighting, perfect for a couple on a date, or a business meeting, and yet appropriate for family gatherings as well. It was a great evening. We were even allowed to bring in our own birthday cake. My only question to the owner is if some items have MSG seasoning, as drowsiness hit me rather quickly afterwards, giving me a good night's sleep at home. Of course, it could have just been the natural beef protein reaction to my great meal. Side note: Antelope Burger is on the menu, so that will be my next conquest, as the server said it is not gamey in taste, but lean. read more

First time eating here but the food was great! From the fresh chicharrónes with green chile sauce, to the truffle braised short rib beef stroganoff, to the carrot cake with rosemary ice cream my friend and I shared. I'm also a Old Fashioned connoisseur and the Fall Fashioned I tried was one of the best I've had. Our server Josh was a polite and nice young man who also did a great job taking care of us. Don't come! Service from start to finish was Awful. Initially, walking into the premises and standing at the hostess podium to be seated my date and me were welcomed with a rude attitude from the hostess. When I had suggested to the hostess, that I wanted to be seated at a vacant table that had four chairs she had stated in a rude manner that due to my date and me only being a party of two she was not able to seat us there. Taking a glance at the half empty restaurant, we pointed out to the hostess that there were "Four" other tables with 4 chairs, and only 2 people sitting down on each of those other 4 tables. She just said, nope, you can't sit there. The hostess then proceeded and sat us at the very end of the restaurant, near the back wall. It was a place all the way to the back where lighting was very obscure and murky. 7 minutes had passed and not a single waiter that kept passing by offered to come to take our drink order. Due to being ignored and feeling isolated, my date and I decided to sit at the vacant table, which had no reservation sign, that was closer to the entrance and with more lighting. Continuing on, as soon as we sat, we could see the hostess giving us a very nasty facial expression from across the restaurant. The hostess then rushed over to inform us that the table had been reserved. None of this information was disclosed to my date and me in the beginning when we asked if we could sit at that table. She just said it was for a party of 4 people and not 2. Again, the info disclosed to us when we entered the restaurant was, we could not sit there because there was only 2 of us and not 4. We again said to her, "look, there are 4 other tables with 4 chairs, but only 2 people sitting", thus her reply was you can't sit here. Hostess was simply very hostile and bad-mannered overall. Furthermore, we asked to speak to the manager, Joshua, and when he came over, his response and attitude did not fall short of the hostess. He was smiling and smirking while we explain the situation about the ill-tempered hostess, but he made NO effort whatsoever to correct it and try to make it better. He just pretty much brushed us off like he didn't care at all. Finally, I took it upon myself to look up the owner of Bodega Tavern & Kitchen, Adam Cavazos, on Instagram to try and inform him of the situation and let him know how his employees were treating his customers. As a business owner myself, I felt he should be aware of how his establishment was being run. I saw that Adam Cavazos read my message on Instagram DM, but up to this day, he simply ignored it and has not replied to me at all. Zero effort on his behalf to accommodate his regular customers, or even offer an apology for what had transpired that evening. I can now see why his establishment is being run like that, by people who don't care. Adam is Cleary leading by example here. The disrespect, lack of professionalism, and "don't care attitude" in this restaurant is simply not worth anybody's time. Apparently, Bodega Tavern & Kitchen has no issues with regular customers walking off dissatisfied and unhappy. read more

My gf and I came here for the private 6 course Valentines dinner and it blew me away with how amazing the food was. Well, if Chef Adams still here, he isn't putting much effort into his food. The FIRST time I had a charcuterie platter cheeses and meats, and this was good. SECOND tasting of brunch options sadly wasn't up to par. We sat outside, but the flies were too much to take. No fans for Texas heat here. First mistake. Our waiter asked if we'd like to moved inside. We did, and the waiter and I carried the dishes and drinks to a table inside. The waters were still outside, but the waiter was more interested in my boyfriend's accent than in retrieving out waters! Mistake number two. For BODEGA being a higher end restaurant, it's service and meal offerings have go by the way side. The Chichen & Waffles were decent as the chicken was moist. The Pork Belly was not moist, even the brown gravy couldn't save it. The potatoes on this platting were not cooked through. My boyfriend was hungry and ate it all. We went for dessert, which was was described as banana pudding then banana bread; I don't believe the water was familiar with the dessert. It was three slices of banana bread, one slice was moist, one slice was dry and the last piece was burnt! Some syrup and butter with pecans that was meant to be whipped was semi hard. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. I really don't comprehend that a chef would send out a meal that smelled burn! I asked my boyfriend and he, too, could smell the burnt dessert. Mistake number three! One waitress came over to pick up the plates, and I think, upon seeing the burnt piece of banana bread asked, How was your meal overall?" My reply, "Overall it was o.k." Sadly she seemed pleased that it was o.k. not good or really good or great. The musician and her guitar player were a nice touch playing slow tunes. There was one waiter who came by towards the end thinking that no one was waiting on us. He was cheerful and it was nice seeing someone cared to make sure guests were happy. Note that I didn't put anyone's name. No one had name tags or greeted us with his or her name. Mistake number four. I believe BODEGA has gone the way most restaurants go here in the valley, start out great and downhill afterwards. Rio Grande Valley has an issue with training its servers. But expect the food to be better. Maybe things will get better... We sure hope so. read more

Bodega has been always been consistent on their food and service, however last night it was an absolute nightmare. The A/C was NOT working. When I spoke to an employee I was told there is nothing they could do. Yesterday at 7:00 pm it was 104F in my car. I think they should spring for fans in cases like these. The later it got, more people arrived and the hotter it was. Towards the end of the meal we just wanted to pay and get out. The outside dining area was COOLER than inside. The restrooms had NO A/C At all. We did have delicious Sangrias, great appetizers and our food was on point, but no dessert as we just wanted to leave. One star for delicious cocktails ... one star for our server. We walked in on a Friday close to 7:00 PM. I tried to make a reservation online prior but was not able to find a way to do so. We were told they were fully booked with about 6 empty tables around ... told we could sit outside which was fine. We had a pleasant waiter that participated in our silly banter and made good drinks recommendations. We ordered a few appetizers and a pizza. We ordered a side of French fries after seeing a nearby table with some and they were delicious. Calamari was surprisingly good. Beet fries were ok. Chimichurri wings were flavorless. The beef was in a long square, I'm presuming 3 oz's, maybe 4 & a pound of noodles, literally. Salmon was good; we just couldn't help but think of the prices, hang on to yer shorts babeee!!! Sakelow dispacio!! Had a couple drinks n dessert, bill was over $144, not including tip (I think we received the tip-not money either). At least we tried this place but don't expect us to go back anytime soon. There were moments where we were talking loudly just to communicate with one another.
