Sometimes you find yourself having one of the more hilarious, uninhibited dance nights of your adult career at an unexpected locale. All of a sudden you realize you're with upwards of fifteen friends, in a groove circle while the rest of the bar stands off side, slack jawed and unimpressed. Post music show when some friends were in town, as a tasty larf we headed to this ridiculous Halifax "club." From dozens of TVs playing dumb country tunes, to silly Canadiana decor, the Toothy Moose provides nothing alluring in the way of atmosphere or clientele. Yet somehow, we threw all of our extraneous junk down, formed a circle, and spun and leapt with reckless abandon. The moral of this fair anecdote is that you can have fun anywhere, my friends. Although none of the other patrons seemed happy with our raucousness (maybe we had too many beards in the group), we still managed to act foolish and have fun. Big downer is that the music is seriously awful, with far too many crappy contemporary country jams glowing from the plethora of screens. I shall probably never return to this unfortunate spot, but fair Moose, until memory loss sets in, you shall guard a tiny spot in my heart. Thank you 1 and all. The warmth and welcome was outstanding. I wish there was karaoke, but the baseball and hockey was exciting enough. The beer was perfect and my cousin/girlfriend and I loved the hamburgers. We had our own Maritime-styled hamburger and fries eating contest- she won- 8 platters for her, only 7 for me. I am proud of her. She should have taken the salad, because she rolled off the motorcycle after we drove home, and rocked herself to sleep trying to get back up in the driveway (too many pitchers of delicious draft). Thank you, but please recommend diet draft and garden salad (no dressing) to her next time. She gets emotional when I tell her to cut back the calories. read more

The bar lovingly referred to as the "Redneck Dome" is probably the worst in a recent string of bad new bars in the city. When the highlight of my experience is watching a guitar go through one of the establishment's walls and hoping for long term structural damage (after we've all safely been evacuated) then it's safe to say I'm not planning on returning. There is nothing about this bar I enjoy, on any level. Even the giant moose bust that hangs over the entrance rubs me the wrong way. It's the worst kind of kitsch east coast meets kitsch country bar. The dance floor is big, but the music is generic, how many times can you listen to Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy? The answer, if you're in The Toothy Moose, is at least one more time. I know there is a market for this place - some of my friends even really enjoy it, but not me, not now, not ever... ...Unless, of course, there's another guitar going through the wall. read more

A year and a bit ago I would have given this place a 5 for sure. It had good music and it was always packed ! We even befriended one of the bartenders and he let us put our coats behind the bar! But ever since it was shut down for having a count of around 467 patrons in a space licensed to allow 198 (imagine having almost 500 severely drunk people screaming I got Friends in Low Places) AND serving alcohol to minors (I would know), it's NEVER been the same. Last time I went it was next to empty and it was 2 in the morning. Take this part with a grain of salt considering how intoxicated I was, but that didn't stop me from noticing how disgusting and wet everything seemed to be. Save yourself the cover and the STD's you'll probably get from the bathrooms and don't waste your time at Toothy. read more

I'll try to keep most of my subjective distaste for country bars and generally places that seem as though they could be power washed at the end of a night aside, for the purposes of this review. 'Toothy Moose' will be your type of place if you like: dancing to country music, bartenders in cowboy hats and throngs of drunk 19 year olds. To be fair, my experience was of the DJ side of this establishment which just wasn't really my scene. I've been told that live bands come in on the weekends from 1am-3am though and apparently there's a marked improvement when they start up. On Tuesday nights, Toothy Moose also offers bottles of Canadian and Coors light for $2.50. read more

I'm not sure whether it was the mood I was in, the dance music, or the ridiculous buck-toothed moose head over the entrance, but my first experience at the Toothy Moose was a blast. The place is absolutely massive and wide open, so there's not much pushing and shoving and plenty of room to dance. The bar is supposed to have a country feel, but it doesn't always. It's a great place to come and shake it all out, if you can get past the young men trying to cop a feel. read more

I've gone to the moose aka toothy a couple of times. I'm not much of a fan, it's trying to do country but also dance club things, the two seem incompatible to me. I'd recommend going elsewhere but if you're really into country music then I suppose that might allow sufficient justification for you to attend. read more

