The Ivy Cottage is a lovely setting for lunch or dinner. It has indoor and outside seating available. The menu is streamlined, but everything I've had so far has been fresh and delicious. It's popular and oftentimes there is a line to get a table. The staff does their best to seat guests as soon as possible. Note the closing time of 8pm is firm, so be sure to arrive before that. Staff is kind but due to the busyness of the restaurant, service can be scattered or slow, so remember, you're on vacation. Wine and beer available. Parking can be difficult in the area. Delicious place to eat close to the ferry that goes to the Cliffs of Moher. Chowder and grab claws were very rich and delicious. Goat cheese and beet salad was one of the finest one of us had ever had -- the cheese was insanely good. Ham sandwich was more of a pile of sliced ham with bread on this side, assume this is a sandwich in Ireland. Very good, but don't expect a panini-type experience. If I could give this restaurant 100 stars I would. Absolutely amazing in every way!! My family of 10 and a baby were here in Doolin on a tour and our tour guide was incredible enough to make us reservations here for dinner. Our hotel was right across the street. This restaurant is pretty much a cottage with wonderfully sweet people serving amazingly gorgeous food! 3 weeks later and I still cannot stop thinking about their food. The service given to us was unforgettable. I ordered a garden salad and their crab claws. OMG. Pan fried crab claws with garlic and chili butter and a samphire cream sauce. OMG and their sourdough bread is amazing with this. Everyone else in my party loved their food. We all wanted dessert so we decided on a tasting platter and this was the highlight of the dinner. The tiny town of Doolin where most people gather at O'Conner's Pub, but we had multiple recommendations to try Ivy Cottage for their seafood. We ordered an Atlantic Chowder with salmon, cod and smoked haddock in a creamy vegetable broth. It was outstanding! We each ordered Fish & Chips which was fried cod with triple fried chips. We just had to compare our outstanding fish with lousy chips in London to these from the west coast of Ireland near the Cliffs of Moher. Today's cod was excellent and the chips were perfect. The chowder was excellent and probably the best I e ever had. The pickles and dill on top were a great and unique addition. read more

By far this was one of my favorite meals when visiting Ireland! This a family owned small restaurant that has incredible food. It's a very quaint place and definitely has the cottage vibes. I think their menu changes, but we got the seafood taglietella (the flavor was astounding, and the seafood super fresh), the chowder (hands down the best chowder we had the whole trip, and we had chowder everyday). The food had so much flavor without overdoing it, well balanced, and was really comforting. Overall would definitely eat here if you're in the area! read more

Stopped in after reading recent reviews. They open at 5:00 p.m. and we were there when they opened. I had a halibut dish and my wife had the seafood chowder. Both were absolutely amazing and the presentation was beautiful. Seriously one of the best meals I have had in a while. The place is very friendly and the service is outstanding. It sits back off just off the road as you head to Doolin harbor. We enjoyed it so much for dinner that we stopped by for lunch the next day. For our dinner we sat inside and they had a nice little wood stove stokes to cool the slight chill the night brought. Our lunch the next day was outside under the gazebo because it was a gorgeous sunny day. The food was amazing. I got the crab starter, which was crab claws in an insanely great sauce with chili peppers added for color and flavor (yes, I did ask for a spoon so I didn't miss any of the sauce. For my entree I ordered the Seafood Tagliatelle. The pasta was well made and cooked perfectly. The mixture of mussels, clams and prawns along with the tomatoes and onions, in addition to another fantastic sauce made for a great dish. My wife got the fish and chips. The fish was perfectly cooked, nice and crisp, and the chips were great (in full disclosure they were used to get the remaining sauce from my dish). Our lunch the next day were the Double Bacon Burgers. The burger were super juicy and appeared to have been cooked with stone ground mustard in them (going to have to try that at home). The bus was great as was the cheese and bacon. This was a great burger! Can't say enough about this place! Don't miss out if in Doolin. read more

