With great surprise and sadness I write this review. Topolo was the pinnacle of my dining experience journey when visiting Mazatlan. Magical. Delicious. Memorable. The gold standard of what I loved about restaurants when we visit. Last night I was shocked and disappointed. It's changed...and not for the better. Still the best is the head waiter. Was grateful for him. Kind, inviting, knowledgeable, professional. He is the one waiter in my world travels who I love the most. Now the bad news. I noticed the seating had changed and become uncomfortable, ugly, gross. I remember being amazed by the antique tables and large comfortable locations in the garden. They are all metal now. My wife needed a seat changed out because the first seat was hurting her. The salsa was still delicious. The beer cold. We all enjoyed our drinks. The salad I ordered came, with dust or dirt in it. I was the only one who ordered a salad. The meal came in a reasonable time. My wife had fish. It was good. My aunt had Carne Asada, she said it was good. We ordered 3 beef Filets anticipating succulent delight. We 3 gentleman couldn't have been more saddened by the meal. Overcooked to zero pink after ordering medium rare. We could have sent it back but,..the filet was so tuff and stringy my father in law choked on his, I couldn't cut mine, and my other uncle just stared at it in disbelief. There was no recovering from this 440 peso disaster. Topolo. Take this off your menu or buy beef that hasn't worked a field the past 10 years. I have zero desire to return as my time in Mazatlan is short and I focus on telling others about and spending money at restaurants I truly want to return to, Your wait staff was good to us. But I will not be paying 900 pesos to be driven to you again. I will remember you as you were, not what I experienced last night. read more

We stayed in Mazatlan for a week and ate here on the last night. Best meal we had! Salsa made right at your table? Yes please. Atmosphere was perfect for a romantic meal. We had two different combo plates. Very flavorful and fresh. Service was attentive and friendly. We went around 8pm and had no wait and almost had the place to ourselves. Def recommend. read more

Full disclosure: Mexican food aficionado here. The dish I had here for apx USD $20 would have been $50+ in Southern California, if it existed there. I had a combo of shrimp in tequila sauce and a chile relleno. The flavors were exquisite all around, and the shrimp as fresh as it gets. As was the fresh salsa, made table-side. My husband enjoyed a gorgeous tortilla soup and their happy hour 2x1 margaritas. The service was outstanding--they speak good English--and the ambiance of the outdoor shaded courtyard setting was romantic and lovely, even on a day when temps were in the 80s. Most of the food was delicious and well presented; however, 2 of us had the fish fillet & it was overcooked. They also ran out of the braised pork shank although it was promoted by the server. Really good mole on the chicken. They told us that their credit card machine wasn't working, so cash-only before we sat down and we thought we'd easily cover it, but we were $5 MXN short of pesos on a $2500 MXN bill, and she wouldn't let it go. What a beautiful place! The restaurant is open air. Gorgeously decorated with clay pots and other deco. The plants they have are thriving, green so lushes. The food is on priced in the higher end, the portions are big and quite filling. Food and drinks are delicious!! I totally recommend. Get there early for your reservations because the parking is hard to find around the area. read more

It is a romantic open air restaurant that features a wide array of food options including traditional Mexican favorites , seafood, and food with a fusion flair. The waitstaff has been with the restaurant for many years and are skilled and knowledgeable. The environment is tranquil and romantic . They typically host live music. Great spot away from the 'blue line' craziness. Perfect for late lunch (they don't open until 2 or 3) especially for the people coming in for the day on a cruise. 10 min walk from the ships. They make the salsa table side just how you want it (spicy etc) - and the fish was wonderful. read more

We really enjoyed our dinner at Topolo. We had a small group of adults and kids, and it was a great time. The ambiance is great. It is an open courtyard, with nice landscaping. It was a pretty safe eating space during COVID, and there was good mask adherance. The food was excellent. They start with a fresh salsa made tableside, and one of our kids was invited to help prepare it, which was a lot of fun. Later we ordered a guacamole, which is similarly prepared tableside. Nothing is better than fresh salsa and guac, made minutes before. The desserts were also a big hit. The strawberries and oranges are prepared tableside, with rum on fire. It is quite a show, and makes something very tasty. read more

