I don't normally write reviews for medical services (I have a review "credo" that excludes…read moremedicine, social services, and food trucks), but in these uncertain times, I had to make an exception. I ended up on the Cape semi-permanently at the beginning of the pandemic and had to unexpectedly transfer my middle-age prescription regime to this pharmacy, complete with intricate medical insurance that was so inconsistent, it would enrage even a Franciscan monk. Some months my insurance approves my meds, other months they decide they need a pre-approval. Its almost like they flip a coin. But I digress. Much to my surprise, instead of shrugging and handing the prescription back to me unfilled (I'm looking at you, CVS), the pharmacy team at Outer Cape Health Services went out of their way to fill my prescriptions. And they were friendly about it. I was completely confused when they smiled and said things like "No problem!" and "See you next month". For comparison, I've been going to one CVS for fifteen years and every month they look at me as if it's my first time in the store. I am so used to being abused by grouchy, indifferent pharmacists and their underpaid techs that I felt almost disoriented at OCHS! When this pandemic is over and I have to return to my home town, I will look back fondly on this brief but magical time when I didn't have to deal with a chain pharmacy. If you are lucky enough to live near this place, then I recommend that you go see what it's like when a staff actually cares about their jobs and their customers. It's refreshing. P.S. I've never baked *cookies* for a business until this place, if that helps give you an idea of how good they are.

My experience at this clinic was deeply upsetting and, based on how I was treated, I believe I was…read morediscriminated against as a Black parent. My 2-month-old son had an appointment, yet when we arrived, the front desk clerk, Bailey, repeatedly came up with different reasons why he could not be seen. This made no sense because his medical records had already been transferred from his previous pediatrician to this office. Before relocating to Cape Cod, I specifically spoke with representatives from Outer Cape Health, who assured me that establishing care here would not be a problem. When I asked for the next available appointment so my son could receive his routine well-child care and vaccines, Bailey told me there were no appointments available and suggested that I take him to an urgent care center instead. My son did not have an urgent medical issue--he simply needed his scheduled well-child visit and vaccinations. Despite my explaining this, she continued to refuse to schedule him. Throughout the interaction, I felt she spoke down to me and treated me as though I was inferior. After leaving the clinic, I called the main office and spoke with another representative, who informed me that there were actually several appointments available the very next business day and the day after. I reported how I had been treated and was told my complaint would be forwarded to the office. About two hours later, instead of addressing my concerns, I received a message stating that my appointment had been canceled and that my son would no longer be seen at that office. What makes this even more confusing is that my son had already been seen there for his 6-week well-child visit, and his 8-week well-child appointment had already been scheduled over the summer. There was no legitimate reason to deny him care. Refusing care to an infant who needs routine medical care and vaccinations, providing misleading information about appointment availability, and then canceling his care after I reported my concerns is unacceptable. No parent should have to experience this while trying to ensure their child receives appropriate medical care. I hope this clinic thoroughly investigates how patients are treated so that no other family has to go through what we experienced.
