I stopped in Top Shelf Aquatics for the first time to see what they have to offer. I was looking for a specific solution to my aquarium, and I wasn't sure if they would have anything due to them specializing in saltwater aquariums. Nevertheless, my curiosity prompted me to stop in. I was definitely impressed with the quantity and variety of aquarium tools and aquatic life that they carry. The displays were beautiful. After I had a chance to look around, one of the staff asked me if they could assist me or answer questions. They were able to answer all of my questions, but they didn't have a solution for me and this was no surprise for me. If I were a saltwater enthusiast, I think that I would consider shopping here based upon the location, the variety of supply and the knowledge and friendliness of the staff. For now it is a 4 star because I don't have the experience of purchasing and/or assessing quality of animals or service. read more

Wow! I could not be any happier about my purchase from these guys. Im back into reefkeeping now, and there is no way I could have chosen a better initial place to order from. I have been out of the "Reef Tank game" for almost five years. I've had my tank the entire time, I just quit buying anything that wasn't necessary to keep it running. I didn't even change the water for the last 3.5 years. I had a catastrophic loss five years ago that crushed my will to rebuild. My heater controller malfunctioned and stuck on. My dumbass had two 500w titanium tubes in it during the summer, and heated the tank water to 93 degrees before someone saw the cloud of death in the tank. After three consecutive, daily,100 gallon water changes I tried to save what I could but I lost upward of $15k worth of animals. One of my friends owned the LFS so I had some doozies. I always got first look and the tank had irreplaceable corals in it. Only six corals and five fish made it. Sad day man. I didn't even look at it for a long time.... My kids would clean the glass for me every now and then. I couldn't bring myself to break it down or rebuild it. Present day: Only one fish left in the tank so bio load was minimal. I finally did a water change and to everyone's amazement the tank parameters were still dead on. I guess I've gotten good at eyeballing. The six corals that made it are the size of basketballs now. I did a big chop and made a bunch of frags and sold them off locally. Time to buy some new corals and fish!! I have never gotten a shipment of corals that were this well packaged. The water was 77.7 degrees on arrival and the salinity was 1.026. Spot on exactly as my tank. The way they packed it was brilliant. Double bagged individually and in the bags were plastic cups supporting the frag plugs to prevent damage. Everything arrived in excellent condition. I got six corals, and a medium clean up crew of snails and crabs. All alive and zero coral damage to even the most delicate ones. The corals are nothing short of amazing! The colors are better than the pics online. Polyps were extended in minutes after I added them. These guys brought my passion back with this shipment. WYSIWYG is the way to go with these folks man, you will not be disappointed. Buy a lot, you will have no regrets. My next purchase will be a couple "frag packs" to help get restocked. I'll try and get some pics of the new corals in the tank. Blue light makes it hard to get decent pics. read more

Very disappointed. I bought coral from this company on a Tuesday and it didn't arrive until late Friday. I paid for next day shipping and it took 3 days. At this point they should have just put it in the mail and charge me the going rate for that which is like $7 and now my coral are dead. Over promising and under delivering is a huge turn off. If you wanna buy electronics, they have it all! if you want your coral to survive....i would look somewhere else. read more

As a long time aquarist and having lived in San Diego for many years I was quite spoiled by the selection of livestock, both corals and fish. Top Shelf Aquatics (TSA) and Worldwide Corals (WWC), both here in Central FL are two of the best known spots for high end corals Nationwide. Are they pricey, sure...but the reality of the hobby is you can have a beautiful system on a moderate budget should you choose. I've also seen very healthy sized frags for a solid deal. If you ever get a chance to see their farms you will be in awe. They have always been well staffed every time I've been in and always asked if I need any help. They also have a nice selection of food and dry goods on hand. read more

This is a saltwater aquarium store only, no freshwater anything. Which is amazing because they focus on having great livestock, corals and dry goods for reef keeping. We come here a couple times a month and get RODI for our nano reef tank. Their staff is awesome starting with the owner Alex, Austin is super patient and Greg really knows his APEX systems and is a guru in programming. Their prices are always reasonable and the coral frags are always a healthy slice and not the single polyp stuff you typically see at high end coral shops. I always feel like I got a great deal with the corals I bring home. And don't forget to check out their invert tanks in the back, found some really cool stuff lurking in there if you keep a sharp eye on them. read more

I would say the name is fitting "Top Shelf" as this is one of the few stores to cater to the higher end needs of experienced hobbyists. With a plethora of high end pieces some right out of the main display. With huge colonies you can really see the expertise handling of such corals. I was told their water buckets were 35 dollar "deposit". A deposit in my mind, to me, means when you turn them in you get your money back. When the time came, the story changed. Now its only for store credit, when i pressed the matter they offered me half my money back. I WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT 35 DOLLAR BUCKETS. They really need to be more clear and up front about what a deposit to this establishment means. read more