I took a chance, even though there weren't that many reviews. The whole group was extremely satisfied with the meal here. I would have to say the best I've had since we've been in Ireland. There was a little hesitation at first because they didn't have a full bar. The do have beers and wine though. The food was superb. The crab legs appetizer has precut crab legs in a cream sauce served with bread. The taste of the sauce was delicious. Some ordered the French onion soup, which is different without melted cheese on top, but the flavor was very good. A few of us had the goat cheese salad and it was a hit. The fish and chips were the best I have ever had here. The fries were fried three times and crispy. The ratio of breading to fish was perfect. The fish was also seasoned where a lot of restaurants failed to season the fish. The seafood tagliatelle was ok, but not as flavorful as the other dishes we had. The chicken breast with chorizo was also a hit. The dessert was a trio and enough for 2-3 people. The service was good as well. Folks we met at McGann's pub while listening to some trad music highly recommended we try the Ivy Cottage. It did not disappoint. Walking into this small quaint space we could tell right away we were in for a charming evening. The service and ambiance was only surpassed by the quality of the food. The goat cheese is fresh, caramelized on top and the beets, pear and semi sweet dressing paired together crazy well. I originally thought so much cheese (I love cheese all around, but my wife-not so much) but the ratios to portion size was balanced and the walnuts gave a good texture to it all. My wife had the seafood saffron pasta, everything was light, seasoned well and tasted great. I have the steak-it was simple, but cooked to perfection. All the veggie components added extra depth to each bite (i especially loved the charred lemon). The ambiance was quaint and welcoming. The staff were personable and approachable. Overall, the best place we've eaten in the first week here in this beautiful country. There is nothing better in dining than leaving a restaurant feeling full and satisfied. We loved the food. Like many other tourists, the Cliffs of Moher brought us here. We came for lunch around 2:30pm on a Saturday, and it was bustling. Looking back, it was one of the best lunches we had in Dublin, all in a very unassuming place. We sat outside by the river and ordered the seafood bowl, seafood chowder, and classic fish and chips. The seafood bowl was fantastic, full of fresh seafood, the highlight of which were crab claws (!!!). The chowder was just what we needed to warm up from the cold, rainy weather. The fish and chips were an eye opener, such tender cod that it would flake off while dipping in the very tasty tartar sauce that makes tartar sauce in the US look like white slodge. Even though it was fried, it tasted fairly light. Definitely stop here for some great grub and friendly service if you're in Doolin. read more

After a long day out at Inis Mor and the Cliffs of Moher, I was ready for a good restaurant. This one had a great patio on a perfect night, so we decided to eat. I pretty much exclusively have been eating Fish and Chips on this trip, so I went with that yet again. My wife did the lamb. The atmosphere her is great, if you have good weather out on the porch you should definitely sit there. The staff was friendly. The playlist was an unexpectedly amazing mix of late 90's early 2000's jams. I actually made us stay here until a bad song came on and it took like 6 songs straight. You can't beat tubthumping, the end of the world as we know it, all star, all in a row. The mashed peas were good. I couldn't quite place what they tasted like, but it was peas and something else. Best I had in Ireland. The fish and chips was good, but didn't go above and beyond. Definitely in the upper half of the meals I had, but not in the top 3. My wife really enjoyed the lamb. I had a hot chocolate as well with the meal and it was really good. The Irish cream is amazing. I'll come back here next time we are in town, but will probably try something other than fish and chips. read more

The Seafood chowder was packed with more fish than potatoes and the cream sauce was spot on. The kabash had great flavor and my son particularly enjoyed the potatoes which were buttery. We stumbled upon this place on our drive to Cliffs of Moher on Tuesday. Sadly the rainy day did not allow us to enjoy their beautiful patio. Staff were quick & friendly. I had the beef stew & my fiancé had the fish & chips. THE BEST fish & chips we had in Ireland. The beef stew had delicious tender beef with carrots & mashed potatoes.