The gardens and bright Mexican colours gave this restaurant real ambiance! Roasted tomato salsa prepared right in front of you and Spanish coffee flaming in front of you as well. Topolo salad was very good and my husbands Tuna Steak was delicious. Carlos our waiter was a real card and the rest of the staff were very attentive as well. The food was fantastic. The margaritas are amazing with fresh, local fruit that the owner selects daily. We had both the passion fruit and watermelon. You'll need a reservation, but the beautiful ambiance and kind staff won't disappoint. The pork shank is one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. Ambience: nice, authentic, clean, you can smell the food cooking - 5 star Greeting: we were told by the hostess that we can not have a table to eat until another 2 and a half hours. I counted at least 17 empty tables. We asked to sit at the bar and wait, and if we could eat there. The hostess told us we could drink at the bar but there was no eating in the area. Well. There are empty tables in the bar area and as we sat down, a man at the bar received a huge dinner plate. We inquired with the bar tender and discovered that we can indeed eat in this area. We received menus and were able to order - 1 Star. Staff/ Service: once the staff allowed us to eat, the staff was apologetic. Our waiter told us that the hostess "forgets this is a restaurant." Service was prompt thereafter. Food came out very quickly and our salsa guy, Martin was very nice and engaging. Lorenzo, the bar tender, took great care of us - Thanks Lorenzo! Food: very tasty, interesting flavors. Well cooked. Came out hot and the portions were satisfying but not gaudy like in the US. I don't believe that's Caesar Salad dressing on the Caesar salad ... it isn't really reminiscent of Caesar salad dressing, taste wise. We didn't finish those, unfortunately. Our dinner was really good overall. The entire experience was only dampened by the hostess not wanting to give us a table, which weighs heavily on this review. Bar staff did try to appease and apologize but of course were left wondering why she did not want to seat us when they clearly had several available tables. Without that part of the experience I would give FIVE STARS. But due to that, I had to deduct a few stars from my review. Upon return to mazatlan, we'd definitely eat and drink here again. I recommend this place to visitors and encourage to ask about bar seating if the hostess doesn't want to seat you in the dining room. This is the type of restaurant you hope to find when traveling! I would recommend going at night. It's a gorgeous little garden that looks just magical with the lighting. I highly recommend the tuna steak. Vicky with the table-side salsa was lovely too. They made a great recommendation on tequila. We now know that Agatha añejo is a phenomenally sippable, caramel-vanilla tequila and can't wait to visit the distillery. Everyone we met there was so warm, delightful, and friendly. We met someone on a boat tour later that day who had a similarly excellent experience. Many of the staff have been there 10+ years and it's easy to see why. They love what they do and they do it well. We can't wait to return. read more

After coming here for years, tonight was muy mal. Major dissapointment. When we arrived our drink order was taken in about 15 minutes. The restaurant was not extremely busy. we ordered a round of tamarind margaritas and they were good. Served with a large straw puckered on the outside with candied tamarind, it was a decent Margarita. HOWEVER, after waiting 1.25 hours for our dinner to come out (we tried to order the fundito but after waiting 15 minutes the server came back and told us they were out of the cheese! How can a restaurant in Mexico that serves fondue on the menu be out of cheese? That's like being out of butter. Ok so no appetizer. After 1 hour and 20 minutes we were about ready to eat the server! She said there was another table before us and we said no way. I had our ride coming at 9pm which was 2 hrs from arrival and now we are at 1 hour and 30 minutes and finally the food arrives, nearly cold on top of the long wait. I had the Mexican Plate and what a big dissapointment. Cold enchilada with mole sauce, cold steak which wasn't seasoned nearly as well, a Chile Relleno that was crisp like an apple and the cheese inside was not melted, tasteless. Same experience with another Mexican Plate at the table. We were pretty upset and when the bill was delivered she asked how it was. We told her exactly how it was and she just said ok and that was that. Since our ride was outside waiting we didn't have time to ask for the manager. Something was very wrong tonight. I asked her in Spanish if there were problems in the kitchen tonight and she would not answer me. The guitar player was great again (he has been there for years). He plays a Godin nylon string electric classical guitar that sounds great. We were very dissapointed with the service and food tonight. Same price as Panchos dinner for 5 last night but far below the quality and service we have experienced here in the past. The food is awesome and the place is beautiful. We order fish and shrimp in cilantro, salmon with mango sauce and the Chamorro. The margaritas are great as well: had Watermelon, Guava and Tamarind and they were delicious. Everything was fantastic, our waiter, Carlos, did a great job recommending what to eat. Definitely our favorite restaurant in Mazatlán. Absolutely beautiful ambiance. Situated in an outside courtyard. Trees and greenery winding all around you. Live Sax musician setting the tone. The salsa is prepared tableside to your specifications. They have a wonderful wine list but our server wasn't the most knowledgeable about it. No matter, I'll save you the worry and have you order the Margarita Tamarindo. Made with the tamarind fruit, its incredibly delicious. Tangy, tart, yet sweet. It's a flavor all to its own. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller. They came out bubbly hot and were tasty as hell. I ordered the shrimp 4/4 with the coconut shrimp and tequila cream shrimp. Fanfuckingtastic. Coconut shrimp was the best I've ever had. Big Red ordered the Mexican plate which had Chile relleno stuffed with cheese, carne asada, chicken enchilada with mole, quesadilla, rice, beans, and guacamole. Truly spectacular. Mole was potent and kicky and the asada was tender and flavorful. The real kicker was the dessert. Homemade Key Lime Pie. It was tart and sweet with a buttery crust. Just delicious. I can't recommend this place enough. Probably should leave the young kids at home. It's a nice romantic date place but it's also a great place for a group to relax and enjoy each other's company in a beautiful setting. read more

I started with Tortilla soup , very good and my wife had a Topolo salad, very nice house salad. For mains, I ordered the Plato Maz: Chili relleno, tequila shrimp, grilled veggies and rice, Excellent.
