Best sushi we've had in Mexico, authentic, flavorful. It should be nice if they had more vegetarian options like sonomono or cucumbers or a simple Asian salad, but we enjoyed the asparagus appetizer. A disappointing dinning experience - The food was above average, although the cocktails were too sweet. The value was good. The environment was energetic, but too many people passed by the table to watch the "fire show" once. It was a bit strange. Overall, a good experience. However, the waiter, double charged the tip. A 15% was included in the bill, and he charged another 20% without my agreement. This should be a common practice in this restaurant by looking at other reviews. so be aware this trick. Amazing place. If at all possible sit on the deck at sunset. Gorgeous view. Now start with a house cocktail. My wife and I tried 2 of the infusion globes and both were great. Presentation was very cool and the drinks were amazing. We ate a total of 8 different small plates. Hamachi tartar? Fabulous. Grilled edamame? Great. Fried octopus was terrific as well. Slightly chewy, but flavorful. Kurobota pork skewars from the hibachi were just as I hoped. Crispy, fatty, and tender. And a huge portion. The salmon "tacos" do not miss!. Grilled and raw salmon in a fried nori shell. Amazing. I'd skip the veggie tempura, ok, but suffered from a tough batter. All the presentations were fantastic, the celebration dessert they served us was so much fun. The service? Just ask for Alfredo and Juan Pablo, they were terrific. I went to Tora on its second day of business. The food was out of this world. They had dishes that I couldn't even fathom served on slabs of rock. They had a loungelike feel with high end decor. Tora at the core is a Japanese izakaya restaurant. I had the spicy filet (beef) and they gave me an extra habanero based sauce that seemed more derived from the local tastes. Combined with the steak, it made for one of the most succulent spicy meals I've had in my life. The desert menu itself is expansive enough to qualify the restaurant as a classy dessert joint. Dude. Talk about great service and ambiance. This place is POPPIN. Mau was our server tonight and he was on top of his game. The drink presentation was my favorite feature. Make sure all of the basic females at the table have their boomerang ready to video! We mostly had sushi and my fav was the spicy tuna roll. FIRE. Superb food, service and atmosphere. Tora stands out in a sea of Cancun chain restaurants. We tried a few cocktails, appetizers (including the Wagyu tataki, Tuna and Salmon sashimi, and Spicy Crab Meat Gyoza), and dessert. All were fantastic. The restaurant is right on the water with a unique almost stadium style outdoor seating area where every table has a view. Highly recommend Tora. read more

I was very excited to visit this spot, but there was a huge event happening the night we reserved a table and the entire restaurant was filled with loud people who I was very bummed to be surrounded by. We waited and waited for service and menus ... and although I felt bad for the servers because they had a 200+ person event - we only ended up with sake and shrimp tempura before we had to leave. There was a DJ that was blaring terrible music. It was supposed to be a romantic birthday for my boyfriend and turned into a nightmare. Our server (swiped a bottle from another table or I presume charged it to the big party) & charged the bottle on our tab in the tip line. So tempura was 420 and somehow he ended up with a 880 peso tip ? We tried to complain the management, but it was too busy and hectic we chose to leave after trying to discuss what happened. I meant to review this place a few months ago while on vacation in Cancun. I admit that I had no idea sushi could be so delicious in Mexico!! Now warning, although this place is swanky, romantic and right on the water, it's seems to be a popular party place, so be prepared for the noise. (there was a group of young adults who decided to take over, drinking, laughing, yelling and dancing around from area to another, but the employees kept an eye on them.) The food was exceptional, the service was great yet slow because it was a busy night. The only reason I won't give them 5 stars is because of the way they allowed their guest to take over the restaurant, and because when they took our check, they didn't return our change which would have been a 45% tip, we had to ask for our change back- which took 15 minutes because they couldn't find our bill. Again, I'll chalk it up to a busy night, I'd definitely return to this restaurant hoping to give it 5 stars next time around. read more

