While I do not think a cemetery is a tourist attraction, there is a lot of history in places like these. This cemetery has the cause of death noted for most of the graves. Some graves are unmarked and some just have a name. You can also see who much immigration there was due to mining opportunities, people coming from Alaska, Finland and other countries is quite impressive. You can learn there was some big mine fire on February 1911, there is a section where cause of death was "mine fire" "fighting fire" and some other more unusual ones such as "was drug before having jewelry robbed" "Hart failure"

Old Tonopah Cemetery - 11.27.25 Old Tonopah Cemetery (1901-1911)

Scary... Haunted... Creepy... Unique? [Tonopah NV]…read more Before making our merry way to Las Vegas we stopped by the first Tonopah Cemetery and probably spent around 35 mins (I'm guessing) just reading some of the inscriptions on the plots, each with stories that bring Tonopah's past to life. You can pick up a Walking Tour map available at the cemetery entrance or download online. The cemetery is the final resting place for pioneers, miners, and residents. There is a lot of history as I read some of the stories on the weathered tombstones... many of the graves had noted the cause of death. Some plots were marked by weathered crosses, headstones, and the occasional wooden marker. Around 300 people are laid to rest here, many of them victims of the Tonopah Plague and the Belmont Mine Fire. Some were victims of wild and rowdy Wild West lifestyles and health and safety standards of the times. The ones who died from the mine fire were the saddest stories I've read. We parked at the Clown Motel parking lot which sits next to the museum/gift shop. Worth a stop. Review #3959

Tonopah Cemetery is a treasure trove for the history lover and the person that enjoys old…read morecemeteries. I visited because of the lore associated with ghosts, Tonopah and the mining industry. The Clown motel is right next door to the cemetery and that makes it more interesting. The people buried in the area are mostly those that died in mining accidents and townsfolk's that lived in Tonopah in the early 1900's. The place is well maintained and sunset is absolutely stunning. I recommend a visit to anyone who enjoys history and ghost stories.

Goldfield Cemetery - Don't eat library paste folks!

If you are ever passing through the town of Goldfield on the way to Tonopah via the 95, take some…read moretime out to check this place out. You will be amazed at how some people unfortunately died. The original cemetery was in the middle of town. As they built the once luxurious Goldfield Hotel right next to it, the residents of Goldfield did not want visitors stepping off the train only to walk across the cemetery to get to their hotel. So it was relocated to the outskirts of town about a mile away in 1908 as soon as the hotel construction was finished. As I mentioned earlier, if you take your time and skim over some of the grave site markings, you will be astonished as to how some of these unfortunate souls perished. People here have died from murder, accidental gun shots, stabbings, accidents stemming from mine disasters, and various diseases like diptheria, pneumonia, and tuberculosis. The most famous one has to be the "Unknown man who died from eating library paste". I know I couldnt believe it either that this old town had a library back in the day. Lol. But seriously folks, I dont think you will ever see any other grave stone with the cause of death from that. In closing, as with any other cemetery please treat it as sacred property and have full respect for those that are resting here. Yelp 2020 Review #36 832 overall

Formally the founder of a Paranormal Research team out in Vegas it's always been a fascination of mine. We were already in Goldfield to visit the Goldfield Hotel when we decided to stop off at the cemetery here. I didn't feel anything odd but it was a very humbling and interesting place to visit. Many people buried there were taken too soon by diphtheria and pneumonia. Some of the graves show what the person died from and some are unmarked without so much as a name. You can actually look up a few of their stories if you go to http://www.goldfieldhistoricalsociety.com/featured-storyGoldfieldCemeteryStories.html As always please be respectful when visiting cemeteries or graveyards.
