Rather than using water to wash your cloths, traditional dry cleaning uses an assortment of chemicals, many of which are bad for the environment, your clothes, and you! There are other methods, however, that use less harsh chemicals. Tony the Tailor is the only one downtown (that I know of) who offers this method. It costs a couple dollars more for a suit but is the same price for a shirt. I think it's worth it. I appreciate that Tony the Tailor offers this service. They also offer alterations (hence the name), however I've never had the opportunity to try this service here. The staff here are very friendly. They take the time to get to know you, refer to you by your name, and remember you. When was the last time you dropped a suit off and was asked honestly how your weekend was? Turn around time for dry cleaning is faster than many places (less than a week) and prices for traditional dry cleaning are competitive. Most importantly my cloths were perfectly clean. Every time I walk out of this place I feel like a million bucks. And I'm not even wearing my suit yet. read more

Amazing tailor. I got some secondhand suits from my dad who doesn't use them anymore. Unfortunately, they were 2 sizes too big for me. When I brought them in the staff were super friendly and accomadating. They gave several practical and stylistic recommendations for the tailoring and gave me a very reasonable price considering I was fully altering 3 suits. The finished product fit perfectly. Very good dry cleaning service, your clothes come back clean and nicely pressed and the price is not too high. As well, the tailoring service is very good. My friend has had many alterations done to his pants and suit jackets. I took in a Temperley London dress knitted with Merino wool. I had torn it at the waist because it was too small. The tailor chatted with me before I took it in and suggested ways for me to stetch it without damaging it. When it was stretched sufficently I took it in and the lady that did the extensive repair by hand did such a good job that nobody including me would ever know it was damaged. The price they charged me was VERY reasonable. The dress is called the Panorama dress and is featured in the book called English Myths and Legends by Alice Temperley. Brought in a corduroy sport jacket that needed a fair amount of alteration work. The woman who pinned up the jacket was not very polite and made me feel like I had inconvenienced her by bringing her my business. The place is out of my way but I went there because I had heard she was good. She did a good job on the alterations, but I wasn't too happy with how the staff behaved. I've found another great tailor who isn't so far out of my way and is much more courteous, so I probably won't ever go back to Tony the Tailor. read more

I live on 104 street so I wish I could return to this place, but I never will after the way we were treated today. I had items of clothing altered last year and they did an ok job. Today we phoned them to see if we could get my partner measured for a suit so that we could send the measurements home to Ireland for a wedding we are attending next month. They told us to come in right away and they could do that for us. We got there around 30 minutes later and told the old couple there that he was there to be measured. He got the filthiest look from the old woman, she looked disgusted! She just stared at him. We thought perhaps she didn't understand so repeated "I'm here to be measured up for a suit". And she said "yes I know" and continued to look at him as if he was a piece of sh*t. He said to her "If you don't want to measure me you don't have to, I can go somewhere else" she said "yes go somewhere else"??? Isn't there a recession!? Shouldn't you be welcoming customers instead of pushing them away!!? It's a pitty cause I need a dress altered and I'm now going to have to take public transport to a less convenient location. I've been coming to Tony the Tailor for a few years now, and I'm always delighted with their service. They do a great job on the dry cleaning & laundering (I've had shirts, jackets, pants, and wool sweaters cleaned there). I've also had a few alterations and repairs done, some of them fairly extensive; they do a fantastic job at a reasonable price. Finally, they're always friendly and chatty when I go in. I used to go to a place round the corner, but am very glad I switched to Tony the Tailor - definitely recommend them! read more

I recently went to Tony the Tailor to get laundry done for work. I was looking for simple laundry services. I confirmed with the owners three times that the total amount for eighteen pieces would be $7.50 all together. Which he confirmed, it was. It was actually $7.50 a piece (which was not communicated very well), and I ended up paying $118. I had asked for the estimated total at the beginning and $118 was never communicated. Although it is understandable it could be $7.50 a piece (as they are also a dry cleaner), I was looking for simple laundry services and would not have gone through with the order had I known the full estimated total in advance. read more