The Toothy Moose has a very large space, big dance floor with stage. They do have live bands as well as a DJ most nights; I find there is always music on that I like or can at least dance to! There are two bars inside, the crowd isn't usually that bad, but the bartenders like to chat... to each other, which is annoying. The staff here are the biggest problem is; they're not too friendly. Also - the crowd at the Toothy Moose is generally on the younger side like 19-21. I like it, and will go, but it would never be my first choice. The Toothy Moose is an extremely fine establishment, complete with arrogant bartenders and meathead bouncers. I was there with a university pub-crawl this winter, and decided to leave just about as soon as I arrived with another friend who wasn't a big fan. When we made it to the Alehouse and realized we would have to pay cover and wait in line as we were there earlier than our scheduled pub-crawl arrival, we decided to head back to the Toothy Moose. I was extremely impressed with the bouncer's intelligence when he refused to let us back in, despite there being no line, both of us having legitimate ID, and HAVING STAMPS ON OUR HANDS FROM BEING THERE 10 MINUTES AGO. When I inquired as to why we couldn't be let back in, he politely informed me that i was "going to get punched in my god-damned mouth if i didn't get the f*** out of here". I'd rather have my wallet stolen and get peed on at the Dome than go back to the Toothy Moose. read more

I was taking to a friend while a drunk individual kicked my drink out of my hand, then a bouncer kicked my friend out the bar (who was my driver for the night out of the bar) who they mistook for someone else, and when we tried to talk to the manager they told us they have better things to do! read more

What a terrible bar. Spend $10 to get in, and wait 30+ mins to just do the coat check. During this period multiple douche-bags decide that they are too privileged to wait in this line. After more then 15 years of going to bars I feel I'm more then qualified to make a remark on this bar. Talking to the the bar staff and the bouncers I've learned many thing in my time at this bar. 1. This bar is good.....really good, it just lacks advertisement, and draw.....It needs to have the drink specials and the pull to bring the partiers of Halifax in . 2. the live bands.....WICKED....but...put a band on that will be there longer then 10 min...not in their rider??? go play some place else....we need a band that can rock out for most of the night....and when said band isn't on stage, play music that keeps and draws ppl to the dance floor....which by the way is huge and awesome. 3. I saw there a full bar/pizza stand that was completely dead. If you're going to have the pizza joint open, make it full all the time. I'd go there rather then pizza corner. 4. Bouncers.....great guys/girls....but....they can't focus on the jocks and "cool" ppl.....focus on ppl who are there to enjoy themsleves and SPEND MONEY!!!!!!.5. Coat check...I know you don't wanna make your bar like the last, but put the coat check where it was before, not all the way across the bar. I don't wanna carry my coat over there. Even though my friend loves country and wanted to go to this bar sooo bad, it was the worst experience i've ever had. I wouldn't even give it one star. First They denied my friend because she didn't have a second piece, all she had was her debit and her license. Then when I tried to get my ID back they said it was a fake and they needed to look at it further. They got out this rickety book that apparently had every license and how to tell that its real. Well I got my license a little over a month ago and I just turned 19 (and wearing a birthday girl button) and it didn't match the description in the book (the book was apparently up to date) So while i'm telling one bouncer my address, birthday, height, weight, and date I got the license issued, two others were discussing about the authenticity of it. I asked if they wanted to see other pieces, all I really wanted to do was to go to get food then go home as to my birthday was basically ruined with this little fiasco. After I repeated over and over again that I had second pieces and that I found my passport in my purse from a recent NSLC run that I forgot about, they finally accepted seeing my passport. After looking over the passport and establishing that I am actually 19 and who I say I am with my passport, they questioned why I had a Canadian passport and a states license and I gave them my life story about how I was born in Montreal and moved to the states when I was 5 and now I study at Dal. They finally gave me back my belongings and that was the last time I will ever step near Toothy Moose again. Don't recommend it. i was at the toothy moose last night for halloween and i went outside for a ciggarette at aproximately 3 am. i left my jacket inside and had previously entered and was not required to be stamped. when i returned inside i was confronted by a door lady who said i owed 10$. i informed her i had already been inside and needed my jacket so i could leave. she said 10$. was not understanding and was very rude. she called the bouncer over and he was incredibly aggressive with me so i acted agressively with him. before i knew it 3 bouncers were roughing me up and ripped my custom rare 1/1 leather jacket. i was politely requesting to get my jacket and she was very unprofessional. whoever this door lady is she should be repremanded immediately. no problems with anybody but her. i dont even blame the bouncers they gave her the benefit of the doubt. she however caused a completely unecessary situation and ruined my night and my jacket. hats off to the other staff though read more
