Nice diner with loads of old movie star photos. You must try the fresh Fish & Chips on a Friday. Great value.

We found Brian Hackett hard at work in his jewelry studio, which I think has taken over the Crafts Gallery space. In any case, we were impressed by Brian's work but were not in the market for jewelry, so we moved along. In the other wing of the building, we were astounded to find the most AMAZING little bakery - to think we almost drove right by this place and didn't even know it existed. Fabiola, Brian's partner, has brought a little piece of France to this quiet corner of Ireland! Her delicate pastries and exquisite desserts reflect professional training and an artistic eye. They taste every bit as good as they look, too... I am still dreaming about the raspberry tart. Oh, la la. Fabiola herself is a welcoming host and will make you feel right at home as you enjoy her sun-bathed cafe, which overlooks the patio garden and fields beyond. A magical place, with cheerful touches of color and character in every inch of the decor...the perfect spot to sit and stay a while as you savor a mouth-watering pastry or scone and linger over a cup of dark, true coffee. Not to be missed if you are passing through Doolin. If the signs for the Doolin Crafts Gallery lead you astray, here is my best attempt at directions: take R479 northeast out of Doolin. About 1.0km out of town, you will see a large white church on a right-hand corner. Take a right on the lane just before it (L1036, I believe). The cafe and jewelry gallery will just a few hundred meters up on your right.

Was she right!! Even though the listing here on yelp says breakfast and lunch, this is also a dinner restaurant. Shane took our reservation for 6 o'clock after checking the books and seeing that they had about 20 names down already. We shared an appetizer-sized portion of the calamari, and most of us agreed that we wished we had ordered it for our entrée because it was outstanding. The waiter said the secret is that it is never frozen, and I can only say that I've never tasted calamari that tender and flavorful, so perhaps he's right. Don't get me wrong: each of our entrées was delicious, but that calamari!... Their menu list their local suppliers, which must another secret to outstanding food. We also shared two desserts among the six of us: an Irish cream cheese cake and a chocolate tart. Both came on plates adorned with two fruit gastrics and a tiny dish of delicious vanilla ice cream; the desserts themselves were excellent.