Great place for many reasons. The guys that work here take the time to talk to a beginner like me and do not recommend stuff just to make money off of the ignorant. Also I have been to every other salt water aquarium store within 10 miles and these guys have the best prices on almost everything. I'm always looking for something new to add to our saltwater tank. I actually found this store on Craigslist. Decided to take the drive and check them out. Wow it's like a nightclub in there. The music is pumping and the lighting is glowing. These kids really took the time and put some money into building out this store. The tanks they have set up are beautiful! The guys are knowledgeable and super friendly. Their prices for salt and fresh water (yes I buy water) are actually cheaper than other places I've purchased from. They farm most of their own coral to keep the prices low. They have a decent coral selection. If you check them out on Craigslist they are always having sales on the weekends. The fish selection is amazing, I've never seen so many unusual fish in one store. We bought a few corals and a sea urchin, they were very healthy and we didn't have any problems with them in our tank. This is a place worth checking out even if you're just starting out. read more

There is nothing like this in NY. they have a great selection if you are a medium to high end sps addict. By far my favorite place. My wife and I came in to upgrade our old reef tank and the staff fully explained every possible aspect of the Redsea 425xl we were getting. My wife came into the store thinking the tank was just "pretty" and came out full of knowledge and already planning her very own tank. The staff took thier time answering our massive amount of questions and ensuring we fully understood them. The tanks have a great spead of the low price common corals all the way up to the super rare expensive corals(all of which were beautiful). I've gotten most of my fish and inverts from here and have not once had a problem with any pests. There are always lots of helpful staff available to answer your questions. Their tanks are clean and animals well tended to. Above all, their home aquarium service is top notch. We briefly used two other local aquarium services and they gave us bad advice, I learned once I visited other aquarium stores. Kyle is young but he is a total expert. He always has the answer for whatever problem I have and has never led us astray. He's added things to our aquarium which have reduced the need for maintenance, which we really appreciate. He ordered a 220 RR tank and a Monterey stand for me...even though it took a while to get the one wit the least damage due to manufacture shipment. But overall...I'm glad that I drove 2 hours to Top Shelf Aquatics for the business with Alex. About the staffing...they are busy but they will try their best to greet and help everyone out as much as they could, so great for their business having staffs like that. I'm sorry that I didn't remember your name, but the one with glasses and was wearing khaki short with Sperry shoes helped me and greeted me with warm welcome and helped me out when I was there. (I'm the guy that ordered the 220 marineland tank and Monterey stand, and have to travel back and forth like 3x round trips, 2 hrs each way). They do have a lot of corals and fishes in stock, and a lot of high end equipments like AI and ECOTECH in store. Can't wait until my tank is fully cycled and ready...I will come back for the Moorish Idols as they have it in stock often. I bought some corals from them, and it was at a good prices, not too expensive. Only disappointment was I bought a reverse dragon Favia and it have aptasia, but it only a minor thing that I'm ok wit it. It's only a little fixer to get rid of aptasia. Scraped as much as u could off the Rock and put a drop or two of superglue over it then let the glue dried and put it back in the tank. All good Very happy and will look forward seeing them again. I've been in the Hobby for eight plus years and as far as reef shops go... this is as good as it gets. I took a break in the hobby two years ago because I was spending way too much money on it. I was using what's now called Living Reef because the fish seemed to be healthier and corals were more vibrant but I definitely paid for it. I also used WWC and a few other from time-to-time. Their prices were less than Living Reefs (I understand their overhead is high) but still expensive. I'm so thankful Top Shelf moved in. I now buy all of my fish, coral and dry goods here. Their prices on dry goods even rival that of ebay. For example; I needed 12 7" filter socks for my sump (6 in at a time) and they're seven bucks for quality ones at top shelf. The cheapo ones on eBay are more than that after shipping. The fish and coral I buy here are also top notch. Keven hand picks most things from wholesalers here in Florida and even has a coral cultivation center in the back. I like being able to buy frags that are not only easier on the reefs but have had plenty of time to acclimate to tank life. I find these corals typically handle the shock of being in a tank and under LED lights better. I actually came across this place by accident when it opened. I had a clown fish on his last leg dying from Brooklynella. He was wild caught and succumbed to the disease from the shock of being added to my tank. When I was on my way home from another LFS where they told me there was nothing they could do (didn't even refund my money and I had to quarantine all my other fish) Keven was able to identify the disease and treat my fish (who was doing better within hours) He also sold me treatments for my other fish who were breathing heavy and looked close to death. Everyone ended up surviving. I assumed Keven sold me the treatments at a premium since I was buying them in the store and needed them right at that time. When I got home I googled the treatment and found the prices were in line with the online prices. When I was new to the Hobby several years ago I had an Ich breakout and have not forgotten how WWC sold me a ton of treatments at a premium and even stuff I didn't need. That has always left a bad taste in my mouth. THE BOTTOM LINE This place has excellent prices, corals, fish and a knowledgeable staff. I honestly would not have gotten back into the hobby to this extent if I didn't have this resource. I highly recommend this place! read more