This place was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! It was five stars from the ambience, service to the food. We were celebrating our anniversary and they pulled out all the stops to ensure it was a special night. At most places you would expect maybe a rose or dessert that says "Happy Anniversary" but not this place, they really went the extra mile. At around 10:00pm there was a fireworks show complete with sparklers for every guest, music and dancing from the whole staff. Now to the service, I could tell everyone enjoyed working there and that energy and enthusiasm was passed onto the guest. We were never left wanting and were constantly checked up on by smiling and courteous waiters, bus boys and managers. Now to the food... This was honestly one of the best meals I have ever had and to be more accurate, it was more an experience than just a meal. The food is all very well priced. The menu can seem daunting but listen to your waiters recommendations. We got the salmon sashimi which was fresh and two rolls, both amazing. My rib eye melted in my mouth and my wife's sea bass was cooked perfectly. We were recommended to get a hot rice pot as a side and opted for the Japanese mushrooms with black truffles... they seriously had someone come by and shave black truffles into the pot. It was one of the best things either of us has ever eaten. We got the green tea cheesecake for dessert which was amazing as well. For our anniversary we were given a complimentary appetizer, champagne toast and were congratulated by every staff member who passed by. Overall, one of the nicest, best restaurants we have ever enjoyed... top 3 meals I have ever had. We definitely got way more than our money's worth. Third and last visit to this restaurant. Made a reservation far in advance and asked for an outdoor table to remain as Covid safe as possible. Instead we got a table about as far from the outside as possible. We were in the bar (surrounded by a slew of unmasked patrons), next to the bathroom and the hookah girl who kept running a vacuum to add to general cacophony of the place. We were told we'd get moved to another table but by the second course, we were "unmoved". We were hoping to be outside for the show but the show started and we were still inside and weren't even notified the show was starting until well after the show had gotten underway. Menus were not contact-less. Most staff wore masks but some females had face shields only. We had been trying to celebrate a graduation but were so disappointed in the evening we asked to cancel the remaining sushi roll. The waiter informed me we had already received it so it could not be canceled. Of course we had never received it. I spoke with the manager about it and asked him to find out why the waiter said we had already received the roll and to find out if the kitchen had actually ever made the roll. He returned later to say he had "taken care of it". I had thought he would apologize for the false accusation but he would not. When I pressed him to find out if kitchen had even made the roll, he repeated he would take care of it. I still don't know if he thinks we lied to avoid paying for a roll or if he knows the waiter accused us of eating a roll and trying to skip it on the bill. If he knows it was the waiter's error, somebody should have apologized for that. It never happened. The manager did eventually offer us a table outside and he also made a big deal out of not charging for the celebration dessert. I would have preferred to just pay for the dessert as that token gesture after such a horrible experience was more an insult than anything else. Bad management, bad training, bad service. If you make a mistake, own it. read more

I couldn't wait to get back home and write this review! We visited on 2/19 for dinner. As soon as you walk in the vibe at this place is amazing! Everybody get's treated like royalty here. Management makes their rounds to all the tables religiously to make sure everything is PERFECT and you get 2 waiters per table constantly catering to you. This isn't just a restaurant - this is an experience! Every single dish and cocktail was amazing. Best dinner I've had in Cancun. My waiter's name was Gerardo and he was the so sweet, efficient and knowledgable about every dish and ingredient on the menu - seriously impressive because there are a lot of Japanese ingredients and items! The Capitan came around introduced himself and made sure our experience was amazing his name was Juan. We loved the vibe and music so after dinner we decided to move over to the bar and just have cocktails. Gonzalo took care of us at the bar and his service was just as great. He was knowledgable on tequilas and recommend a few for us to have. He was such a genuine person too that just wanted us to have a great time at his bar. I cant rave enough about Gerardo and Gonzalo. I'll ask for their table when I'm back time and time again. I wish I could put this place in my pocket and bring it back to Dallas! Thank you Tora for such a great night out in Cancun. I am throughly happy with the whole experience here! When I walked in, I felt super underdressed but they seated us regardless. We sat outside which had a phenomenal view. We came at a perfect time. Sunset to the side of us was gorgeous. Selfies we took with the sunset view in the background was priceless. Presentation of each dish we had was gorgeous. The wine we wanted was not available so we took recommendations which were supposed to be in the same price range... but they weren't, we originally picked a $40 bottle, they suggested a $110, and we asked for something in the original range of $40. Ok then we wanted yellowtail and scallops. Both unavailable! I ordered salmon, which arrived very undercooked.. No flaking off the fork! So sent it back to cook more. The food was good, but not superior as expected for Then the show was supposed to be at 8, it was at 9. They offered to seat us near the show, we asked for a cocktail menu... and it never came.. so after show we paid and left... not coming back. read more

Be VERY careful when purchasing alcohol with your meal. We came to have a nice dinner on our last night out in Cancun and wanted to purchase sake to go with the sushi. On their menu they have the option for a glass of sake for 140, which is what we asked for. Either the restaurant manager or woman who was not a waiter came over and showed us a bottle of sake asking if it was alright. We said sure assuming it was the same bottle we requested. Without informing us about the price difference, she ended up charging us for a sake that was over double the amount that we were asking for. We were never told it was a different bottle, nor told of any price difference. If there had been clear communication, we would've gotten a different drink instead. However, we got no clear communication about the price difference and wound up being charged the doubled amount. When brought up with management, they're refused to honor the price we asked for. read more

Ruined our anniversary dinner. Didn't try to help us with certain accommodations. Yet we saw another table who asked for what we asked for and they did it for them. The waiters just stand around and talk about their customers, I felt judged as soon as I stepped foot in here. They're all lost, one waiter who was bringing out our food circled around us with our plate in his hand for like 5 minutes until another waiter had to tell him it was for us. I got my plate first and my boyfriend got his maybe 15-20 mins apart. The table next to us got their food first even though they arrived 20-30 mins after us. We herd the manager making fun of the employees with a guy sitting next to us. All around very bad experience . They cater to a certain group of people and if you don't fit that criteria you will get treated like shit. And tip is included in bill even thought you get shitty service. read more
